Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
Not safe for work. Not safe for sanity. Not safe for life (you may well die laughing).

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
It is NSFW but only because I got partway through and had to stop for risk of bursting out laughing! I really want to roll up some characters in FATAL now just to see what it comes up with.

Good LORD this was hilarious.

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
I remember reading someone going through character creation on TV tropes, and that was hilarious enough.
As a side note, when I was initially typing this, I misspelled hilarious, and the suggestion given by Firefox spell check was . . . lecherous.
Take from that what you will.Last edited by Ravens_cry; 2013-02-20 at 05:43 PM.

I feel like my mind will be forever scared by the female kobold...
I love kobolds, but normally I could deal with kobold related death... And then this happens...

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
I can't even read more than a dozen pages of FATAL at a time without retching(sometimes it's the terrible mechanics, sometimes it's the utter detachment from reality, oftentimes it's the misogyny, sometimes it's all three.) Actually playing it never entered the question for me.

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
Yeah, I find even Hârnmaster's character creation mechanics to be so complicated as to be scared of even suggesting it for play to my group; FATAL is obviously inspired in large part by either Hârnmaster or Chivalry & Sorcery (an early D&D spinoff which obviously inspired Hârnmaster), only it's so, so much worse. So much...

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
After losing most of my sanity and humanity by serving Yig. I've come to accept F.A.T.A.L
as both horrible but enlightening as to when something is bad enough it can unite those of a group no matter there differences.
A group of D&D players that fight over editions will sit down and stop if told they must play F.A.T.A.L if they can't come to a solution

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
Oh, I have had multiple editions of the rulebook, and even tried to make a character once. (I just couldn't slog through it.) Even absent all the really offensive and stupid stuff, the rules and math are ridiculously bad (roll 4d100/2 -X where X > 2, but the end result must be higher than 1!), in addition to being completely wrong from a design point of view.
And I actually enjoy Hârnmaster character creation...
The similarities really are striking if you look at the rules, and F.A.T.A.L.'s pedigree either from HM or C&C is obvious. For instance, in HM you randomly roll your race, you randomly roll a birthday - although this determines a horoscopic sign that affects skills - and skill base values are determined as the average of three ability scores, then multiplied. (And a lot of elements in HM chargen are from C&C.)

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
Personally, I liked the comment further down in the thread where someone talked about a player whose character was forced to rape an orc by the rules.

Re: Someone did the unspeakable - they played FATAL
Not true there is plenty more horrid things to learn
The type of things that will make you scream in fear, rage, and then curl up into a ball and cry
Now if you want to keep your sanity then yes it makes perfect sense to follow the other advice and look no further
