The road to Viridian lies ahead, the winding dirt path flanked on either side by tall grass.

Hopping on his bike, he picks up speed as he goes along, not wanting to linger in any one area.

You bike hard, rapidly traveling.

Almost halfway to Viridian, probably three hours into your bike trip, you are just starting to tire. In this state you don't see the treebranch lying across the road and connect with it. Your bike flips, sending you sprawling.

You hear the chitter of Pokemon behind you; turning back you can see two small purple creatures edging towards you. Your bike lies a few feet away.

"Man, today is not my day..."

Springing up, he rushes over to his bike and in one motion stands his bike up as he sprints. Pedaling away, he doesn't even try to look behind him. He was not going to die the day he finally leaves this town, dammit!

You quickly pedal away. The rats give chase, but you quickly outpace them.

Soon you see the large walls of Viridian City. It is just beginning to get dark.

"State your business in Viridian!"

He arrives at Veridian, panting.

"Looking for...*huff*... business. Low on cash and was hoping to get a job somewhere.
Woulda got here before dark but I almost got eaten by rats."

He considered adding a 'sir' on the end, but there was only so much dignity he would give up.

"A job? Here? Well, good luck kid," the man says, ordering the gate opened a crack.

Upon entering Viridian, you can see the town is beginning to fall apart. Many of the buildings are run-down. The grass is brown and dying. The entire town seems suspended in some sort of alternate universe. Homeless folks crowd the streets of the once-proud city. With farms failing left and right, it's no wonder that the town is beginning to fall apart.

Getting pretty dark but...for the kind of people that he'll be dealing with, they may still be around.
Garrick heads for the address. He keeps a firm eye on the various homeless people, just so he doesn't appear to be not paying attention, but otherwise isn't very worried. If it was a bust tonight he'd just go back in the morning.

He looks down at the address, then back up at the gym.

Well THIS was new. Gym's were generally the last place to look for his line of work but...
Oh well.
He shrugs and knocks on the Gym door. If the person looks like they have any sway and werent some kid, assuming anyone answers at all, he gives the passcode "Speed of light".

Knocking simply has the door open. A man with a nametag reading "Jim Gui" greets you.

"Speed of light? Are you okay man?"

"He's with us," a man says, walking up, a large red "R" plastered to his chest. "Come with me," he says, walking towards the back of the Gym.

He follows the guy with the red R, nodding towards the guy who opened the door.

He keeps his eyes open, giving the room a good lookthrough. Might've just found a gym he actually had an interest in joining.

He keeps his mouth shut unless spoken to. Need to give a good impression.

The man leads you to the back of the Gym, where, after making sure nobody is looking, he presses a small button under a poster. A small door slides open, and he ushers you inside.

Within the room is a small desk and chair. The man takes a seat behind the desk, gesturing towards the chair for you.

"Now who the muk are you?"

[Anonyman]

"Garrick Romano. Some friends of mine said there was some discreet work I could pick up. I hear you need someone that fits my profile."

He keeps a straight face. No smiling, no nervousness showing (hopefully). Cant risk this chance. He decides to keep his words few.

"You're in luck," the man says, tossing a file down on the table.

"Farmer outside of town has been trashing Team Rocket. We need somebody to discreetly punish him. Set fire to his fields," the man says. "Team Rocket is a positive organization, and we won't have anybody saying anyways."

"Do you have a Fire Type? If not, we can supply you a lighter."

"Standard conditions. You're on your own. Paid ^1,000 upon completion of the job. If you're caught, you never knew us. You squeal, you die. This does not grant any sort of membership in our organization. I think that's it. You in?"

[Anonyman]

"Understood. Any extra intel you can give to help get the job done? And should all go well, would there be further opportunities available?

I have no Pokemon on my own, so I will need the lighter. I'll leave in a few hours, when I won't have to worry about city guards noticing me slip in and out."

