Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Oh yeah, I totally agree that posting to the faceless masses does "inspire" one to get on with it. Reminds me of a scale I once heard of that automatically tweeted your weight every time you used it.
As for Purple Tentacle's image, I originally thought the foreground stickman was standing on a cliff. Only later did I notice the buttons. I think your problem lies in that people con't bend in the middle of their chests, and the way the picture is set up it looks like the stickman is standing roughly at the base of the sternum. He should be more in the abdominal region, which would require some proportion/perspective alterations.
And flyingchicken, how did you do that face there? It look really neat, like it was carved from some sort of stone, like a diffused grain brownish porphyry.
On a side note, I spent a few minutes playing with the giant Wacom we have at work today. I have to say, I really like drawing on the more vertical surface in some ways, as well as directly on the screen, though one's hand gets in the way of the view a bit. I'm going to see if I can buy the extra nibs off them, since no one uses it (except as a second monitor), and they have some really fancy ones.

Don't be afraid to add some harder lines for the edges of angular structures like this, or at the very least watch your shading - the reason that wall looks like jelly is because the shadows don't change sharply or severely enough when the angles do.
That thorn plant looks rad though.

Heh, jelly wall. More contrast between light and shadow, got it. Noticed I forgot to merge one of the plants too, oh well.

Day 267:
Drew a (really bad) cake at work today at the behest of a co-worker, but didn't bother to consider it my sketch for the day. Instead I did this, the idea for which is of unknown providence. Interesting to do it though, working from the inside to the edges using only lines and some curves.Time: 30 minSpoiler

Day 268:
My GURPS campaign idea took a dramatic turn and morphed from Vitorian supernatural murder mystery into classic fantasy high adventure. To give myself a base, I decided to start with the Sunless Citadel, to see how things would go. And so that's what I drew today.Time: 40minSpoiler

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Nice painting, creepy avatar. I didn't know he was just wearing a mask...
I would like to toss out a drawing request to anyone who feels like drawing something requested!
I gots a pony OC named Honey Buns. She's a ninja from canterlot posing as a barmaid/barowner in a small town on the bay. It'd be pretty darn neat if I had a cool picture of her to go around with.
She's small, kinda chubby, has a short curly mane, fluttershy eyes, and has dyed her coat and mane brown. I'm not sure if her coat should be a darker shade of brown than her mane or not. Her eyes are blue. Her coat's true color is white and her mane's true color is yellow, kind of like Blueblood's. When it's night time, she goes running around in a ninja suit, hopping around rooftops and stuff. (The reason that she's still kinda chubby is that she eats too many of her own honey buns. x.x) Cutie mark is a bun, probably with powdered sugar and honey on it.
So, uh, yeah!

Yeah, I never understood as being a mask. It makes a lot more sense now.
I might draw a Honey Bun tomorrow when I have more time.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
....Arrrggghh. Theres some nightmare fuel. It would be fun if them hands were tented like Mister Burns or reaching out towards the viewer.
What is it about monsters/killers in masks? Michael Myers is just a guy...sort of but whack a Will Shatner mask on his melon and he's terrifying. I guess it's the mystery of the unknown. I saw a movie last weekend called Mama and the Spector got way too much screen time and the cgi was pretty average. By the end of the movie the Mama creature was more of a joke then scary.
Flyingchicken: Cool avatar design is there a backstory to its conception?
Had a bug(pun intended) up my arse to draw a simplistic Bug/Human hybrid character. Twas a tuff assignment, I'm no concept artist.

I like some things about this drawing and I might put some time into it to make it look better. Usually when I clean up images I don't like the results. Theres something about the original energy of the sketch that I love.

Neeeaaat. Thanks, madcrafter. ^_^
I'm falling over all these Honey Buns! @_@
Seriously, thank you, guys. I'm very happy with all this! You're all radical.
If I had to make any comments that weren't ENTIRELY POSITIVE, it's that she's perhaps not quite as curvy as she could be - but really, thanks a bazillion, Madcrafter and fc. You guys are really awesome. ^-^Last edited by Tectonic Robot; 2013-03-28 at 08:07 PM.

Gavelkind is Hard Mode.
P.S. Once you've got the hang of CK2 basics, try CK2+.
It's a mod that improves every aspect of the entire game and I never play without it.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Keep working those gestures they might seem kinda dull but they really help get you used to doing more dynamic poses and compositions.
I'm separated from my tablet and computer by about 1,500 km's so I'm exclusively using ipad at the moment though I do have a sketch book with me if I get the urge to feel pencil on paper.
Not feeling it lately. But Game of Thrones season 3 premieres today maybe I'll try and do some fan art. If anyone else likes the show and books might want to post their own Game of Thrones related stuff. Hmmmm???

I actually really like doing gestures, don't find them very dull (except the other day when posemaniacs gave me like 15 in a row without a single curve in the back to speak of).
Good idea, maybe I'll do something.

Re: Ponythread Learns to Draw II
Oh yeah the instructor from the god of many faces temple. I enjoyed those chapters in Braavos. You did a good job on the skull but I think some shadows would really help sell the mystery of this character. Good tips to take note from flyingchicken and thanqol.
I initially wanted to do a drawing of Cat of the canals hanging around the docks but went another way. Put 3 of my favourite Game of Thrones characters together, is it obvious who they are? Totally flaked on drawing the dragon overhead
Spoiler
Flyingchicken: oooh ooooh you should draw Butthole Surfers. Also the hype around thrones is a bit overblown but it is great at what it does, an engaging adult fantasy....
