Flim and Flam both poke their heads out of a pair of trash cans nestled in amongst the rubble. "We're good!" the both state in unison.

"What's going on?" Flim asks.

"Yeah, what's the situation?" Flam inquires.

"I'm not really quite sure...I'm trying to--"

He notices Down wave at someone. He looks off in the distance to see what she's waving at... and sees a familiar griffin.

"And that's Gwendolyn! HEY MISS GWENDOLYN!!!" Lucky exclaims loudly and cheerfully, grinning widely and giving a VERY enthusiastic waving of his hoof. Actually, 'flailing of his foreleg' may be a more accurate description of his gesture...

'Hauh....you know what...nevermind..." Gwendolyn deadpan. All that worrying inside, for nothing. She would not mention that. She waved back at Lucky with her claw/talons.

Manehatten - Scav Post

Aside from Scoops, Surprise, and Pop, there are three mares to observe Fox's showboating. One of them was, once again, face-first in humble pie... and a cupcake. Another one is currently trying to chew and digest a vanilla cupcake, a chocolate cupcake, and a marble one, assuming that surprise would be that generous. That does leave a pretty (wasteland pretty, a 5 by pre-war standards) pink unicorn to fawn over him.

I walked up to that one mare with the humbled face and cocked a brow. "Hey babe, enjoying your cupcake? Pretty aright ain't it?" I feigned casual talk.

Somehow, miraculously, TRSG! has earned yet another incredulous look from Down, in so few seconds.

"...wow."
That's...that's really all she can say.
What else could possibly come from her lips?

With a slightly halting movement, she forces her attention back to Lucky.
To something (faintly) more sane.
"So...you do know them. Guess we're meeting some more travelers then."

Flim and Flam peek around the rubble and see Lucky waving. Both twins raises a hoof to wave at him. "Oh hey, there's Mister Lucky," Flim observes.

"Guess we were worried for nothing," Flam grins.

"And here I thought he got himself blown up or something."

"Yeah, or something like that."

"Guess we should go on over?" Flim asks, looking over at Gwendolyn to follow her lead.

Lucky tips his hat to all of TRSG! as they're introduced, and chuckles softly. "My goodness, yer a friendly bunch. Such a nice change of pace..."

And then Down asks about his friends!

"Miss Gwendolyn is the griffin. She's my friend, and kinda my bodyguard. There other two are Flim and Flam, a pair of twin merchants that hired us to escort their caravan. Nice kids, if a bit naive," he explains with a shrug.

Lucky studies Down for a moment out of the corner of his eye. "You know, don't take this the wrong way," he cautiously states after a moment, still giving her a sideways glance, "But I gotta say... Yer different from the other Enclave folks I've met. Remarkably so, actually. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. I like being alive..." he smirks wryly.

Sergeant Sprinkles stares at the earth pony who doesn't know what a Zebra is. "Mother of Celestia..." the old robot mutters in awe. "It's like a dream come true..."

And then Surprise makes a suggestion!

Without any hesitation, Sprinkes yanks the party cannon out from nowhere, sets it on the floor so it's aimed at the ceiling, and pulls the firing cord.

"Oh right, payment!" Soda Fizz chimes, trotting over to a lock box. "How does 200 caps sound? Plus the schematics!"

She levitates a key from under the pillow on her bed, and proceeds to work on the lock. As she unlocks it, she casts a curious glance back over her shoulder. "What about Bucky?"

Caravan on the way? Will it arrive soon? Hopefully! Then they'll be able to move on to Tenpony!

Though...

It seems someone has been forgotten!

"What about me!?" the foalbot pipes up indignantly.

Sour offers her a soothing smile. "Please excuse Swiss. She can get a bit absent minded when she's excited sometimes. Mister Lucky Break? This is Vinyl Scratch. We recently liberated her from a now defunct Stable."

"With killer robots in it!" Swiss adds.

PCHOOOOO!

Confetti and streamers and balloons everywhere! Any tables are suddenly covered in garishly colored spreads. Ponies in the room may or may not find themselves equipped with party hats suddenly and without reason. A disco ball thunks into the ceiling and begins to rotate, flooding the room in flashing, flickering lights.

