Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
They are named on trading cards with mini-bio on blind bag. Seeing the colors/marks are identical with the show ponies, and on bigger toys even the images being identical, too, well...
Wouldn't that make them platypi, not equines?Come one, come all! GitP MLP Steam Group is open!

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Why on earth would you look at Hasbro toys as a source of show canon? Hasbro Toy naming is never a source of canon. The Transformers fandom in particular can tell you all about this. They have their own concerns, limitations and so on and precious little relevance to anything being done by other Hasbro departments.
They might do as stand-ins if the Fandom hasn't come up with anything better, but that's about it.
Edit - Close. It wouldn't make them Platypi not Equines, it would make them Monotremes. Equine Monotremes.Last edited by Tiki Snakes; 2012-11-03 at 08:23 PM.

I am now picturing a platypus pegasus.
The appropriate smiley for my current reaction is a ship between and .
I can't speak for The Great and Powerful Trixie, but, um, at least superficially, it makes sense to trust someone that's involved in getting the shows shown over the fanbase when one is trying to go for "official" material.Last edited by OracleofWuffing; 2012-11-03 at 08:30 PM.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
To be fair, you can tell they tried with this one. No less crazy than sparkely ponies.
Presumably, because a name is better than none?
Actualy, a question: would the term Bovi-Equine be a acceptible term for the local flavor of Indo-Europian langages?

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
You're about year late to that discussion. Especially ever since a pony created first as a toy, a year later appeared in show, complete with her toy name, speaking lines and unique character.
That ship already sailed, and it's plain where (after a lot of arguing, to boot...). Transformers have little to nothing to do with it being work of completely different people.Come one, come all! GitP MLP Steam Group is open!

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
I believe it was actually Dr. Hooves, to avoid any sort of conflict with BBC.
Consequentially the Derpy/Doctor ship has become that much stronger among the fans, even though I believe the show staff seem to be settling on Derpy Doo as her name based on the original script of the Smile song.Avatar based on artwork by Jabari Weathers

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
That was a timing issue (ironic, no?) in that the cards were made before Hasbro had named the pony and the fan consultants for the cards figured they'd never actually be allowed to use Dr. Whooves or Dr. Hooves. So they came up with Time Turner, thinking they were being witty, but then Hasbro and DHX went all crazy and actually named the pony Dr. Hooves.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Well its not like Dr. Whooves/Hooves/etc is actually more accurate.
What?
And Time Turner was always clearly just the pony equivalent to John Smith.
The real answer is the same in either case.
(Seriously they should totally be able to get away with it anyways, I've heard far worse. Akira Toriyama created a 'tsu'paman for Dr. Slump. He has a 'tsu' on his chest and everything)Last edited by Soras Teva Gee; 2012-11-04 at 12:05 AM.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Because it's somewhat pony related I don't feel terrible about posting this here:
Rod of Arcane Mount
This rod is a black iron bar with a quarter inch strip of silver around the center. When pulled the rod creates a somewhat horse shaped object constructed of arcane energy (It has the statistics of a light horse or pony except it is a construct and thus has no intelligence, constitution, skills, or feats as well as a wisdom score of 11 and a charisma score of 1). This construct cannot participate in combat and the user of the rod must keep both hands on the separated parts of the rod as well as concentrate as a standard action each round to sustain the construct. The construct appears to be a tron version of a light horse or pony with a single coiled spring instead of legs and hops along rather than moving as such an animal would normally move though this has no adverse or beneficial effects on its movement.
Moderate transmutation; CL 9th; Craft Rod, mount; Price 1,000 gp.

Gotta say, the image of a party of adventurers bouncing across the landscape on tron-ponies is hillarious.
Hi Ponythread! Been away for a few days. Did I miss anything? I think I saw Deadly's II fic on EQD, so congrats on finally getting that accepted.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Oh, a Demo is out? Neat. Does it have controller support yet?
Have to wait until I get to my desktop to play it. My laptop just gave me a dirty look when I thought to try it with her.
I'd like to think that, since this necklace was made from a gift ruby, Rarity would at least put it up on a nice display to always remember Spike's act by. And if not, at least it's a good central piece to help her sell her fashions.
Plus, helps to keep it handy come Spike's next birthday. Just in case. >_>
Exactly. Herd is a better structure than a military oganization for this fandom. I don't see why we need ranks for anything. We're all fans of the show.
I was understanding it as--
SpoilerFridge Logic: When something you watch breaks some in-universe rule or suspension of belief, but you didn't catch it until sometime after you finished watching it.
Fridge Brilliance: Something you view as not making sense or seems superfluous, but then makes total sense later on as more facts and events come into play.
I guess... its like what you said, just worded differently.
Hahahaha.... oh that is awesome. Worth the lateness.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
I always wonder why in these kind of arguments I never see anyone bring up the pegasus who has the same hourglass cutiemark (Sonic Rainboom episode).
Either cutie marks are recycleble or the pegasus is the master and we're jsut waiting for the drums...
You mean it's not obvious?

There's also Minuette, who is clearly Romana, and an earth pony in a top hat and collar who might or might not be the Valeyard.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Okay, so I have had it: I am going to write a fanfic. It's going to be a Fallout:Equestria sidefic.
Stop screaming.
In all seriousness , it should be decent. Probably. I have a plot layout and a idea what I am doing, so that should automaticly make it better than half the stuff on Fimfic. (Bada-ching!) But, considering that it's not only my first fic, but one of a type thats generaly known for bad writing, I thought I would drop the story discription here and quietly ask for responses and advice.
Fallout Equestria: Lost Cause
SpoilerPonies have the annoying tendancy to say war never changes. Honestly, I suppose the root cause does not, but I honestly doubt that every war caused a gobal distruction like what apperently happened in the last one. Ponies are foolish, and Zebras are no less so. Then again, ponies call Minotaurs bull-headed, but at least I can take a joke.
Welcome to Detrot, the one city that got less violent after the end of the world.

Re: Ponythread LV:55 Ponythread learns Agility!
Well the hourglass cutie mark is quite common if you look around. Depending on who you ask we've got a fair number of the Doctors, plus Romana (Colgate) and one other Time Mare who's in tied too.... I forget.
I think trying to make sense of every background pony appearance is the road to madness.
