Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
Alacyr sighs as he starts slogging his way through the mud, drawing his claymore along the way. "Time to earn my pay." He mumbled as he cursed the horrid terrain.

OOC
Spoiler
Arillius: I'm fine with the move to H08. It makes since that he'd want an elevated platform. You never rolled James' init, so I rolled it in OOC. With a 6, the Gobbers will go before you. Not much will change. Gobber 09 will drop, and you miss 07, they'll just get to move first.
MastaBakah: Since I have your Init, feel free to delete those two posts if you want to cleanup the IC thread.
Init Order:
Spoiler- High Rollers
- Alacyr (posted already)
- Caine (pending post)
- NPCs
- Gobbers
- Party (Low Rollers, then it repeats to High Rollers)
- Cag
- James
- Alacyr
- Caine
- NPCs
- Gobbers
- Party
- NPCs
- Gobbers
- Party
Once Caine has acted, I'll post the NPC and Gobber Actions, then it's the full parties turn.

A new voice springs from the third caravan and a heavily armoured man leaps out. "Time to earn ze dosh!" He rushes at the gobbers with a rather pathetic looking melee weapon.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
Synopsis of first round:
The gobbers don’t catch you off guard. Most of you are able to dodge the volley of darts while three of the drivers and Caggedar fall to the ground asleep. As soon as the darts go flying, the 12 gobbers make a bee-line to try and steal the crates from the wagons. Going for the easy loot, they start by cutting the chests from the sides of the wagons free.
Two gobbers are caught up by Andrei and attack.
SpoilerGobbers 03 and 05 on Andrei (+2 for flanking)
03 atk (1d20+2)[7]
03 dmg [roll]1d3[roll]
05 atk (1d20+2)[11]
05 dmg [roll]1d3[roll]
Alacyr slogs through the muck and engages the lead gobbers (01 and 11)
SpoilerGobbers 01 and 11 on Alacyr
01 atk (1d20+2)[3]
01 dmg [roll]1d3[roll]
11 atk (1d20+2)[17]
11 dmg [roll]1d3[roll]
Caine quickly pulls his reliable pistol shaped contraption and losses two balls of magical energy, unerringly felling the nearest gobber (02-dead).
Gunner Waddock moves atop the crates in his wagon, as a gobber comes into sight, his pistol lets out a loud boom. His round finds its target, hitting him squarely in the left arm (01 hit for 3hp)
One gobber drinks from a vial and his muscles then swell in size as it runs to the cart. Viggo, the lead driver; jumps from his wagon with his sword drawn and swings just a hair too wide (miss on 12).
The other standing driver tries to club the gobbers that have started to raid his cart, but the short thieves are too quick and little for him (miss on 08).
James let fly two arrows in rapid succession. The first arrow hitting its target right in the face; instantly dropping it to the ground dead (09-dead). The second flying just overhead of its mark as the scared creature dives under the wagon(07-under wagon).

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
James
Grimshaw here's the commotion and realizes there are other enemies abound. However, the one beneath the wagon he was on was still a threat. A threat he wasn't about to ignore. James attempts to leap down from wagon. The moment he's on the ground he spins around, dropping to a knee as he does, and lines up the gobber for another shot.
If gobber is there...
SpoilerThe arrow is released to fast to leave any openings in the archers defenses. The longbow, normally with one end pointing up and the other pointing down, is held at an angle to allow him to shoot while on his knees.
Attack (1d20+8)[21] (8 = 4 wis+ 1 feat + 2 bab + 1 weapon + 1 point blank - 1 deadly aim)
Damage (1d8+7)[14]
If gobber is not there...
SpoilerPerception (1d20+10)[11]
James looks for the gobber. If he finds the sneaky little bastard he'll line up the shot and take it. (See if gobber is there for attack and damage roll)
Edit: A nat 1... geez, that's painful. Hope I don't need James to look for the thing.Last edited by Arillius; 2012-06-26 at 10:28 PM.

