Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Thanks!
Again, I really like the shapes here. From the palette, I'm assuming there's more coloring to come, which I look forward to.

Finished! I quite like this even if it's not an optimal technique set.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
I've got two requests for ya Thanquol.
The second request I have is anything you want to draw from this incomplete novel of mine (Which my first request is actually from in a far later as-of-yet-unwritten part) or this short story of mine.
Just take a quick look-see through 'em both and see what you like enough to draw, as I'd love to find out what you like enough about them to put to paper. I requested this to Patsy as well, but I think the request is general enough that the two of you would come up with vastly different pictures from it.
The second request is a pic based on my campaign setting Dungeonworld. Like the first one, you can draw anything you want as long as it's based on the stuff I've outlined for the Dungeonworld setting, and if you have any questions you need for the pic, I'll answer them.
I hope that the subject matter isn't too lengthy to sift through and I hope the requests aren't too vague. If they aren't, the I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Hello!
Unfortunately I don't have time on my schedule to read novels or D&D campaign settings; brainpower is kind of at a premium. "Read a thing, and then do fanart" is also not a format that particularly appeals to me.
However, if you pull out a specific request and explain it in detail (More detail than less, vague requests are bad, 'surprise me' traditionally gets an instant trollface response) I'll be happy to give it a shot!
Day 671: Autumn Shining
Sometimes my brain not working is a good thing. I did something completely random for colouring this piece and it actually turned out to be amazingly interesting and I learned a huge amount while not intending to.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Okay then. I have several requests based on those things I previously mentioned.
The first is based on Dungeonworld, trying to create an image that sums up the setting.
SpoilerThere's a D&D party fighting against a group of hobgoblins (One of whom is riding a Bulette) in a wide brick-lined corridor, with a bunch of traps (Come magical, some mechanical) going off in the background. The party includes a Thri-Keen dressed like a hobo, wielding a bindlestick/spear combo, but with enough religious trappings to indicate that he is a paladin (Not the least of which is his spear glowing with holy light), and he is dodging amongst the traps.
Other party members include an attractive but stocky and muscular anglerfish-woman decking a hobgoblin in the jaw, a shifty; nervous changeling factotum in a fedora and cloak holding out a series of sigils that look like they were hastily picked out; which are currently spewing chaotic bursts of magic towards the Hobgoblins, a kobold in goggles and overalls throwing several bombs (Which appear to be cryonic in effect) at the Hobgoblins, and an elven ranger shoving a ludicrously hot chilli pepper down a hobgoblin's throat while his boar animal companion attacks the bulette.
The hobgoblisn are all dressed in Nazi-ish (With a stylized drill in the place of a swastika) and they're also wielding clockwork weapons that look like a cross between a chainsaw and a drill.
The second one's based on that novel I mentioned, and it's also to establish the mood of the piece:
SpoilerA large black man in cowboy-ish garb fighting against several javelinas and saguaro cacti hybridized with airplane parts during a street fair. Specifically, the 4th Avenue Street Fair, which I'll provide a photo reference for here.
People are panicking and running away from the fight, except for one. Said one's a woman with a sleek, toned; fairly muscular body, wearing a striped midriff-exposing shirt, jeans, and a red bandanna covering all of her blonde hair except for a tuft poking out above her eye. She's also wielding two cutlasses and has got this mad look in her eye which says she is going to kick some monster ass today.
Also in the background is a grey alien in a stereotypical red and gold robe-and-wizard-hat, ducking out of the way with a burger in his one hand, and another desperately fumbling for his wand.
The black cowboy looks calm and cool in the moment, and appears to be drawing two revolvers from his belt. The saguaro/javelina-and-plane-part monsters seem to be held together in a functional yet torturous arrangement, held together by a sickly purple-brown slime that brings to mind the "demons" from Princess Mononoke.
And the third is from this story, which is the shortest of the three, and one I still am hoping somebody would at least post a critique on, even if it is "It sucks and I hate it."
SpoilerA man and a sexy cockroach-woman at a table in a restaurant. The man is is young, and looks like he'd be pleasant company, but he also has a tired look to his face, with sunken cheeks and bags around his eyes, though he looks attractive in a woobie-ish sort of way.
The roach-woman looks like whatever you'd imagine a sexy roach woman to look like, and shes' wearing a series of chains and a pair of gloves; both made out of discarded soda cans, and a burnt fedora which she somehow manages to make look stylish. Both of them look somewhat nervous.
The restaurant's walls and floor are covered in resin-adhesived old newspapers, and most of the tables, chairs and other furniture appear to be made out of whatever trash and rubble might work its way into a storm drain. There's a movie playing in the background (Mystery Men to be precise) from a projector jury-rigged to a VHS player.
There are other diners in the background, various many-origined monsters that one would expect to find in a weird sewer community. I describe some of them in the story, but if you don't want to read the whole damned story, just make up some weird sewer mutants you think'd look cool. Or steal from Ninja Turtles or B-movies, as the story is sort of inspired by that
There's no hurry to get these done Thanquol, and they're pretty elaborate requests, so take your time as you will. I hope you like 'em!

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Crusader Kings? I really wanted that game, but figured since I already have more Paradox stuff than I could play in my natural lifetime, I probably should hold off. Would you recommend it though?
And yes Wyverns are weird; I thought his legs were his arms at first, before reading that he wasn't supposed to have any. Now I can't unsee the horrible hybrid my mind creates when I look at it.
EDIT: Also, my first post in your thread despite a long time lurking.
EDIT 2: A question I've been meaning to ask for a while, where do you get those quotes from in your sig?Last edited by Madcrafter; 2013-03-18 at 11:15 PM.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Crusader Kings 2 is my favourite game of all time, bar nothing.

The context of the current one boils down to, "Your own truth is so beautiful and articulating it is so joyous that it does not matter if any but you understand it".

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
I see, maybe I'll pick it up on steam next time it shows up on sale. It can replace my long suffering install of EUIII (which hasn't been touched in over a year).
And I've seen a statistic of the amount of quotes mis-attributed to Emerson, it was really large. I know I have a bookmark with a quote not actually his, and I've seen a few others around. If you're pulling directly from essays though, you'd be immune.
Alright I've done enough derailing; you can get back to your dragons now.Last edited by Madcrafter; 2013-03-19 at 01:13 AM.