All the while Surprise is doing her best to get the others to dance with her!

"Come ON everypony! Dance and have some FUN!"

Ladle is an easy-going chap, so he just sort of boggles at the non-answer he's given and goes on to put the suddenly appearing cupcake into the soup mix. Pop Rock, however, doesn't like the party cannon being brought out. "Hey! No firing anything in here!"

Fox Trot's gloating now has the added effect of coming with both hoof-candy and SICK BEATS. It's like everything's going his way suddenly! The unicorn in question giggles a bit and asks, "My aren't you a brave stallion." The angry one is still angry.

Up top, the music is nothing more than faint wubs that likely wouldn't be picked up in any identifiable amounts. "She's friendly, sir. We can likely get a lot of information from what she volunteers. VIP knows more about Morale projects and security systems and projects than anypony alive. Already it's payed off, like I mentioned earlier she lead me to Morale-1's pipbuck." What the Star Paladin would likely pick up on is that she just called his previous order, in a roundabout and nice way, a bad idea, thus needing the 'speak freely'.

And now Fleetwing was feeling a bit of that joy himself. Even split two ways, 200 caps was nothing to sneeze at. The pegasi's wings fluttered excitedly, only staying closed by sheer force of will. "200 caps and a fancy schematic sound mighty fair t'me." Now he just had to see those schematics, see how tricky it'd be to fetch those parts.

As for Bucky...maybe it'd be best to let Violetta handle that for the moment. What could he really say? Oh, just thought I'd mention this, but the fella next door wants you bad enough to kill us, probably in our sleep if it came down to it, maybe you two should spend a bit more time together?

Somehow, he didn't think that'd have her swooning in his legs.

"Yeah, I think it will be alright..." She said, her words fading a bit. She started walking by their side keeping an eye out for other dangers, this was a concrete jungle still, with possible danger from all sides. Never hurt to be a it paranoid. And so she walked along ground level, occasionally looking to see Lucky was still up therre.

Down glances back down at Vinyl as she/it speaks up.
Thank goodness it looked normalish (for a robot) now. There would be...issues, if she was still wearing her suit.

She moves her gaze back towards the approaching caravan, taking a moment to lift up Lucky's rifle to give their surroundings a scan.

Yep, she's going to make him ask.

"As often as the surface seems convinced otherwise, the Grand Pegasus Enclave is not a society of murderers."
It's a somewhat dry response, but after a moment she gives it a better, softer toned addendum.

"Try to imagine what it's like, to spend your life in a world where everything is relatively stable and calm. Has been for years, and will hopefully stay that way for years to come.
And then you look below the clouds and see-
Down sweeps a hoof to decayed buildings, the slowly crumpling skeleton of a certain blown up building, the smoke of a recently destroyed Stable.
"-all of this chaos, brutality, horror. You get scared, or defensive...try to do what you can to protect your home. Home always comes first.

We're not heartless monsters. A lot of us...just don't know how to react, and go too far."

She's almost mumbling a bit, by the end of that, seeming just a trace apologetic and melancholy.

Manehatten Scouting Misadventures

Lucky listens along to what Down has to say. He tilts his head towards her, looking at her directly rather than with a sidelong glance. When she concludes, he studies her for a moment, his expression neutral.

And then a small smile forms on his features. There was a lot of irony in this situation. Though, it was probably better if he didn't tell Down exactly why it was ironic. "You know, I'm glad I met you, Miss Down. Aside from the whole 'exploding building' bit, of course," he says with a smirk. After a moment, his smirk fades, and her glances off to the side. "Because... I dunno. You give me hope. Hope that maybe the Enclave ain't so bad. That maybe there are actually more ponies up there like you, willin' to be nice and civil an' stuff. That maybe I just lucked out with that last bunch of Enclavers I met," he shrugs, casting his gaze up towards the overcast skies. "It'd... be nice. To know I'm right about something. To know the folks we think of as 'bad guys,' be it the Enclave or some of the other groups down here... ain't all actually, y'know... bad guys..." he says, his voice softening to almost a mutter, as if he's saying that last bit not just to Down, but also to himself. "If that makes any sense."