Map:
Spoiler
James lands on the ground, sights the bandit as he tries to cut the pack horses free. Through the spokes of the wheel, James lets an arrow loose that knocks him to the ground.
On the forth cart, the driver is able to land one light blow as they run off with a large chest. Unwilling to abandon his wagon he looks around to make sure no more are comming.
Waddock reloads his pistol. At the same time the fallen gobber (01) tries to scramble and get away, Viggo acts quickly, stabing him as he crawls. Then he swings up on the lead gobber (12), again missing the quick bandit.
With his protection dead and their distraction going on long enough, the little alchemist pops another vial into his mouth and with an unnatural swiftness, disappears running into the fog yelling.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
Waddock barks orders, This friggin fog... I can't see s***. Viggo, check on the others and get me a new damn horse. We need to get out of here fast. Then calling to the party of escorts. Keep ready, the little bastards could just be regrouping. With his pistol ready, he begins to asses his losses.
The second driver is slapped awake by Viggo (lead driver). Wake up you blasted fool. There's work to be done. We need to move the horses and repack. Help me get the others.
As Caine collects the bodies, he comes across Caggedar, laying on his side, unconscious, and with a dart in his arm.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
As Caine finishes moving Caggedar, he starts to wake up.
The gobbers are all wearing a foul smelling poncho over their tattered rags. They were wielding daggers made of bone.
While checking the area, a large hollowed out tree stump is found (Grid U11). The core of the trunk is filled with a bubbling liquid while the outside has a hack of mechanical components attached to it.
K.Mechanika DC21:SpoilerThe device is a crude heating element that is boiling some kind of fog producing substance. There's no accumulator. The contraption is being powered by a modified cabolic crucible that consumes potions as a power source. It's tied into a hybrid socket. Both likely scavenged\stolen from someone else. From the socket, crude copper conduits feed into the bowl (hollowed tree trunk).
Craft Mechanika DC20 to disassemble
SpoilerComponents of worth (market value):
Hacked crucible, 5oz capacity: 450 crowns
Hybrid Socket: 450 crowns
Unidentified Potion, 2oz (remaining fuel from inside crucible)
Survival DC25:SpoilerThe gobbers have on an alchemically treated poncho the helps them hide like chameleons. Valuable to a 9th level caster who can typically use a few of them and craft them into a robe that will work for nongobbers.

Viggo checks the other drivers, but two can't be awoken Hey boss, Jeedem and the new guy are both out cold. We can't wake them.
Waddock replies, Damn those gobbers to hell. Viggo, you take the tail wagon. I'll take the lead. addressing the party, Don't suppose any of you know how to drive a wagon? You only need to keep in on the path and match pace. If theres no more trouble we should make Corvis well before nightfall.

James
James shakes his head slowly as he comes upon the small group gathering together. "Unfortunately, it was something I wasn't taught. I'll probably be better used keeping a watch out for the gobbers return anyway."
Even as he speaks, his eyes are scanning the fog for the shadowy forms of the ambushers. His tone is low, indicating that he is also listening closely.

Just be quick about it. As soon as that horse is lashed in, we'll be setting off.
Caine
SpoilerAfter emptying the contents of the crucible into vials, the contraption shuts down. To save time, you quickly hack the salvagable parts free.
Once the pack horse has been tied into the lead wagon, Waddock goes over to the wagon Caggedar is sitting in. I need you to drive this wagon until that lazy bastard wakes. It's easy enough. This one pulls left, this one to the right. Oh, and don't fall asleep on me. He jests, poking a little fun. The biggest one in the Wood, and a tiny little gobber knocked you out with a dart... haaa!
Lets get the hell out of this muckhole. I want to get into Corvis in time to unload this gear and get a few drinks.

