Re: Pirates of the Aether
SpoilerReflex Save: (1d20+4)[8]
The air amidst a group of the pirates bursts into flame, engulfing three of the pirates who panicked, breathe in a large lungful of fire and, larnyxes burnt, die unable to scream.
Melanie fires her shards at the pirates, one of them knocking one of the men in the head, collapsing him to the deck, but the other goes wide, spinning off until it fades away.
Bellamy swoops down, arms outstretched, and no one can tell if he did anything, or if the wind over the gangplanks will bowl them over.
Another pirate begins to melt as a spray of acid engulfs him. As his skin sloughs away, he screams, high pitched and more than slightly girly, as you realize he is a a girl. Or was anyway.
Musket fire continues to fire out across the deck from crew on both sides. a couple of people are hit, and collapse to the deck, but more rush up to take thier place.Last edited by Lentrax; 2013-02-07 at 02:59 AM.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Melanie winces at the scream from the pirate melted by Barty, Light crackling around her hands in unconscious response to her horrified disgust, then raises her hands again, her power rippling around the shard forming between her hands as she forms a solid shell of radiant power around the sliver of crystal. She holds up her right hand, light continuing to pulse out around her to protect those soon to face the pirates in combat, and her entire body explodes into something very similar to a nova of pure radiant power as she launches the single blazing shard across most of the length of the enemy ship, aimed directly at the now - thanks to Aimari - identified Captain.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
There is a small rumble from the deck of the Pirate vessel. Then a billowing blossom of fire that explodes outward, burning a lot of pirates on the deck.
There is a whooping "Yes!" from Erin.
Then a cry from the gun deck below.
"Move the powder! Get it back! Now! Move, ye dogs!"
Boom.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
It may be the explosion. It may be the diving for cover. Whatever the cause, Grym's shot goes horribly wide.
Like missed the barn wide.
Melanie on the other hand, remains calm in the face of impending doom. Her nova blast fires dead on into the chest of the Pirate Captain. The woman screams as a part of her chest armor is blown clean away. Clutching a hand to her bruising chest, the Captain turns sweeping her cutlass toward the Gambit and shouts more orders to her crew.
"She's wounded lads! Press on and claim our prize! To glory and riches!"
With a cry the Pirate all rush forward, more pour out of the lower decks, and you can hear the small bangs of pistol and musket shots below.
Suddenly more explosions rock the deck of the Gambit, and you realize the Pirates are throwing grenades!

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Aimari moves across the ship, intent on eliminating the enemy ship's captain to destroy the enemy leadership. On the way, she would rip as many holes in their front line as possible. Feeding more hate into the flames around her arms, Aimari feels the coalesced energy reach a sufficient level and she stretches her arms out, stepping forwards and hurling two balls of flame. Again, they collide perfectly and explode outwards into a surge of fire.

It was difficult to see for some, with all of the smoke and clashing distractions around, but a lithe man dropped down out of the rigging right behind the enemy captain... silent as a cat. The captain still stands upon the deck, urging her crew on.
Waving her cutlass around saved her life. A second sword sheared through her armor as her arm waved forward again.
With a snarl, she turned around and clashed sabers with the backstabber.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Melanie blinks, light pulsing around the crew as they leap forward, and the girl falls away into her radiant core. A girl cannot see this. Cannot do this. Not and remain herself. And the Light will not allow her to. So she becomes a vessel. A living channel for that which is so much greater than herself. And though she cannot hear it, and cannot tell herself, the actions of the man attacking the captain speak clearly of his intention - at least in the current moment.
Her hands spread apart, two shards of light-wreathed crystal blazing in her hands, and a whispered thought sends them hurtling across the deck of the enemy vessel, even as her Light swells again in protective defiance.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Gadashon staggered backwards, putting his hand to his wound and pulling away a bloody palm. As the color drained from his face, his expression drooped.
"Inigo... restrain her!"
The rogue spoke, desperation replacing the bravado in his voice as the coil of rope around his body came to life and shot forward like a snake, beginning to attempt to tie itself around the Captain.
Spoiler

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Seeing the arcs of light aimed at one enemy Bellamy quickly concludes that this is their leader. She seems to be fighting one of their own, no doubt an opportunist who wants to take command himself. Either way they were now his target. Turning Bruce he gained a little height and then reached into his haversack and concentrated for a moment on the item he needed. Let's see a captain command when she can't even hear her own orders he chuckles as he hurls a thunderstone at the pair.
After the bang he guides Bruce into a dive and attempts to grab the captain in his claws.
SpoilerRanged attack with thunderstone (1d20+8)[28] DC 15 Fortitude save or be deafened for 1 hour.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Crack.
Crystal shards fly out across the Aether again. Again, they find thier marks, and the enemy captain, already bruised from the first shard, cannot remain upright. The second shard knocks her off balance. The third knocks her clean off her feet.
She doesn't try to get back up. A rope slithers out and at its masters command, ties itself around the enemy captain as Bruce latches onto her with his claws.
Meanwhile, the guns continue to fire. Someone it appears, has decided to start firing chain shot, and it sweeps men from both sides off the decks of thier ships. Both ships begin to groan from the loss of so much of thier structures.
SpoilerThe enemy pirates are shaken. They have no captain anymore, and her morale boost is gone.

Re: Pirates of the Aether
Gadashon instinctively ducks as shards fly and hit the Captain, smiling devilishly to himself as he sees her fall unconscious to the deck. Just as Inigo wraps himself about the woman's wounded body, the rogue recoils from the tunderstone and then immediately leaps out of the way as the enormous bat swoops so close. His ears ring with the sudden shockwave of incredibly loud noise and Gad is left to work his jaw in futility.
Meanwhile, he instructs Inigo to continue tying up the Captain until she is smartly secured. Slowly shaking the rest of his senses into perseverance, he gets back to his feet and retrieves his cutlass. Gadashon moves to stand over the helpless form and looks down upon her; his face empty of remorse or compassion, it is filled instead with that wicked smile that can only be found with vengeance is at hand.

Erin's eyes whirl as he tries to keep his footing on the deck, and he catches sight of the Captain advancing towards the other ship.
Kier? Dammit! I'm not letting you down now, Captain.
Erin takes off at a run, darting past the other crew members. He draws his hand-and-a-half sword as he jumps between the two ships, spreading his wings for a moment to ease his desperate motion across the two ships.
