    Whoo!

Oh, and if anyone's wondering, I made the length of the contest a little longer because of the holidays here and because I'll be going to Florida after Christmas. The extra time should be enough, but if anybody has a particularly busy holiday season and needs another week or something, I'm not opposed to adding one.

This is interesting. I haven't done much homebrew before, but I think I would like to try. All my brainstorming keeps coming back to the pied piper... I think I will try for that.

I actually want to make a class based on the Count of Monte Cristo, but I'm only about 60% sure it can be made into a full class.

I read this post before the contest's theme and thought that it would be about something to do with your own heritage.

Now I know that it's not that, but I do feel like spitting through the family tree again. Hopefully grandma's managed to make it more organized since I last saw it...

Tempted to participate in this one, but unfortunately I'm not finding a concept for it coming to me easily and I would rather prioritize my MUHA entry. Maybe if my homebrewing overload actually eases off far enough before the deadline.

Okay, I have a few ideas, just spitballing.

Knight of Dullahan: A class that's kind of like Dread Nectomancer except with the theme of becomming a Death Knight instead of a Lich. Thinking about a class ability that lets you use your own spinal cord as a sword.

Berserker: A class based on the bare warriors of the north. Focus on fighting naked through DR and a crap ton of hit points rather than the usual "mental stat to AC" means.

I think I'm going to try and do something based off of fairy tale protagonists, sort of a "friend of the wee folk, gets by via luck and charm rather than brute force" type of deal.
If brute force isn't working, that just means you're not using enough of it.

When in doubt, set something on fire. If not in doubt, set something on fire anyway.

I might try and throw my hat in on this one. Should be a neat thing to try with a first homebrew thing. Plus, a metric truckload of Supernatural in the nearby past has kind of amped up my Fables and Mythology creativity bucket.

All I can think of is making someone based on Jack. Because Jack is awesome. And can trick Death into getting into a bag so that he can live forever.

No. But I could see a class with a differing version of the Inspiration class feature. Perhaps one more specifically designed for combat?

So like a version of this class, but one that actually works and is wayyy more mechanically original.

Jack the Giant Slayer (the one who climbed the beanstalk), Jack the... well pretty much generic character of American folk lore. If an old Appalachian folk tale has a protagonist it's probably Jack. I don't know how many princesses/mayor's daughters he's married.

Well, with the proper fluff...Maybe instead of insight and cleverness, It's a class that's a pawn of the gods and his bonuses are the luck granted by the gods.

Ah, Though I am now tempted to make Spring-Heeled Jack a character...Though the jumping gimmick seems more of a "Prestige Class" thing.

All of them... because why not? FablesTM almost did it already.

Speaking of which, I'm so tempted to make that type of class (legendary popularity/renown/fame as power source)

I don't have a lot of homebrewing experience, but I think I've got a pretty good idea for this one, so I'm going to give it a shot. My idea is a sort of "wild man," someone raised by animals, like wolves.

Working on the Dullahan Knight, would you say that 9th level is too early to be immune to critical hits and beheadings? It's a conditional ability(dependant on armor) and I don't want him to get his headless related abilities too late, but I also don't want people to just dip in the class for crit immunity.

Well, the Dread Necromancer doesn't get immunity to crits until they become a Lich at level 20. You could give them partial immunity (fortification) instead.

Well they also get all that nifty lich stuff at the same level. My thought is that you could spread out the undead bonuses and by the end become a death knight (or something like it)
