Stern isn't exactly the brains of the Operation. She's Red Eye's top lieutenant and enforcer, but she's a Talon at the core; She wouldn't do something like that without express orders from Red Eye to do so. Further, she doesn't have any real reason to believe that the group actually cares about her enough to do something as hideously foolish as to blunder directly into Red Eye's home base.

    Stern is a bitch.

That's the plain and simple truth. She is a cruel, heartless bitch who loves to torture people and doesn't care about the slaves. You don't wanna know half the stuff she did in the fic.

So, her killing Eleyew was way more in character than her holding Eleyew hostage or using her for anything besides hamburger meat. Yeah, she might have had some value as a hostage, if the 'heroes' really did care about her. But the alicorns said Eleyew wasn't involved with Old Appleloosa, so she had no reason to believe the 'heroes' cared enough about her to warrant her survival.

Sure, Red Eye is probably going to be annoyed with her. But she's the second-in-command for Red Eye's entire operation and basically the de-facto Queen of the Slavers. She can kill pretty much whoever she wants to, and get away with it.

Eleyew made Stern mad. And you don't make Stern mad and live.

Yeah, I don't feel good about it either. But it's a decision I 100% agree with. Eleyew did two huge things wrong here:

    1) She talked to Stern as if they were equals. Including calling her the B-word after she'd just exploded a random slave. In this position, you act as polite as humanly possible, answer questions quickly and exactly, and don't say more than you have to. You don't repeatedly insult them, demean them, and act like they aren't about to kill you. This person is above you, you are below them, that is that.

    2) She was wasting Stern's time. All she needed to say was "I'm the relative of one of those involved" and she's valuable again. But she beat about the bush, talking about things Stern ultimately didn't care about, and insulting her to boot. And once the report came in that she wasn't at Old Appleousa, that was that. Time's up.

I don't like seeing characters go, but consequences are consequences, and it's not worth flank-pulling to ignore them.

I should probably also point out that I neglected to describe Eleyew's death in detail because I thought Dark Elf Bard might want to do so herself, or at least post Eleyew's last thoughts before her death. Once Bard posts her last thoughts/reactions/whatever, or if she doesn't want to do so, I'll post Stern's next course of action after she's sure the pegasus is deceased.

    -Energy Weapons (lasers, plasma, railguns)
-Heavy Weapons (minigun, missile launcher, fat man)
-Melee Weapons (knives, rippers, baseball bats)
-Unarmed (hooves, power fists, hellhound gauntlets)
Daggum it, I'm missing posts right and left today. >.<

The way I see it, Weapons Knowledge is more hooves-off than the associated weapon skills. If you had points in Guns, then you'd know the down and dirty facts about shooting guns. You'd know how to compensate for recoil, know to squeeze the trigger instead of pulling it, and how to reload quickly in the heat of battle. If you had points in Weapons Knowledge, you'd know the book-smarts information about weapons, but not much on how to use them. For example, you'd be able to examine the Kneecapper and tell what sort of enhancements the modifications give it. Or you'd be well-versed in various weapon-related myths ("I hear that this Soarin guy? Back in the war? He had this crazy, wing-mounted lightning gun...") and such. I picked it because I wanted Fleetwing to be a guy who is adept at collecting and finding rare weapons, but isn't actually that competent in their use.

...in fact, describing it like this, there's no way this would ever work as a Secondary Skill. Too broad, in both its applications and areas of effectiveness. So, yay! Knowledge gained!

    >_>

What I'm thinking of doing is using the Primary Skills to refer to the skills specifically in Fallout with a little bit of alteration to fit the setting. Those would be:

Armor, Battle-Saddle, Explosives, Fire Arms, Medical, Melee, MEWs, Repair, Science, Speech, Stealth, and Survival.

Of course there are also the race-specific skills like Flight, Weather Control, and the various types of magic Unicorns can pick up. Changelings get Faerie Fire (spooky green energy/cocoon goop) and Glamor (magic that alters perceptions usually in a subtle way).

Secondary skills cover specializations within Primary Skills. There are tons of different kinds of guns, energy based and otherwise. A character skilled with Fire-arms might be AMAZING with pistols and not so hot with rifles. That would be expressed in their second skills.

The secondary skills can be used to describe things a character knows how to do, but they aren't particularly amazing at. That would work much akin to the specialization above, except the pony wouldn't have the corresponding primary skill. Like, say, a pony might have First Aid as a secondary skill without Medical as a primary skill.

Secondary skills also cover specializations not touched by the standard Primary Skills. Cooking, singing, gambling, rare or unusual knowledge, interpretive dance...

So Weapon Lore or Historical Knowledge or what have you would indeed fall under the last category of Secondary Skills. Secondary doesn't mean something a character isn't good at. Depending on the context it can be something a character is GREAT but that thing they're great at isn't one of the common Primary Skills.
