Ishmael once more slips the mans grasp.

Not wanting to risk tumbling on a boat with lots of people in it, he uses his cloak to port next to the powder and he kicks it overboard.

"Lets see you this time, smart guy..." he says as he turns invisible.

Kicking it like that leaves a cloud of powder. When you go invisible, your outline will be visible in the powder for (d6)[3] rounds before it dissipates.

The guards each shoot you with their pistols, but miss.

If I hide rather than go invisible... as in normal hide using hide in plain sight, would my outline still be showing?

well, all that your outline showing means is that they know which square you're in, though the full miss chance from invisibility still applies...

of course, hiding in plain sight would be very useful, as then they would have to deal with your +20 to hide from invisibility on top of your god-like base modifier.

Ishmael decides to make it harder on them.

He uses the shadows around the boat, cast by the passengers and the guards and hides as only he can hide. Then he makes a few steps to make sure anyone targetting his previous position would fail.

Everyone stand there stunned trying to figure out where you went. The next round, the guards shrug and have the prisoners pole back to shore. The smart one looks around suspiciously, not trusting your apparent disappearance.

Ishmael smiles and keeps focusing on the intelligent guard until he has managed to perceive every detail in the man's body, movements and vitality.

Strangely enough, none of them grow god-like powers of perception in two rounds and your studies are undisturbed.

Wondering if its appropriate to act now Ishmael looks around the boat to see if there is any kind of manifest that would have the names of the prisoners and guards on duty.

As logical as it is to assume such documents exist, it is equally logical to assume that such papers aren't left lying around open where stray splashes or random bumps might damage them in the middle of combat. You do not see such lying around.

Ishmael will move along the boat the boat looking to see if he can find such document. If not he will move to a spot where he is behind the smart guard and wait some more.

You eventually discern that the guard who isn't overly intelligent has a small bulge on the inside of his jacket that likely is where the documentation is being kept.

Ishmael will approach carefully and try to remove the document from the man. He moves carefully and hopes the fact that he... disappeared has calmed them enough to not take full precautions.

Ishmael tries to have a quick peek at the documents without being seen. He tries to figure out who the 2 guards are and who the prisoners plus how many... years, days or penalties they have and for what reason.

I'm having a problem generating all the info you'll need for the infodump all at once, but you succeed at your endeavor here. Mind if I just say "you know it all" and bring up any specific bits you want to know?

You look over the list undetected, reading through it. It lists each of the prisoners by name, when their shift starts, how long their shift is, and what they are convicted of. It also lists the names of the two guards on duty this shift, as well as their ranks. Both are ordinary guardsmen.

Apologies... I know I often transfer my own curiosity to Ishmael but it fits his nosy profile :D

Also, the basic thing I wanted to know was if one of the convicts is a truly serious/horrendous criminal... or accused of it/convicted of it. This is because the "Cat" told me one of the souls of the men here is truly dark... which points to heinous crimes.

Ishmael has the idea it might the guard that is the truly evil guy and hence he would see that most if not all prisoners were simple criminals and that is why he wanted to check it.

So is any of the other guys a rapist/murdered/assassin or are they smalltime/medium type guys?

All the convicts on your list are convicted of petty and/or non-violent crimes...

Except, of course, Perry DiCarto whom you impersonated. He's convicted of aiding the enemy and engaging in diabolic pacts within city limits.

His suspision mostly confirmed Ishmael returns to looking at the smart guard and preparing. He slowly draws his spiked chain and puts the drow poison on it. Even if the man was tough, the more he could weaken him the better.

A thought comes to him that perhaps this man is actually here because the Guard thought Perry could be a serious danger and hence they put someone really good to guard him. The fact though that the Cat said the truly horrid guy was here, his attitude and overall style points in his direction.

When done 'observing' the guard Ishmael moves behind him.

Your godlike powers of stealth are still not matched by the sub-deific powers of perception present on this boat. You study and approach your target unseen.

Ishmael unfurls the black hole preparing to stuff the man inside after he knocks him out.

Then, when ready he activates his bracers and swings 3 times quickly trying to strike all points that would knock the man out but not kill him...

You fire off a series of three rapid strikes that subdue him quickly. The other guard is frozen in shock, his mind needing a little time to process what's happening.

Ishmael moves to place the unconsious man inside the portable hole and then looks seriously at the others.

"This was Nemesis. Crime can wear a guardsman face but a dark soul and dark deeds shine like a beacon of evil..." he says cryptically before going invisible once more.

If he has time he will throw one of his heavier outfits in the water to make it seem as if he jumped inside.

You disappear from sight just as the other guard fires a shot, which goes wide of the unseen target.

Regardless if they believe he trick or not, Ishmael slowly moves away from his previous position just to be sure noone finds him by accident.

He then attempts to hide to ensure that even with invisibility detecting magic he will stay hidden.

Your trick does indeed fool the guard and, after firing a few shots after your clothes, has the prisoners continue rowing to shore. "I have to report this." he says.
