I can't imagine Chris spending six months on the story of how Doc and Judy met just for fun. So my prediction is that Judy is going to die in the next story and kick off the real endgame of his fight against Radical. Also possible is that Judy's knowledge of Doc's school and hometown is not coincidence, and she's a plant (from "The Wizard" that wants to kill him?) that is set to betray him. I think it's the death thing, though.

I was a little disappointed with this arc, to be honest. It would have been nice to see a bit more doc-vs-frankengorilla action.
Still probably the most heartwarming one yet, though.

Cockatrices can turn things into stone in some mythologies, and we already know they exist.

How stealthy must one be while he is hunting cockatrices? Dr. Mcninja seems to be trying to be stealthy, so maybe it is a smart enemy (which could still be a cockatrice, I have no idea how smart they are).

It turns people to stone by looking at them. (or variously, touching/breathing on them). This doesn't appear to require the target to meet its gaze, so even against a very dumb opponent, the attack would have to be a stealthy one to make it practical for success.

Mythical basilisks just kill with their gaze/touch/voice, they don't petrify. Though there is a certain amount of overlap between the two creatures in various sources, using the name of one to describe the other.

Well, as you say, it depends. Just talking about modern stuff (which can be a grab bag and mish mash of things at the best of times), D&D and various computer games feature the 'turn to stone' idea. Other computer games (inculding some in the same series as they evolve) have petrify.

It very probably is a cockatrice though. I just threw out basilisks since they're one of the few mosters who have been shown to petrify things that hadn't been mentioned yet.

I think my point was more that saying 'it could be a basilisk instead of a cockatrice' is a bit like saying 'it could be an alligator instead of a crocodile'. Two different species, but conflated by popular knowledge to the point where they're often used interchangeably despite one being very different to the other.

Really though, with all the similarities between Basilisks and Cockatrice I wouldn't be surprised if they originate from the same myth.