Oh Lucky, you poor guilt-ridden bastard. Perhaps it's time for a mood-lightening distraction?

Gwendolyn may notice that there's a giant radroach perched on top of Flam's hat. Both twins are apparently oblivious to its existence.

In fact, they don't respond very well at all, and in unison they both yelp and leap towards Gwendolyn, latching onto her for deal life. "That thing was on my head?!" Flam wails in horror. "Flim, why didn't you say something?!"

"I didn't see it, Flam!" Flim retorts, before tightening his grip around the griffin bodyguard. "Ah! I think it's coming back!"

It's buzzing a lazy circle around the trio...

"There boys, the big bad radroach probably won't eat your livers now."

Violetta nodded. "I have no objections to that deal." She didn't actually know how much of a profit they were making, but figured if Fleetwing liked it, it couldn't be that bad.

[Getting Veeeeery Close to Fourstar Tower Now]

The manticore cub wakes up and aaaaarches his back as a result of all the commotion. Stretches his front legs. His wings. Yawns. Then turns in a circle and lays down again in a slightly different position. The little critter hasn't felt anything approaching security for quite some time now! Even with how loud Flim and Flam are this certainly beats being on his own.

"Alright, so what's the plan Moondancer?" Rye inquires as she casts her gaze at the still illusion'd up unicorn. "They'll ask us to disarm as usual of course at the front gate. What's our first order of business once we're inside?"

"Getting Vinyl to her destination should probably come first. I doubt that the DJ will be very keen on waiting any longer than necessary to meet her. After that I believe it would be wise for me to check in with Cash Register to see how the Curiosity Shop has fared in my absence. We'll be able to drop off most of the nick-knacks we have collected and restock on Caps."

"Now that's a plan Ah can get behind," Corn laughs. "Ah've been itchin' to try some new recipes. After that tin of chocolates Ah think I can whip up a whole batch..."

"I'll be headed to Healing Hooves to get this Luna-damned gunk out of my mane. Don't care how much the spa treatment costs, it's worth every cap," Rye grouses.

"And I'll wander around getting into no trouble what so ever!" Swiss proudly proclaims. The rest of the ponies give her a skeptical look. "Whaaaaat? I told you, that totally wasn't my fault last time!"

At first, silence. And then a skeptical reply. "I have reason to believe she may be less friendly and more delusional. She has been locked in one of those suspension pods for the last two hundred years hasn't she?" Onion Dip replies. "The technology she has is a danger to the ponies around her and of great value to us. Any knowledge she might have about the Ministry of Morale is largely irrelevant to our mission and oath to the Ministry of Wartime Technology."

Seems like he doesn't think playing nice is a good plan.

"If you can bring her in peacefully then well enough. We can question her before her tech is archived."

Meanwhile!

Surprise is dancing like an idiot! And trying to get anypony to challenge her in a cupcake eating contest. Will anypony be foalish enough to take up the task!

The mare is about to give Fox Trot the closest she can give to a witty retort before the pretty pink unicorn butts in. She's getting a little close to Fox. "Oh and such a nice stallion too. Ignore her, you've seen how she gets." Between that and the wubs, the first mare is drowned out.

Surprise might find one our two ponies aren't quite agile enough to avoid being drug out onto the dance floor. None seem to be taking her up on the eating contest. Although the robo-mare should watch out, Ladle might be a hidden eating ninja.

Meanwhile, on the roof

"Understood sir, I was making my concerns on this subject as it relates to The Mission." It's getting complicated again, but Whadda might have a way out personally. Oh and Surprise might be the one hardest to kill mare in Equestria so that's good too.

"I feel it would be my duty to brief somepony in assault and recovery over her abilities. There's high potential for casualties, especially going in blind." Whadda's... playing politics here? Having seen first-hoof what Surprise is capable of, the Star Paladin wouldn't be dumb enough to order a single pony to do a squad's job. And given what she's seen, Scoops can make it sound suicidal to the commanders, and that might be enough to pull the plug on his plans.

