Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
Such uncharacteristic and diverse competence can only be a sign that you have sold yourself to the Dark Powers.

Right, right ? It's an obvious sign of malign intent and malefic allegiance. Not that EVERY other facet of Holy Ordos are jealous, no sir.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
Hey, just like the Administratum rules the Imperium...
I RULEZZZ THIS GROUP!
But seriously, I just got awfully lucky. The most funny part was probably when the Ascension-level Magos (stupidly) went alone near the Flayed One Lord who just ambushed our assassin to try to demolish the area. He was badly ambushed and only barely survived...
Me: What were you trying to do alone?! Trying to be a hero and get yourself killed?
Techpriest: Hum... Off course not. It's a Special Adeptus Mechanicus holy rites that I just used and..
Me: I call Bull****. Roll for Lore : Adeptus Mechanicus
Techpriest: Huh.. /roll.. 4 degrees of success..
Me: 12 degrees of success. Yhea, you just made that up.
Techpriest: but.. but..
GM: Face it dude. He just schooled you at your own religion.

I feel sorry for the techpriest. This is the second time your character has outdone him in his field. Maybe he should put more points into his lore checks.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
So, I got bored tonight and decided to read WFRP 2E sourcebooks. And... okay, why did 3rd edition's fluff take such a hard nose dive?

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
Indeed. Unnatural intelligence multiply the number of success by its number.
I plan to get Unnatural Intelligence x4 by the end of the month. I'll most likely be able to operate a whole starship by myself at that point.
And take the "Precognition" Ascension Power. That will be so freakin' broken. Just think of my capacity to consider every single possibilities of the next seconds. Don't play Blitzchess with me, I'll be the freakkin' Kwizak Haderak.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
Well, here's something indicative of my general problem with 3rd edition WFRP: How they treat the Norse. It's far from my only problem, but it makes a good example as my problem with them is repeated over and over throughout the setting.

Even ignoring that, it still doesn't excuse the exclusion of, oh, I don't know, vital information for roleplaying? WFRP3 seems to think that killing dudes and taking their stuff is what that whole "roleplaying" business is all about, and anything not related to killing dudes and taking their stuff is irrelevant.Last edited by Craft (Cheese); 2012-11-16 at 08:26 AM.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
There is many places in the 2nd edition fluff that is quite contradictory, but it's savourous nonetheless.
I think the most blatant example is their description of:
- The Amethyst College of Magic
- The proximity of said college with the Aldorft Temple of Morr, the overall tone of that whole neighbourhood, people avoiding it
- The fact that in the core rulebook, it is established that the Temple of Morr and the Temple of Shallya are practically next door neighbours.
It's fun and all that, but it's starting to pile the fluff a bit much. Again, all of it is rather fun to read

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
I'd be tempted to say the reason Warhammer 3rd turned out like it did was it was licensed to Fantasy Flight Games who mainly do board and card games and so tried to turn WFRP into a card game with horrible results. But I believe FFG also handle the WH40K roleplaying stuff which seems to be going well.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
There was a setting read about in some book just like this, where the government segregated people who were citizens and those that weren't. It was pushed to such an extreme that entire neighborhoods populated by non-citizens were stricken from maps and even government records. So much so that there is a trade for illegal maps.
I could see though in a Fantasy setting putting a spell on a building to be accessable from a variety of locations, or even compress it into a pocket dimension. Bigger on the inside then on the outside as they say.

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
Well, I don't think 3rd edition is all bad. It patches up a lot of rough spots in the way 2E's mechanics worked, though it introduces a few new ones: Namely, ability cooldowns (whyyyyyyyyyy) and those stupid custom dice. It also has some legitimate DMing advice and the adventure modules I've read are competently written hack-and-slashes (though my baseline of comparison is stuff WotC puts out like Keep on the Shadowfell).

Re: Warhammer 40k RPGs General (Warhammer Fantasy RPG can come too)
So, the RT core rulebook mentions that if you finish your career, your character is so powerful and awesome that Rogue Trader is no longer an appropriate game for her, and you should consider a different 40k RPG.
I know that Rogue Trader was designed so that GMs who so chose could have characters fit in somewhat smoothly in as a "Dark Heresy 2: Now we're rich sociopaths" campaign.
Is there a system that comes after Rogue Trader and features even more powerful characters? I can't really imagine an RT joining the Deathwatch.Avatar by K penguin. Sash by Damned1rishman.
