Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
The merman shakes his head and calls over the merfolk sorcerer. They converse quietly and then the youthful sorcerer raises his head to look at Aquarius.
"I am not capable of this feat, but there are others in our shoal who could perhaps. But why do you ask; we are not disposed to assist humans even you."

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
With a sly smile, Aquarius responds "What I have in mind may persuade you."
"The Captain is a greedy man, after saving his life he demanded that we kill your kind, obviously none took heed. What I suggest is that we punish him, force him to track down he who first took the Coral Seeds and bring him to you. If nothing else, the Captain will curse his greed for the rest of his days."
"But, there is the possibility he will succeed, therefore the original thief would be brought to you for punishment."Open the lid and snatch a homebrewed treat from Cookie's Jar

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Clinging high up on the mast, working with the sailors to save it from the flames, Sel was suddenly struck by the odd sensation that a ship going back home might be hard to come by.
"Wierd."

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Caladeran walked over to watch the Captain, the anger at this situation plain on his elven features. In a voice pitched for the captain's ears, he spoke in a low, even voice. "I am ... disappointed at your lack of transparency. We shall need to discuss this further once we have dealt with the situation at hand."

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Unaware of the drama above desck, Ivor whistles a jaunty tune as he helps himself to the glowing sword and javelin.
He then returns to the top deck, only half-remembering why he went below to begin with.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
SpoilerI'm seriously enjoying the fact that everyone in the party is doing something different here!
The merman smirks, the first time you have seen one smile, but this looks distinctly malicious. "I could find a wizard to do this. If so I will return, but do not think to cross us." The merfolk leave with no more notice, vanishing into the deeps.
The captain baulks at Cal's threat, stunned as he was from Aquarius's blow moments before. He is so cowed that he doesn't even comment when Ivor strolls past carrying two of his most prized trading items.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
"Ah, captain," Ivor says to the glowering seaman, "I cannot help but notice the value of these items within my most royal grasp."
He waits for the captain to decipher his colloquial and heavily-accented voice.
"Today you looked me-Prince Ivor Khal-Khan, most High Prince of the Blood Steppe-in the eye and lied to me. Normally this would be sufficient for me to cut out your tongue, and at least three of your fingers to pay for this most fell crime."

"However. You may instead offer me one of these small trinkets instead, and I shall even have my retinue..."
He points to his traveling companions.
"...cease randomly hitting you. Furthermore, I may be able to convince your crew to not string you up for endangering them with your mindless greed."
He pauses and lets all his words register.
"What is your decision?"Last edited by redzimmer; 2013-02-25 at 07:47 PM.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
After helping the sailors save the rigging and some of the sail, Sel refuses to try running down the gently swaying mast. Instead she demands a rope to descend, even though her magical boots would likely save her from any significant sprains.
She is just sufferring from an irrational fear of tumbling overboard on her way down. After carefully lowering herself to the surface of the deck.
She nods companionably as Cal.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Satisfied for the time being, Ivor addresses his companions.
"It seems our heroic efforts to save the ship not without reward. Pray dear friends, how feel you in regards to the splitting of said dividends?"
He holds up the sword and javelin to remind them of what he is babbling about.
"I say, is it possible for us to perhaps share quarters for the remainder of the voyage?"
At their looks of confusion or suspicion he continues:
"I am not a gambling man"-a complete lie-"but I would not be surprised to see an attempt at reprisal from this lot."Plot Hooks. Campaigns and Encounters - an aid for DMs in a hurry. A resource for all to enjoy! (Now archived)

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Caladeran nodded curtly, glancing at the rest of the crew. "I concur. This lot was willing to bet their lives on a bunch of trinkets. I'm sure they would be willing to throw ours away. Perhaps Selena can insinuate herself into the our 'hosts' minds?"
SpoilerNot sure this is within Sel's specs, but if she could plant a suggestion or two (like scream bloody murder when one of the pirates is planning ... well, bloody murder).Life is ... life. As always bot/cut as necessary.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
"I could make some of them more receptive to our viewpoints for a few hours, but wholesale domination of their minds is a power I'm not sure I will ever master. There are both technical and moral hurdles to the uses I have seen it put to."
"If some segment of the crew is not thankful we intervened and transferred their captain's pearls without costing them their lives, it remains a great deal farther to attack us. Perhaps one of you could spread the word that such foolhardiness would be fatal at ANY hour."Last edited by sdream; 2013-03-04 at 08:53 AM.

Seeing the wisdom of this, Ivor goes to the crew he had managed to rally during the fracas.
If talking sense into them would not work, good old fashioned threats would suffice.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
The six men who had responded to Ivor's call during the battle are impressed by both Ivor's and Seal's contributions, and listen to him intently. They seem more inclined to celebrate the group as heroes then attack them.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Ivor explains the merits of siding with them should the rest of the crew seek retribution.
For starters, Ivor illustrates the great power and ability that he and his companions have. And then reminds the crewmen that the merfolk are not killing them as a results of his companions' intervention.

Sel rolled over in her hammock.
"What are the odds the boat will sink if I just stay in here?"
But she put a foot down anyway and rubbed her eyes.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Laying on his hammock, Caladeran had entered the trance his people often did to pass the time from dusk till dawn. However, at sunrise, cries from the deck drew his attention. Rising, he made sure his chain was ready and stepped forward to see what had happened.

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Seal, Cal and Ivor head out onto the deck to find men scrambling away from one side, and as they approach the rails it is possible to see merfolk swimming cautiously beside the boat. One is recognizable as the man who spoke with Aquarius before.

Hearing the yells, Aquarius gets out of bed, puts on his armour and sword and goes onto the deck. Seeing the others by the rails he goes there and calls out to the merman he spoke to before. "Do you know what's going on?"

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
The sailors cringe at Seal's words but this time the merfolk show no sign of hostility.
A merman with a long flowing silver beard answers Aquairus's question. "We have come to bind this human as you suggested: but we will require something of you. We do not punish beyond what is necessary and we do not work for humans either way."
"If you require that he is bound to search for the thieves who stole our treasures, we will bind you also to perform a quest for us, for just as you cannot journey far beneath the sea, we rarely go deep into the grasslands."

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
Thinking about the situation, Aquarius instinctively goes to draw his hood, but had left his cloak down below. "Your conditions make sense, but buissines of import brought me to your waters, as such at this moment in time I am unable to accept the binding, if it were required. Once my buissines is concluded I would be more than willing to perform the task you require of me."

Re: 3.5 Political Adventure [IC]
"An unfortunate habit, I'm afraid. Look, if my buissiness was not as important, I would accept it without hesitation. So, the question becomes "Can your task be delayed?", because mine cannot. Once my task is finished and my companions are on their way, which will only take the next couple of days, then I can accept the binding and begin your task."