[Arcran]

"Farmer has a Growlithe. Had the thing for years, so it's loyal. If it encounters you, expect trouble. His sons both have Poliwag. They're weak, but you may still want to expect trouble from them. Don't injure the Poliwag too badly; we want to send a message, not destroy all the food.

"You have no Pokemon?" he muses, looking at you. "I'll make you a deal. Finish this job in the next three days and we will supply you with your own Pokemon as well. Do we have a deal?"

"Ah, the Growlithe could be dangerous. I'll prepare better and hit it tomorrow night instead then. Gives me more time to scope the area and prepare.

He stands and gives a quick bow.

Nobody stops you as you leave the Gym; in fact, others are just beginning to leave as well.

A room at the Center costs ^50 a night. The accommodations aren't nice, but they work. A bed, a small bathroom, and an almost miniscule desk. But hey. It was cheap.

Taking what he can get, he crashes into the small bed.

Remembering the machine, he goes ahead and puts both the Dex as well as the holster and ball (he'd need to get rid of it somewhere...but might as well worry about that later) in his backpack.

He lets himself fall asleep almost instantly. With no exact time he needs to wake up, he decides to just let himself get up whenever the nearby noise rouses him, so he can begin casing the area and town.

You awaken to the bustle of the town and light streaming in your window. It seems to be about 8 AM according to the small wall clock you were provided.

He gets out of bed and checks himself over. His leg still hurt from the bike crash from before, but it was just bruised. Should clear up by the end of the day. Might as well get to work. Donning a red ballcap and normal white clothes, he leaves the Pokemon center to head for the shops. Of course he couldn't buy anything suspicious, but if he saw something that might be useful he'd look into it. Was too early in the day to go pretend to be joyriding on his bike while he cased the farm.

Actually... it was too risky to wander around town for the day. No idea who might be on the lookout for him.
He decides to go on a 'morning bikeride' instead. He makes a decent sized loop around town to lower suspicion, but makes sure he passes by the farm to get a good look at it. The more information the better. Plus he hadn't done anything wrong...yet. No reason to worry about suspicions too much while he gathered information.

"McGran's Farm" is plastered on an old weather-beaten sign. You can see acres and acres of corn growing, a few people patrolling the area with long spears and shields, eyes wary. They knew the risks of living outside the town, and they seemed well prepared. Nobody seems to have taken notice of you yet.

Wow. No wonder there were so many homeless. Food shortage was going to get worse if he gets this job done...

Oh well. Someone else's problem.

He begrudgingly eats a meal at the Center due to a lack of alternatives.

He looks around for any general shop that might sell something akin to a 'survival kit' that might help him get a fire going quick enough with his lighter that he can get away without being seen. The faster it starts and spreads the better. It wasn't like they wouldn't be able to stop the fire, but it still had to send it's message.
He also remains on the lookout for Repels, just in case.

You find a store called "Forest Wear." A small survival store, Forest Wear s a small family-owned organization. They pride themselves on their goods, claiming they can equip you to survive Viridian Forest. This claim has yet to be definitively proven. A small sign sporting a cartoon Weedle with X's for eyes adorns the doorway.

A few trainers are currently in the store.

"Should we pick up some Smoke Balls? Might distract the little buggers."
"Do you see how expensive they are? We can either get two Antidotes or one of those!"
"Alright. I'm grabbing a Pester Ball though. I've heard there are Beedrill packs starting to roam. That time of year again."
"Are you sure we should go through Viridian Forest? We could just wait for a caravan."
"This town is dead. I'd rather die from Weedle than stay here."

The clerk coughs, causing the trainers to turn, embarrassed, then resume shopping.

The clerk is probably about your age.

"Anything I can help you with? We're having a sale on Antidotes. Only ^250!"

"You talking in Viridian? I'm supposed to say 'Of course!' but honestly, against all those Weedle? Odds are that they won't really keep them off you. Especially if the rumors about Beedrill packs are true," the clerk says, shaking his head. "If it were most of the other Routes they'd work fine. Viridian won't do much other than scare a few larvae out of the hunting packs."