While TRSG! is discussing their next plan of action, Down and Lucky seem dangerously close to having some sort of moody heart-to-heart.


"Sometimes bad things have to be done for good ends."
Down seems to be subscribing, at least a little, to the good ol' "the ends justify the means" outlook on life.
Considering the society she comes from, this shouldn't be that surprising.

But it seems to be a fairly common idea overall in the Wasteland. Red Eye, Unity, even some of the harsher settlements. They all seek what they view to be a "good", but perform a great many evils in the process.


She smiles, a little, appreciative that she was able to sway Lucky's opinion a bit.
As a reward, she even seems to be holding his rifle out to him, although her attention is still outwardly directed towards the approaching FlimFlam Caravan.
"Return to your companions. They were probably worried."

Surprise grabs a pony to dance with!

She really doesn't care who it is. Or even if they're a mare or a stallion. She hasn't danced in the past two centuries and it is high time to have some fun! "So what do you think of the surprise party?" the cyberpony asks gleefully. "It's the first one I've thrown in forever. I hope it's good by present day standards. Getting behind the times would be terrible! As a certified Ministry of Morale Party Technician it's important that my parties are super-duper funnerific!"

Remember! Be honest with the cyborg! It isn't like she'll start going insane and talking to buckets of turnips if she thinks you don't like her parties.

Meanwhile!

"You've implied that you believe VIP will be willing to come in peacibly," Star Paladin Onion Dip replies. "If you can convince her to come to Bucklyn Cross then well enough. If not then return yourself and you can personally brief the extraction team of the VIP's capabilities. If we secure her you can expect a promotion in the near future."

Lucky's expression turns into one of unease when Down makes her remark about bad things and justifying ends. His eyes betray a certain mix of discomfort and sadness. He looks down for a moment, apparently choosing not to say anything on the matter, partially because he doesn't even know his own stance on such things anymore.

And then she holds his rifle out to him. Lucky looks back up, and smirks. "Oh, I doubt they were worried. Miss Gwendolyn probably enjoyed havin' a break from my idiocy." He accepts the rifle, and slings it back over his shoulder. "Alrighty, be back in a moment folks."

And with that, he flies over to rejoin his caravan.

Gwendolyn squashes the roach! It dies!

Unfortunately, its death results in the unleashing of several dozen little baby radroaches, which promptly begin to scurry everywhere - including up Gwendolyn's rifle.

Creepy.

Naturally, Flim and Flam squeeze onto Gwendolyn even tighter, and shriek even louder.

Soda Fizz pulls a bag of bottle caps out of the box with her telekinesis, along with a rolled up set of blue-hued schematics. "Feelings for Bucky?" the dark-furred mare repeats, audibly confused. "Um, well, he's a nice guy, I guess. We're friends and all. Uh... I assume he feels like a normal stallion would feel, right? I wouldn't know from experience," she observes obliviously, tilting her head from side to side in thought. "And of course he likes me. Friends are supposed to like each other, right?"

With a few beats of her wings Swiss flies up to join Down. "Since we're all headed to the same spot Sour thinks we should wait for the caravan," the mock-pegasus explains. "Usually it's best to travel in greater numbers in the Wasteland. Makes it a bit less likely that nasty things will mess with you."

And everypony hates to be messed with by nasty things.

"Oh! And I've noticed that some of your armor's systems have been acting a little... uuhh... broken. If you like I could probably speed up the repair if the talismans are taking too long!" Swiss offers.

What a helpful not-pony! Though... the repair work would probably require touching.

Luckily, that other mare gets away from the perpetual scowl-fest that was about to happen... by being grabbed by a crazy cyborg ninja that was also likely a pirate. And so she begins dancing. Pretty Pink seems to be happy that the mutual flirting train is right on track. "I hope you can dance as good as you can shoot then." She goes in for a nuzzle.

The rest of the partygoers must announce that it's the best wasteland party ever. It might be, since nopony parties anymore. Even one of them seems to be enjoying cupcakes a little too much. A new convert to Surprise's Way of the Pastry.

At some point a stallion may tell the robot to 'go' and insist that it's his birthday. No ethical dilemmas here.