Alacyr takes one last long look at the fog before he gets in the caravan. Tired of trudging along and confident that Waddock can navigate, he picks the cart with the most valuables lashed onto it and grabs hold of the back. While riding, he keeps his sword in one hand while he holds on with the other.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
As the orgun tries to drive the wagon, he slowly is drifting to the right of the path. He pulls on the reins to correct the animal, but his massive strength is to much for the horse. It's head jerks to the left... the wagon quickly follows and gets caught in the muck on the other side of the trail.
Good grief man... You're trying to direct the horse, not break its neck. Waddock gives a quick class on how to work with the animal as they work the wagon out and back onto the path. See.. like this.. you need to be gentle.. but still firm and in control.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
Waddock bellows out in laughter as the wagon, which was just freed from mud on the left side rolls over and into the right side. Haaa... Well, maybe that's the best way for you then. Apparently the caravan lifestyle is not for you. I'd say your in the right profesion, but you didn't really do that to well either. You're just having a hell of a day aren't you.
[After about two hours]
You clear the swampy morass of Widower’s Wood. The black twisted trees part, and the ever-present mist finally thins and clears. Ahead of you is Covis, City of Ghosts. A low wall surrounds an impossibly dense mass of stone structures. Marble spires, toppled with gold, burst through the fog and smoke at street level, reaching for the heavens. A tangle of bridges and arches ensnare everything in a stony grasp.
Gunner Wadock raises his voice to be heard over the creaking wagons. We'll be first off to see Father Dumas at the Church of Morrow. We have quite a few crates of his. He can tend our wounds and hopefully wake these two ingrates. Once we’re there I’ll mark your papers so you can collect your pay.
As you approach the city gates, there is sign posted that highlights the major criminial offenses and their punishments.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
Alacyr looked in awe as he entered the city, unable to help his reaction as he entered. Even though it has been some time since he took up the mercenary life, he still found such major cities powerful to behold. After a moment, he composes himself and keeps an eye on any loose gear in the wagons, just because they were in the city doesn't mean he could relax.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
After the caravan enters the city, you all pass through the Merchants 'Bourg. One of the more noticeable shop is an arcane emporium with the shop owners name on the sign "Garworth's". In the main window there is an aquarium with a a fat bullfrog in it, next to it is an old scribed sign that reads "WARNING, Here sits the last man to try and shoplift"
Rolling on, You cross the Black River on a massive stone bridge that looks to be hundreds of years old. The bridge is so wide and long that two towers pierce the river at each third of the river crossing. It connects over to the industrial 'bourg. An area full of industry with steam engines and river powered paddle wheels driving large factories.
This 'bourg is mostly a bridge weaved archipelago. After several small bridges you finally reach the Church of Marrow. Once you roll up, Waddock gets off his wagons and chocks the wheels. If you gents could give me a few minutes, I'll get Father Dumas so he can take a look at those two. They've been out for a while.
A few minutes later, Waddock returns with Father Dumas, as well as two of his fellow priests and an attractive young teen girl wearing a white dress. The girl hangs back while the priests start to help Waddocks other crew unload their crates. Waddock and Father Dumas continue a conversation that started inside the church. It got to be some kind of poison. Those damn swamp gobbers jumped us as we we're just about out of the Wood. They've been out for over two hours. You should of seen these boys make work of them though. Before I could even reload my pistol those little bastards were buggering off, diving into their mud holes.
Father Dumas takes a look at the two. Yes, it's likely poison. I've been hearing about this lately. Apparently they have some kind of aspiring alchemist brewing up something new there. Its been getting worse the last few months. They'll be fine. You said it's been about two hours. They'll likely wake within the hour.
The priest takes a look at the crew of mercs, then back to Waddock. So you say these guys can handle themselves pretty good?
They made easy enough work of those gobbers alright.
Gentlemen... What are you're plans while your in town? I may have a proposition to offer you.

Re: Iron Kingdoms (Pathfinder) [IC]
When they reach the church, Alacyr hops off the caravan to stretch his legs. It was nice to finally walk on solid ground. He paid little heed to the two men talking, preferring instead to let his gaze cross the city architecture. But when the priest addressed him and the others, Alacyr shrugged and responded, "When I'm done here, my plan is to grab a bath and a good meal, and then look for more work. If you think my sword can be put to use, then I can be of help."
Turning to Waddock he quickly asks, "Do you need me to help unload?"Last edited by Valdren; 2012-07-05 at 09:35 PM.
