I dunno, everything I've heard agrees that there's basically no adventure between G1 and G4 (exclusive). 120% of 0 is still 0, so FiM got well past the +20% mark in its first episode. Well, maybe the second; the most adventurous things in 1x01 were the various Calls To Adventure (the prophecy, the Mission from Glod Celestia, and the arrival of NMM), which are not adventures in themselves.

Just saw the Mystery on the Friendship Express . And .. you guys win. This is not a show for preteen females (as the 1980s version was). This is a GREAT show!

Seriously though, you should (find out more about this stuff). It's actually a pretty decent show, and the fans, especially this group, are a rather likeable group of people. I've rather enjoyed my time with them.

Well, Season Three does start in roughly three weeks. If you start watching now, you should have a steady supply of pony for at least the next few months. You might think that such a thing seems unnecessary, but believe me; pony deprivation is no laughing matter. I knew this one guy, he didn't get his pony for nearly a month. Poor man went nuts and held an entire Marshmallow Peep factory hostage with a rusty staple and a vacuum cleaner, ranting about how he used to wonder what friendship could be or some nonsense.

*ahem* Anyhow, welcome to ponythread, pendell and The Succubus. I'm sure folks will be around with the traditional welcome wagon gifs before too long. Even if ya'll don't like the ponies, feel free to hang out and/or lurk to your heart's content. Ponythread tends to talk about a surprising number of topics that are hardly related to ponies at all, and folks here are pretty awesome.

The Emerald City, specifically, from the books - it's really not as great as it seems, nor particularly emerald, but everyone who's there has green-tinted glasses locked on their faces. And Tambelon, of course, is the city that returned after, what was it, 500 years? to enslave G1 ponydom (and grundles and furbobs).

Knowing this thread, and considering how far afield we've wandered over the course of the long ponyless* summer, I can only imagine that missing episode 1 live will force me to read skip at least 10 pages worth of thread. Pinkie isn't representative of other ponies. She's just...Pinkie. She may or may not be an eldritch being that feeds on happiness though, depending on your character interpretation. There are a few lines in her Smile Song that I find a bit suspect.

All right, then! High time we had an actual science lesson in this here story. So listen up, y'all: before we start in on the tale of the single worst half hour of my life so far, we're gonna gab for a second about a little something called the Cloppler Effect. In your basic technical terms, this here thing describes the apparent variation in frequency of an emitted waveform as the emitter approaches or moves away from a fixed observer. When the object that's sending out a moving waveform is itself moving, it causes the waves in front of it to get all bunched up, a bit like driving cattle. As a result, your hypothetical stationary observer is gonna perceive them waves as coming more frequently, thus, at a higher "frequency" (see how that works?) Now, this becomes powerful important in the study of celestial motion, because a light-emitting heavenly body which is moving toward you will tend to shine out bluer than a heavenly body that's more relatavistically stationary, all 'cause blue light has a higher frequency, see? The Cloppler Effect applies equally well to an emitter giving off physical propagation waves (sound, e.g.), and the effect there is not blue-shifted light, but rather, a higher perceived pitch!

Um. Y'all.

Anyhow, long and short of it: say you're a pony, a normal, sensible earth pony with her hooves on the ground, just as Grower and Nature intended. And you look up in the sky, where – and I cannot stress this point too strongly – earth ponies ain't supposed to be, and you see a frazzled-looking orange-colored earth mare zooming across the sky on a cloud-scooter in your direction, clinging for dear life to the back of her blue barnstormer pegasus friend, and you happen to hear that orange pony screaming her fool head off in absolute spit-blind terror...

...well, just keep in mind that she ain't really screaming all high-pitched and sissybritches. She's actually bellowing in a real respectable and adult-like fashion. If she sounds like a panicked schoolfilly to you, well, that's just science messing with your ears. Blame Mr. Cloppler for that.
