Agreed; This people gives me a slight case of the creeps, a little darkness, a little peril, grief and sadness are expected for good stories, but sometimes it's just a little too much, even not cupcakes level, but... a little disturbing nonetheless.

I agree with the web of plotlines and trying hard. But, I still found myself cheering when they continued to find friendship no matter where they despaired. They saved Nightmare Whisper by being her friend, they broke Discords power over so many with Friendship and then walked them through the healing process that was needed.

Well, except for the Alternate World where Discord wins, that got dark very fast, still want to see the ending to that arc.

And yes, this one does get dark, but it still strives for Friendship is Magic.

I will say, having also played in a few games run over e-mail, that it can work to have 5-6 players and only 1-2 who really participate. It means the other 4 have to wade through 50 messages a day to stay current and my intuition is that makes people unhappy, but I know it worked fine in my group of RL friends. Since you see Braz in person, if she doesn't want to post daily and is happy being a background character (and won't complain later if she's not part of stuff) then we can probably make that work.

I dot recall ever seeing a WoD corebook for old world of darkness though, which means there was no real unified rule set. You could be a vampire werewolf though, which was something even the black spiral dancers loathed conceptually. they did a terrible job of marrying the fluff across games in retrospect. Too many "correct" and provable cosmologies.

The trouble with playing a game Of Mage though, is its not going to be the game you are used to, in rules or in feel. You'll have to specify oMage. On the bright side, I recall there being a general world of darkness thread in gaming that became a recruitment center. You could find people willing to play ok Mage, and even find someone else to be ST. So there is hope for you yet!

First off, the POV chapters as they lose to Discord are interesting, but Fluttershy's was slightly terrifying, especially when you can hear it happen. Rainbow Dash's made me feel for her, no matter what she did, she was going to make a choice that Discord would punish.

Then everything is fixed. Right?

No. Discord touched so many ponies, broke so many of them that they all have to see psychiatrists to work through what happened, Lesson Zero happened because Twilight was still hurt by Discord and tried to ignore it.

Applejack, dear Celestia, Applejack. She is summoned to Canterlot by both Luna and Celestia, and told to bring her sister along. She is offered a gaze into Truth, so that she may be able to use Honesty again. And the scenes she sees, alternate timelines, families, loss, hurt, love. All of them flashing through her mind as she shoves her hoof into the one thing that would stop her from looking. It takes Applebloom to stop her, and then things get better and worse for her from there.

That cruel personality of Fluttershy? It still exists, she can hear it, it wants to control, it wants power, and it really doesn't want Fluttershy to sing that lullaby. Fluttercruel also hates soap in her mouth.

I continued reading, enjoying everything, even the out of nowhere implication of Trixie, the confession of Rainbow Dash, and her near change into a Nightmare.

Pinkie's change was amazing and I can't seem to think of much more with it, mostly because of the things I learned later. Oh god.

And then I get to the one thing that might terrify me the most.

Nightmare Whisper, the Kindest Lie.

Reading that entire arc was a trial, not because it was bad, but because of just how justified Nightmare sounded, and was, because of how far Rainbow Dash and Rarity were willing to go, because of how broken nearly everyone was...

Because of how strong Princess Gaia, the Kindest Lie, had been in the end with Pinkie Pie.

The story continues, more visions, another plot where you just know who it is driving it but can't think of what's going on.

Celestia's origin, the implementation of the other Pony Worlds into this narrative and on just how twisted Discord truly is.

MIMIC! OH GOD MIMIC! YOU DID THE IMPOSSIBLE AS A MORTAL PONY AND IT WAS GLORIOUS

Things get weird again, a certain enemy enacts his plan and then the narrative changes again, to this.

MORE NIGHTMARE FUEL FOR SOME, TAKE CARE

Also, it doesn't help, that the CAD image is "coloured" by being assigned a material; i.e. properties of a material. My usual standard is something that basically is based on plastic, which I just made Citidel-paint-colours of, because it's the clearest for visibility for working on. What that means is, since I still really have no clue as to how to fiddle with the light sources, that the perception of distance is a bit screwy due to lack of shadows and such. Aaand, *skullpalm* it just occured to me I haven't yet remembered to use the full render mode for the Jalyrkieon images I've been posting (because it's ungainly for actually working on, unlike the preview render mode which that is), which actually does generate the shadows better, and would certainly have helped!

Have another stab at that another day; probably tomorrow, got to get a shift on, I want to put my next order in before I go away at the end of the month. Still, not much more to go, on the infantry anyway, as the Jalyrkieons are going to in squads for four (between firepower and blagging armour and endurance a bit, essentially four-Jalyrkeion squad in two fire-teams of two will equate to a humanid squard or seven or eight in 3-4 man fire teams. (I've already got two walking (one with a rocket launcher, huzzah!) and a slightly rearing one (nominally squad leader), so Heavy Weapons Dude is the last one to go.)

read the deharmonizing ones through Applejack, but I was fairly annoyed at the writing style of the entries (like writing the accent...Blech). The Pinkie one kept making fourth wall breaking shout outs, and I finally gave up. The Rarity one was pretty good, and Rainbow Dash wasn't terrible, but the others were awful IMO. Interesting idea, but it was done better with the psychosis series (where all of them are being warped by their elements).

I have to agree that the writing style could use some work, my main interest was the plot, the nature of becoming a Nightmare, the ability of choice, and the showing of Discord as someone who wants to have fun, but is definitely the most twisted thing there.

And the fact Fluttershy washed out Fluttercruels mouth with soap while sharing the same body was kind of hilarious.

Might have also been the fact that Discord's mind altering powers actually did have a lasting effect that needed to be taken care of by talking through it that got to me. It just never sat right that it was pretty much the Memory Spell fixed everything.

The Kindest of Lies is coming for us all. Mama will keep us safe and happy forever.

It gave me quite a hard time getting up this morning as it felt more like I was watching a movie.

which is rather cool as it was a rather awesome pony movie dream

but rather uncool as I had the hardest time waking up from it
