WATCHTOWER 16: Quick and Dirty

"Yeah, I'm ready. But, uh... where are we going? I thought the party wasn't until later tonight?"

See, Ilpholin actually thought they were doing this thing here at Watch and was prepared for such. Though Darcy is right. More peoples' presence could make Ilpholin nervous depending on how things played out, but I can't say for certain.

"Sure, but no reason to hang out here," Darcy says. She's pretty wary about having Ilpholin do it here, what with all the talk of using force that had come up before.

Wenomir's answer is also pretty quick. For all his technological backwardness, he managed to learn how to use the pager.

Adir arrives there in short order, looking around for his comrade-in-arms. If I recall correctly, the stag hasn't seen Wenomir since he became human again.

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

He has not. So now Wenomir is standing there over a table. It should be noted he's also wearing full armor.

[Murkus]

[Planning Room]

"Whoah, Wenomir, what happened with your face?" Adir asks, dressed in some warm clothing, a rifle slung over his shoulder. "You look... um, y'know, pinker." He didn't wanna say 'normal'. That seemed a little rude.

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"I was turned back into a normal human," Wenomir says matter-of-factly. "The demon blood that turned me into a demonhunter is gone, which includes a change of appearance."

[Reinholdt]

HT was waiting for Lex to say when the party was going to start. >.>

"Sure, but no reason to hang out here," Darcy says. She's pretty wary about having Ilpholin do it here, what with all the talk of using force that had come up before.

Oh no. Of course waiting on Lex. She was referring to Nexus time.

"Uh... there's... not? Ok." Ilpholin says, thoroughly confused now and going to step over to the door.

See, paranoid Ilpholin thought this would include a jail room, a camera, a guard or two, and visitors for a week as this whole thing went down. That's what she was prepared for anyways. Well... if you can call going behind backs to cheat the system preparing. Though she'd be proud of Darcy for doing it her way rather than anyone else's way.

"I was turned back into a normal human," Wenomir says matter-of-factly. "The demon blood that turned me into a demonhunter is gone, which includes a change of appearance."

"Now how'd that happen?" Adir asks, giving the former demonhunter a once over. I'm sure he'll get down to business in the next post or two.

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"I came to an old friend of mine for help. I helped him bust another friend of his out of political prison, and they both removed the demon taint from me," Wenomir explains. Since this plot is technically not finished yet and Wenomir's change was a timeskip, I can't give too many details.
As for his appearance, Wenomir's eyes are of course normal brown, and his skin is noticeably darker.

If Darcy was willing to do that, she'd have set up an ambush back at the original meeting.

Darcy takes Ilpholin's hand. To Outside!

"Sounds like a fun weekend," Adir quips, grabbing a seat at the planning room's table. "Well you look good, man. I didn't peg you for brown eyes."

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

Wenomir shrugs.
"Most people I knew back home had either brown or black eyes. My brother's entire family does, too. I guess it's an ethnic thing. But enough about me... did Darcy and Ilpholin leave?"

[Murkus]

[Planning Room]

"To a party, from what I heard," Adir says, leaning back in his chair. "I could scent the girls and tail em', if you think it's necessary, but Darcy really wanted her shot at this."

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

Wenomir is silent for a while, digesting it.
"I think we should leave it to her, yes. This is a delicate situation, what with Ilpholin being in AMEN on our orders, technically at least, and Darcy falling in love with her. Let Darcy handle it and then we'll deal with the results. If we meddle, it would probably end up badly."

[Planning Room]

"Yeah, well, I'm more worried about the apocalyptic demon incursion than Darcy and Ilpholin's love life," Adir says, still skeptical about this whole thing. Still, Darcy seemed like a smart kid, and she'd roped Ilpholin in so far. Best to let things proceed. "Speaking of which, how're we doing on the Cuthonian front?"

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"They're being surprisingly quiet. No rampaging around the countryside, ravening hordes or anything of the sort. They're probably up to something." Then there's that expedition to their base in Outside, which is yet to be resolved. "To tell you the truth, I'm worried they may have corrupted more people like they did Ilpholin. But looking for such individuals among all the people in the Nexus... would be problematic."

"I guess we need some way of sniffing them out," Adir says, pondering to himself. Hmmm. "Are there any, like, signs of their presence? Omens or something demony like that?"

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"Silver shines in their presence," Wenomir says. "Of course, plenty of other creatures interact with silver, but it's something. I remember hunting another demon long ago, not long after Watchtower was founded. I think he was the same kind of demon. I and a few other people used silver to sniff them out."

[Murkus]

[Planning Room]

"Silver. It harms them too, right?" Adir nods. "Well, clearly we need squads of newbies doing laps around Inside with silver sporks. It's the only way to be sure."

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

Wenomir shrugs.
"Visiting Trog's, the Den or other orgs with silver items might not hurt. It's not like it's a lot of effort and it might help us fish them out. They're also harmed by dragon bones. It weakens them and turns those corrupted back to normal. It's what Darcy hopes to use on Ilpholin. It doesn't alter to their presence, though." He rubs his chin. "I think one of the most likely places for the demon-corrupted people to be in might be AMEN, but it's also the place that's hardest for us to check."

[Planning Room]

A joke comes to Adir's mind about what a shame it is that Harnel's not single, but he keeps it to himself. "Do you think Ilpholin will be sound enough in mind to poke around at AMEN? I mean, that mental corruption thing must be hard to shake. Wonder if she'll see em' again and just... revert."

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"It's a possibility," Wenomir says glumly. "We're not sure just how the corruption affects the mind. And because of that, relying on Ilpholin for information about other corrupted people in AMEN is risky."

[Murkus]

[Planning Room]

"Hm. Well, on top of the demon problem, maybe it's time we got someone else into AMEN. To keep an eye on things," Adir suggests. And when he says things, he probably means Ilpholin too.

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

Wenomir shakes his head with a sigh. "Aren't about half of the people there spies at this point? In any case, we'll need to wait for the Ilpholin situation to clear up, one way or another, before we do anything about AMEN. The best case scenario is that she's cured and can direct AMEN's violent urges against the demons. The worst case scenario... well, there are several ones, I guess."

"Well, lets start with the worst-case then," Adir says. Always expect the worst.

[Morty]

[Planning Room]

"The worst-case scenario is that she doesn't get cured, stays a demon, ends up being influenced by them and adds AMEN to their forces," Wenomir says matter-of-factly. "In which case we'll have to fight her along with the rest of AMEN. Like in the good old days."

[Murkus]

[Planning Room]

"Yeah, uh, that one I already picked up on," Adir leans back in his chair, puffing out a sigh. "Phew. Gods, I really hope Darcy knows what she's doing."

"So do I," Wenomir says in a tired voice. "This is all such a mess."
