Normally I'd leak pheromones and aphrodisiacs into the air until the party devolved into random, secretive debauchery that everyone thinks nopony knows about, but I've been asked to reel it in tonight. [Several Months Later - Cirrus Crew - Outside of Trottingham]

The chaos and confusion of the civil war; hardly ideal conditions for a civilian town to flourish. And yet, against all odds, Trottigham had risen to become one of the up-and-coming cultural hubs of Equestria. The clever Mayor nearly bankrupted himself pooling the best and brightest their culture had to offer, and building up a series of high-class homes for the nobility and well off. Almost overnight, the word went out that if a pony stood to make their start, they should go to that magical town. Here, wealthy ponies fell over themselves to patron artists, alternative healers, fresh salons, anything to fill their insatiable appetite for the new and trending. In the high notes of operas and the soothing acupuncture tables, they could escape from their dreary and frightening world.

The town itself was growing fast. What had once been a few villas now stood to become an entire high-class district in the emerging city. Downtown, stages and clinics and restaurants of all kinds catered to the most bizarre of whims, that one could hardly walk the whole length and not find a single thing to indulge in. Though one might just wish to walk the whole length; the city's fine cobblestone streets were gentle on the hoof and pleasing to the eye. At night, a complicated system of magical lights lit the whole place up, ensuring that ponies could be served at all times of day.

However, our story begins with the airship just docked outside of town...

The call had come in a few weeks prior; the Backers wished for a rather singular gem, unique in all the world. Something about its application for magiscience or some such. The strange ponies with deep pockets rarely deigned to give the crew the full, honest details. The point stood that they wished for a gem, and a great paycheck had been placed on its prompt delivery.

The crew had wasted no time in scouring the land, beating down the doors of all their usual connections in search of the precious thing. After a moderate amount of property damage, they'd gotten wind that somepony had seen a rather fancy-looking gem just in Trottingham, escorted by a dozen guards, no less. In shape, hue, and brilliance it sounded absolutely identical to the one they were after, and their lead even knew the address to which it had been taken. Sooner than one could say, "Sorry for blowing up your front door," they were off, and before long they were docking their ship just outside the bustling town-city.

While the crew took care of securing the ship for docking, Gearstride and Sandy had elected to scout out the city. If their lead on the gemstone was real, they might have this job all neatly locked up in a day or two, and still have plenty of time to see the sights of the city.

After all, how hard could it be to get a simple gem?


[Cirrus - Conference Room]

That evening, the call went out to all the crewponies: Report to the conference room immediately for an urgent briefing.

As they assembled, Sandy stood at attention at Gearstride's side near the head of the table, his usual armor and knives swapped out for a more casual uniform. His saddlebags bulged with rolled-up scrolls and papers, and he constantly was glancing through them, nervously ensuring that all was in order.

Rainbow

The the earth pony mare with the multicolored mane enters the room with her new headband mounted scope flipped over her eye. The leather armor with with hard plates sewn in it is rather unflattering with it's muddy brown color. It does not even match the hoof crossbows on her front hooves. But on does not have to be fashionable.

Hover

Hover's mane is done up a new way. As the ship's pilot and worst fighter combat-wise, she planned on staying in the ship at the helm. A few locks sat over her face while others from a ponytail which match her own tail. She is where Blazing Hooves, her new husband, is.

The lieutenant meanwhile busied himself with the dreary task of meeting with city officials. Ponies tend to get spooked when an airship bristling with the latest in modern weaponry appears in the sky. With the Captain out scouting, it fell to Silverpine to ensure that all the necessary paperwork was filled, the authorities placated and essential hooves greased to ensure nopony bats an eye when something goes pear-shaped. The last came easily, as the Backers were generous in providing "spending" money.

Silverpine entered the room behind Rainbow, having just escaped an onerous luncheon meeting with the mayor. At least he already looked presentable, his Cirrus uniform pressed immaculately, his silver mane cropped neatly and his usual shotgun slung behind his back. He saluted Gearstride as he entered, nodded at the rest, before taking his place on the other side of Gear, opposite Sandy.

