I was guessing that
SpoilerUnohana killed Kenpachi, then brought him back to life without him realising what had happened.

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
Yeah, the time Ichigo fought Kenpachi, we got three whole chapters titled "The Undead". I'm placing my bets on the pool which claims Unohana (at some point) healed Kenpachi from the brink of death and caused him to become immortal.

I suppose Unohana worked out the kinks of the process in the interim.

Oh! I know! I know why Unohana never fights, and why she's considered the strongest! Her Shikai lets her heal people. This is probably a feature of her zanpakuto of sorts. Therefor, a theory.
The things she attacks are healed for as much damage as she inflicts. Therefor if she kills someone with her zanpakuto, they are revived. This is why people are afraid. A virtually unbeatable foe, who can never kill you.

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
And now you know why Kenpachi x Kenpachi is... kinky.
On a grand scale, when thinking of a strategist aiming to defeat a group of others including Unohana, I wouldn't think it scary, but very inconvenient. On a personal scale? Scary as all heck, considering you can't get away and could get potentially infinite amounts of pain from her.Last edited by Morph Bark; 2013-01-24 at 03:59 AM.

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
Yha, that's generally the idea I was going for. Sure, on an army wide basis, she's an inconvienance, but each of those men in the army are going to be, individually, scared of her. That goes a long way, thanks to mob mentality.
Oh, also, I looked back at it. The bloor spurt when Unohana stabs Kenpachi in the head stays after "the vision fades", and she had no other mark on her face before that. So yha, I think this is 100% confirmed that yha, Kenpachi is some kind of immortal/Unohana can't kill people.Last edited by LaZodiac; 2013-01-24 at 04:12 AM.

Oh dear, I immediatelly had the idea for a bankai to such a shikai:
at first it's basically the same, with all the damage repaired. But the cells that replaced injured tissue will not stop there...
PS:

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
I'm fairly certain that the choice of weapon has no real effect on combat, just the comparative strength/reiatsu of the combatants.
If, say, Don Kanonji used the same weapon against Kenpachi he'd probably explode with blood and shatter the weapon while failing to even scratch Kenpachi's skin.
Someone like Unohana on the other hand could potentially slit Kenpachi's throat with a toothpick.

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
He's that wimpy medical squad member who everybody else picks on. He was a temp ally of the Good Guys during Soul Society arc, at least. I don't remember if he ever got any more screen time afterwards.
His zanpakutoh normally can't hurt anybody; it heals instead, I think? It's storing up all the potential damage until full, then he can unleash it all in a single blast. Thanks to Meirnon for the avatar

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
I have heard someone else with the idea before that Unohana's bankai could cause someone to have every inflicted wound open at the same time.
So if her shikai could cause her attacks to heal. If the battle went on long enough she could use her bankai, and all the wounds from that fight would emerge all at once.

Wait, which have been the most similar pairs of zanpakutoh abilities? I'm sitting here thinking that character design being the one thing that Kubo loves to do (...ok, in addition to drawing busty ladies), he wouldn't hit the low of recycling powers.

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
Rukia's zanpakutou freezes thing.
Hitsugaya's freezes thing, and is a dragon.
Aizen'smindslavevice-captain's zanpakuto shoots fire.
Old Man Genocide's shoots even more fire.
Byakuya turns into lots of mini blades.
Vice-captain Boobs turns into a cloud of ash that cuts wherever it lands.
So no, no recycling powers at all...

Re: Bleach VI: We Want Our Baby Bach Ribs (Aizen pull)
Well of course, but it proves that it's the quality of the user (Physical strength, which is an attribute that comes with increased Reiatsu. Strength, Speed, and Durability are all advantages of the finite, but large, pool of Reiatsu that Captains pull upon.), and the strength / make of the weapon in question would merely need to exceed the demonstrated level of durability to hurt them. Previously, there had been little to no explanation on how Shinigami would react to being hit by an artillery shell, or a lightsaber, and how the defenses of a Shinigami worked in respect to said attacks.
For instance, this proves that an atomic bomb of sufficient yield would be of suitable strength to destroy the Shinigami going by current durability feats.
I find it interesting for versus thread fodder primarily, I do a lot of math in regards to these things, and these showings like this provide in universe counters to no limits fallacies in regards to durability from Reiatsu from non Reiatsu users. Otherwise, it's a neat little way of showing that the 4th Division Captain doesn't mind fighting dirty, but I find it character shattering myself, I wouldn't call the current Captain the same character from a writing or character development stand point and these blind 360's are a problem I find all too commonly in anime, but by no means does this mean I dislike Bleach, merely that I find certain plot elements distasteful from a writing quality standpoint.Last edited by Fan; 2013-01-24 at 01:20 PM.
