"Digging through your stuff to find juicy secrets."

And yet somehow missing the cat. Rein would totally bring that up if he could.


He waits a few seconds to let that sink in before adding.
"Also visiting a friend who is sick."

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"You mean the fox girl who moved in recently? I haven't managed to talk to her yet. And I hope you weren't too disappointed by the lack of any juicy secrets," Sophie says, making no indication as to whether or not she believes Reinholdt.

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"Oh I'm sure they're there. Just got to find the closet."

"And yes, her. She was feeling ill, so I got her a glass of water and gave her something to help her sleep." Reinholdt says.

"What have you been up to lately? Besides shoveling snow?"

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"Not that much. I got myself a cat - which I'm sure you saw while rummaging through my room - and I'm considering adoption," Sophie says, in a perfectly conversational tone. Curious as to how Reinholdt will take it.

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

Reinholdt looks taken aback. "You... you replaced me?"

How could she?!

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"You're very nice, Reinholdt, but you're a bit lacking in the cuddliness and warmth department," Sophie says with (completely sincere) regret in her voice. "Don't worry though, you provide much better conversation."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"Hmph. I'm cuddly and warm." Reinholdt says, adjusting his vest closer to himself, even as he shifts down into a cat.

"I'll show you. I'll cuddle warm someone something fierce." Reinholdt says as he goes to wander out.

He doesn't get particularly far though, sinking into the snow.
"... Little help?"

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

Managing not to laugh, but smiling, Sophie tries to grab Reinholdt and pull him out of the snow.
"Somehow I don't think that was what you were planning."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"It's not my fault this place is cold and treacherous! Nature's just out to get me." Reinholdt pouts, but thanks Sophie anyways and sits on the steps for now, glaring at the snow.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"There was never a lot of snow where I grew up," Sophie says as she pushes some more of it away from the steps. "But I've got used to it by now. It doesn't mean I like it, though."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"It's alright, so long as its not deep." Deep for Reinholdt holds a different meaning most of the time though.

"You grew up on one of those earth variants, right?" I believe they discussed that in the past some time.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"On a variant of Earth that got all the monsters the other ones didn't want, yes," Sophie says. "In France, to be specific. It's a warm place."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"So you speak French."
...
"Or wait. Are we speaking French right now? Is Nexus Common secretly the code words for French?"

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"That's possible," Sophie says with perfect honesty. "Or maybe I speak French and the Nexus translates it to whatever language is most convenient for you. I wouldn't want to be a linguist trying to analyze this."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"Mmm... no, I think I'll just tell all the female cats I meet that I know French." Kissing at least.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"Be my guest," Sophie says. "I'm not sure if it'll work, though. Sometimes languages work normally, like when Tobias shows off his Latin."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"Yeah, but they don't have to know that." Silly Sophie.

"You been going to Tobias' latin classes or something?"

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"Not really, but he does like to show his classical education, doesn't he?" Sophie asks. "And quote Shakespeare, of course."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"He's not the kind to play dumb and be smart, certainly." Reinholdt says.

"So... adoption, huh?" Reinholdt stares at Sophie now.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"So you did pay attention to that," Sophie says. "Yes, I am considering adoption. I wanted to be a mother before all this mess with Messengers happened, and now that I've settled in here I figure I'm in the position to try again. Also a friend of mine adopted a child and they're very happy."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

Tobias might not be the type...

"I'm sure they are." Reinholdt replies quietly. "Were you considering adoption before the mess or did you want your own kids when you talk about being a mother?"

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"I wanted my own children," Sophie says with a sigh. "I was going to get married. But it all changed, of course."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"And now you don't?" Reinholdt asks.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"I would still want my own children. But to put it bluntly, I have no father material available," Sophie says. "Which made me consider adoption."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"I know I'm not one for normal life experiences or anything... but isn't that usually the point where people go looking for father material?" The cat asks. "I mean... I understand why you didn't back in France, but haven't things changed again?"

"...I think it thought you were an enemy," Jamie says sadly to Marty, frowning.

Marty looks horrified at the garnet. I d-didn't m-mean to! P-Poor thing...I...agh! W-What do I d-do?!

[Morty]

"I know I'm not one for normal life experiences or anything... but isn't that usually the point where people go looking for father material?" The cat asks. "I mean... I understand why you didn't back in France, but haven't things changed again?"

Sophie sighs.
"I'm honestly not sure if I could feel like I did about my old fiancè in France about anyone else. I would like to, but I'm not sure if I could. It's complicated."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"... You're worried about replacing him." It's sort of a question, but mostly a statement.

[Morty]

[Maple Cabin]

"I suppose I am," Sophie says, without any surprise. She's thought about it before and spoken to Julie about it as well. "I know it doesn't make sense, but that's not how feelings work."

[Reinholdt]

[Maple Cabin]

"Pfft. Who says it doesn't make sense? Robots who have never experienced the situation, that's who."