Fox and Icy

It seemed the two dumped Lone Star with the duo because friendship. Fox sighed and feigned interest in the painting. "At the rate we're going and all our dawdling...I don't even feel like we're going to accomplish anything here." He berated himself and scraped his hoof against the floor in frustration.

To the two tipsy mares, Lone Star's cheery optimism was quite genuine who giggled. "Have you done any book tours?" Cerise asked.

Meanwhile, Lemon Tea took a moment to glance around and frowned. "Mmm...Quick Step...she's taking a long while..." She said worryingly.

Cerise shrugged. "Maybe she's just talking with other ponies, partying it up with others?"

"Mmm..I dunno...she wasn't coming off as all partying and social earlier.." Lemon Tea sighed. "Mm..maybe you're right...I dunno...anyways..yea...book tours." Lemon Tea puffed her cheeks slightly and looked back at Lone Star.

"Well not just anyone, just mares acting like they don't want me in their presence, mares who probably would shove me in front of carriage," Fast Heal replied with a cheeky smirk and laughed.

Gearstride's uniform was a little less...immaculate, her hat in place as she stood there waiting for everyone.

"Where is Hover and Blaze? Has anyone seen them today?" She asked those in here as she gingerly sipped some mead.

"A pleasure," The Mayor replied, she looked to be around Balboa's age, shocker, though there were obvious attempts to hide her age with magical face lifts.

"Heeey...what happened to your weird but kinda...cute accent?" Cerise giggled. "I must drunk hahaha..hah..mmm."

"We both must be hahah..hehe...anyways...mmmm...don't be silly...I never said that...that would..Sun Kissed...I swear...stallions never listen or pay attention hahaha..." Lemon Tea giggled.

Zen... Um... How iz ze party going? He asked, quickly picking his accent back up. You certainly zeem to enjoy ze wine. And ze flirting.

Clearly, throwing Lone Star to the wolvesladies was most effective. With the two tipsy flirts out of the way, Icy could at least resume keeping an eye out for any cult members. "Don't worry, Fox. The night's young," she whispered as she snuck in another nuzzle.

"Well not just anyone, just mares acting like they don't want me in their presence, mares who probably would shove me in front of carriage," Fast Heal replied with a cheeky smirk and laughed.

"I'd like to remind you that upsetting a lawyer wouldn't result in physical pain," Ammy responds before beckoning one of the staff over that's got a plate of drinks that doesn't make one drunk. It's getting time though to cut loose this stallion and try to find the less-annoying looking social butterflies.

As the other ponies filed in, Sandy nodded to Silverpine, Blaze, and Hover, saving a little smile and wave for Rainbow. "There they are, Cap'n. That's everypony." The little engineer stood back and let his Captain take the floor first.

(Point of order that I forgot to mention: Current time is evening.)

"Heheh haha..mmmm...It's going okay...wish these ponies would dance...buncha stiffs," Cerise giggle-whined.

"The wine is pretty good hehe..have you tried some? Lemon Tea asked Lone Star.

Balboa playfully rolled his eyes at Hay Bale's action whilst grinning. "Mmm, we were just discussing the state of affairs with the relations between the Zebras and Equestrians, what's you're input on it my dear?"

Unfortunately for Icy, the cult members didn't go blatantly dressed in hooded black robes or wear name tags that said 'Hello! My Name is Cultist #25739'. However, in the corner of her eye her eyes would catch suspicious looking activity near one of the mare powder rooms. A stallion stood leaning against the door to it watching the crowds.

"Perhaps...." Fox whispered and accepted her nuzzle.

Trottingham-The Cirrus

"Make yourselves comfy everyone," Gearstride said as she abruptly turned to face away at the head of the table. "As you know in regards to the gem, that from what the Backers told us, is of high importance, top secret importance, of course, that it is pre-favorable that we mention as a little as we can about its...uniqueness outside of the Cirrus."

