Yet another example of why antimatter is very, very hard to use without totally knackering up the plot.

Not to mention that the bullet would annihilate upon contact with air. Or the barrel, for that matter. Thus killing the user except in perhaps the case of a god or something.


Now, a halfway sensible use of antimatter would be a cluster of particles suspended magnetically inside a bullet, where a vacuum could prevent it from annihilating until it hit a target. This also conveniently lowers the amount of energy stored within the shot vastly, making it halfway sane for use.

I think the important thing is to say "I use <attack x> that is likely to have <effect y>" when you do combat. Noodle's oxygen virus in AMEN is an example where this worked just fine. The idea of oxygen having DNA is nonsensical, but because he explained exactly what it did, everyone was able to respond to the attack.

If you just say "I use <attack x>" without naming the effects, and it's an attack that exists in RL, then people will tend to respond as if it had the same effects as it would have in RL. In the Louv're Tower scene, it just said that a guard fired an anti-matter shot.

Luckily, rather than assuming the entire thread just went kablooey, TE brought it to the OOC thread for clarification. Then a physics debate ensued, because, you know, geeks hang out here.

The virus is completely impossible in real-life, but in the Nexus it works...somehow. Admittedly, I know very little about virology. But, as long as you say what it does, it's fine. If a little bit crazy. But that's Newus. What Happyturtle said.

I think a particle beam might also be somewhat feasible? You'd have to create a vacuum within the barrel somehow, and even then it would annihilate the moment it hit the air outside, but the resulting energy might still be focused enough to aim?

Abandoned Motorway Community- Town Hall

There is no answer from within. On the desk is a plastic bottle filled with water, a chipped mug several broken pencils, a pencil sharpener and a box of matches. In the glove box of the desk is a pair of gloves, a bag of raisins, several parts from a pistol and a box of pistol rounds.

The body is that of a woman, quite young by the look of her, wearing a one-sleeved wool shirt and a leather skirt. The other sleeve, and her arm, is lying on the floor nearby. Around the wrist of her severed arm is an old digital watch with no display, and should the Adventurer search her he'll find a purple apple, a wind-up electric torch with an LED bulb and a crude knife strapped to her thigh.

Also, does anybody fancy encountering a D20 Artefact? I fancy dropping one somewhere.