On the Roof

This is where the ethical dilemmas are. So Scoops seems to be stuck between her Ranger family and what's right. The Star Paladin wasn't listening to reason and she has little recourse at this moment. Any other way out of getting somepony killed didn't look good for her or anypony she knows.

There's a matter at hand though. "Advise: original capture order was heard by entire exfil group. VIP will not risk going arrival in pony." Maybe Surprise will have a copy of her blueprints. Who knows? Maybe she won't mind if she's hunted by armored ponies wanting to kill her for the next few years...

Yah, there's going to have to be an awkward talk.

Surprise Party always did make a point of celebrating Talk Like a Pirate day. The silliest and most trivial of holidays were always favorites among the Ministry of Morale. The more amusing things for ponies to do to keep their minds off the atrocities of war the better.

"Soooo! I'm Surprise Party!" the cyborg says to her newest dance partner. "What's your name? Did you like the cupcakes? If you could be ANY type of tree what would you be?"

These are all very important questions!

Or maybe Surprise is just kind of crazy.

One of those things.

"...you didn't bother to wait for some privacy before you contacted us?"

"Um, well, he's a nice guy, I guess. We're friends and all. Uh... I assume he feels like a normal stallion would feel, right? I wouldn't know from experience," she observes obliviously, tilting her head from side to side in thought. "And of course he likes me. Friends are supposed to like each other, right?"

Oh boy...

They had to get an oblivious mare to realize there was more to some relationships than just hanging out and being friends, and his only help was a filly who, for all he knew, didn't even know what a hug was.

Oh boy indeed.

"Well, yeah, sure they should." Fleetwing massaged his forehead, straining to think of a way he could say this that wouldn't be completely embarrassing. "But what if Bucky wants t'be...y'know...really good friends. So good that you're...er...more than friends? Yeah, that's it, more than friends. What would you think about that?"

"That's probably for the best. I expected we would end up traveling together."
Just a little hunch she had.
For no apparent reason. Probably.

And then Swiss offers to tinker with Down's suit!
"That's...as long as we don't get in any fights, I should be fine.
Might need a spark battery or two though?"
Don't complete dash her helpfulness Down! Offer her a consolation prize.

"Aaww..." Swiss droops a bit when her offer of repairing the armor is turned down. That's really too bad. She would love to help her friend and get a chance to examine Enclave armor more closely!

But that would probably be giving away state secrets or something.

"Well..." Swiss' phantom horn lights up and a sparkle battery is pulled from her saddle bags. "I usually keep one or two on me in case I need to rig up an EMP or magic grenade. But if you need one I guess I can part with it."

The device is levitated toward Down. "Where do I slot it in?"

She hesitated for a bit, trying to figure things out. "I don't really know why this should be overcomplicated, actually. Basically, he loves you, but doesn't know if you love him back."

Oh right, Swiss would want to apply the battery herself, wouldn't she?

Down is still a little leery about that idea, but steels her mind to allow it anyway.

She flexes a wing over, trying to flick at something with her feathers. Sorts of just scrapes around the little hatch she's looking for, though. Not quite a good angle.

One gets the feeling she's not really used to doing this that often.
Likely relies on someone else, or actually taking her armor off.
"Erm. Should just be able to...flick that with your magic, and there will be a spent one in there you can replace."

She seems slightly more okay with magic touching, it seems.

Anyway, "flicking" the hatch open will reveal a few components and wires that seem designed to integrate the gun with her suit properly. There is also a secondary power supply spot for spark batteries!

Pay no heed to the bits of dirt, leaves, and blood that seem to be stuck here and there.

With some deft TK Swiss pops the hatch open, pulls out the spent cartage, and pops the new one in. And for whatever reason Swiss keeps the old cartage!

Huh...

Wonder why she would do that? Maybe she actually knows how to restore a sparkle battery. That would be a useful trick!

"There you go Down! All set!" Swiss comments brightly as she snaps the hatch shut again, her face all smiles. "And I noticed some relatively fresh leaves in there."

The changeling hovers a little closer.

"You... weren't in the Everfree Forest, were you? Is that how your armor got so banged up?"