"Anyways, Sergent Shores and I in our investigations have discovered the location of the gem, however acquiring it will not be so easy. As a matter of fact downright difficult that will require a stealthy infiltration, cunning and a whole manner of glibness. The gem we seek is being used as an ornament piece as part of a crown, however we will not be able to retrieve the crown so easily without risking word getting out and complicating matters even more. This is to be a covert operation. There is one way however, to retrieve it without letting secrets out. It is a prize in a contest." Gearstride paused for dramatic effect and glanced downward closing her eyes.

"We will have to enter a beauty pageant."

[Cirrus - Manure Gets Real]

A grim-faced Sandy magically plucked a rolled-up paper from his saddlebags, and dramatically unfurled it for all to see.

It was a poster, the like one might see advertising a new play or musical. In sparkling letters, it said:

Behold the grace, beauty, and talent of the shining stars of Equestria!

Who will claim the crown as Trottingham's newest Princess?

A slender, shapely, faceless alicorn stood front and center, illuminated by a spotlight. Stars swirled about her, flung from the very sequins on her dress. And on her head, a regal tiara of silver weave shone brightest, highlighted by a brilliant green emerald.

The very same the Cirrus crew had been searching for.

"Good, I'm not particularly fond of pain," He continued to grin and took a step forward.

Ammy responds with a rather bemused look and a small step backwards. It seems as though this last move wasn't really appreciated.

Balboa playfully rolled his eyes at Hay Bale's action whilst grinning. "Mmm, we were just discussing the state of affairs with the relations between the Zebras and Equestrians, what's you're input on it my dear?"

Hay Bale adjusted her shades. I ain't as familiar with the politics of the situation as I'd like but what little I do know suggests there's more hostility than there should be. She rolled her eyes. The Zebras' wariness of us is understandable but unneeded.

Unfortunately for Icy, the cult members didn't go blatantly dressed in hooded black robes or wear name tags that said 'Hello! My Name is Cultist #25739'. Pity, that would have made their job so much easier. Still, her gaze lingered on said suspicious stallion for a moment, before she turned to whisper again into Fox's ear. "Dear, did you notice the pony near the mare powder room?"

Silverpine had to heroically resist the urge to facehoof at their suggestion of... a beauty pageant. Though in hindsight, it was remarkably in-character for the captain to suggest such. He kept a carefully neutral mask on, and fiddled with the collar with his uniform.

"So, who will be going?" he asked dryly.

Fast Heal just grinned and half heartedly shrugged. "Oh come on...you don't have to act like that Miss Lawyer, you won't catch the cooties, I got my shot for that years ago." He laughed.

"Frankly the Zebras should surrender and stop playing war....Equestria will only hold back for so long," The mayor replied with a bored sigh as she stirred her martini.

"I don't believe the Zebras will cease.....just the other week another Equestrian colony was attacked, mostly sabotage this time like turning their food supplies into manure and water stores into urine, no casualties..this time.." Balboa wrinkled his muzzle, his eyes narrowing in thought of the striped menace.

"We will all go, but of course, one may decide to stay this one out if they so desire....perhaps as back up reserves though I don't believe such a thing will be needed." Gearstride replied in utter serious business.

"The what?...Oh..well not til now...Hmmm..that's kinda odd...I hardly doubt he's waiting for some fillyfriend," Fox said cautiously as he covertly glanced over.

(I just realised Benson is involved in five scenes here now. On that note, will be waiting on everyone before proceeding with the Cirrus.)

"Well, we may as well stop to chat then, no?" Icy whispered back, before pulling back and smiling, as if she had just made a private joke. "Be right back..." She disengaged from Fox and weaved her way towards the powder rooms, all the while glancing towards the stallion. "Excuse me," she would murmur before trying to go through the room he was leaning on.

Fast Heal just grinned and half heartedly shrugged. "Oh come on...you don't have to act like that Miss Lawyer, you won't catch the cooties, I got my shot for that years ago." He laughed.
