With some indignance, he leaves. That could have gone much worse. Time to figure out where to go from here...
Garrick heads for the gym. He should probably tip off his previous employer if he sees him, just so he knows that they're still looking and that they weren't ratted out. Not to mention training the Ekans was still a priority.

You soon arrive at the Gym. There are a large number of farmers outside, apparently protesting the fire. They seem to want an audience with the leaders.

[Anonyman]

That's an awful lot of commotion. These farmers must not have any sense of danger if they think the Gym did it, why wouldn't they think their land would randomly get lit up as well?

Well, that was hardly his problem. But he did need to get in... Not that there was anything in that backpack worth keeping, as at this point it was just filled with incriminating clothes and a dead pokeball. However, he still wanted to train the damn Ekans. He slips around the back. Fighting his way through a bunch of farmers doesn't look like his idea of a good time.

Slipping around the side doesn't reveal overly much. When you circle around though, there is a small backdoor, a guard standing by it.

"Do you know the password?"

As you turn the corner, you see a large man, wearing a large metal helmet. He seems to be following you.

[Anonyman]

"Hmm, depends on how often your password changes. Actually, I'll just come back later when the protests die down to save everyone the trouble."
Not waiting for the guy, Garrick turns to walk away.

Really. He's already got the police on his ass and pretty soon TR would be too if he didn't get this all fixed. Now he has some random guy following him.
Well, information first.

Garrick begins to head opposite the way he came to circle around the gym, not wanting to run directly into the guy following.

As you turn to leave, the man in the helmet jogs up to you.

"Hey, kid. Got a minute? I wanna talk to you. Just talk, nothing else."

[Anonyman]

"....why are you wearing a helmet."
Well at least he could get one question out of the way.

Garrick gives the guy a raised eyebrow. This was...never a good sign though.

[Arcran]

"To hide my terribly disfigured face," the man replies. You can't tell if he's kidding. "Fire melts a man's features like wax. But I'm not here to complain about last night or point fingers. No, I'm here as a representative of Professor Oak." He pauses a moment to gauge your reaction. "I believe you have a Pokeball, not a Pokemon, just a ball, that doesn't belong to you. It contained a Pikachu, and the good Professor is requesting it back. The ball will only ever work on that Pikachu, and is utterly useless to you. If you set it on the ground and walk away, we both pretend this never happened."

Garrick appraises the guy. He obviously seemed pretty confident of who he was tracking at least.
If the guy went to the police he was screwed, as the testimony would likely land him in even deeper. He could try to lie his way out but...
Gah. If this was some kind of sting he'd be in deeper than he could ever get out.
"Of course I would never have any idea what you could be talking about."

He holds his hands up, and after looking around to make sure no one was listening, continues.

"But I did find an in-use Pokeball that might coincidentally be the one you want. S'in my room though, so unless you want to distract a mob of farmers, you'll have to wait until they leave."

[Arcran]

"What's wrong with the front door? That 'Mob' as you call them aren't going to attack random men trying to enter a building, right?" the man says. "I walk in with you, or I go in there myself and start asking questions inside. This can blow over nice and easy, or you can lead me on a merry chase until we're both ragged and raw. But you're aren't going anywhere alone." He sets his arms down and gestures for you to start walking as he follows you.

[Anonyman]

For the love of...
"Let's go ahead and get this straight, if I wanted to leave you in the dust right now I could. I have no use for a random Pokeball though, and for our best interests I was going to go ahead and hand it off.
Now lets move to politics. Those farmers believe that this gym and its affiliates are the cause of their trouble. Meaning a straggler trying to get in through them likely WILL have a good deal of trouble, and I don't much care for notice.
However, how about we put your theory to the test? You try to get in, and if they let you i'll come with. Then we both can be on our merry way."

[Arcran]

"Fine then. Let's go," the man says, says. Walking back to the front of the building and moves to enter. It probably takes a minute of pushing and shoving, but he eventually manages to shove his way into the building.

[Anonyman]

Well, the man was stubborn at the least. Garrick slips behind him, keeping in the whole he forms in the crowd.
"Well now, that works fine for me. My room is this way."
Garrick directs the man in the direction of his room.
"Tell me, Helmet, you're a free agent right? Are you looking for work by chance?"

The helmeted man lets out a low chuckle as he says, "After this pokeball is returned to Oak's care I am indeed a free agent. I'm capable in combat, do you have work that needs doing?" He follows you to the room.

[Anonyman]

"Well, I know somebody hiring at least. Muscle is good."
Reaching into his bag while still keeping it mostly zipped, he pulls out the Pokeball and tosses it to him. One less thing traceable to him.
"Do tell the old man no hard feelings. Business is business after all.
Everyone hates a person like me until they need my abilities."

He straightens up. Briefly he considers leaving the bag somewhere incriminating near that merc group to buy him time, but he'd do that later if he had to.
He gives Helmet the business card for the caravan guy.
"Bodyguard work for a caravan through the forest. You'll have to get details from him if you're interested. Not illegal, but plenty dangerous.
Now, Helmet, is there anything else I can do for you?"

"That is all that the Professor requested," Helmet says as he pockets the card. "If I have time, I will consider the job. Thank you for keeping this civil." He then turns and leaves.

Can I get a small description of the gym layout? Want to be able to stick out as little as possible, and see if Jessie appears approachable enough to not get thrown out for talking to her in the Gym.

The Gym, at least the main area, is primarily small dirt arenas marked off with chalk. The rooms are located in a loft-like system up above. There has to be at least thirty smaller arenas, with one larger one with a concrete floor in the middle, likely for more official Gym Battles.

There are about ten battles occurring. Jessie is hard to miss; her flaming red hard stands out like a sore thumb. She seems to be instructing some sort of younger trainer with a large red R, likely a Team Rocket member, in battling.

Taking a spot nearby, he watches the training, attempting to learn what he can. He waits for them to finish. Chances of her helping him would be rather low if he attempted to butt in.

The trainer who Jessie is helping has obviously just caught this Pokemon; it constantly turns back, snarling, only to continue to try to work when it looks at Jessie, as if seeing something far more terrifying than just a Gym Leader. Her hands rests on a whip at her side as well.

Good, good. Now make it Bite, she mutters, pointing at some sort of dummy for practice.

The Trainer relays the command. Instead of relaying the command, the rat rushes across the arena, leaping with fangs barred at its trainer.

The rat is sent flying, and Jessie is now holding the whip. A long streak runs across the face of the rat, blood starting to ooze out.

The rat, once a small vicious creature, is reduced to a shaking wreck on the ground by Jessie's savagery.

You're not going to get much work out of him today. Get some Premium Healing, on the Gym this time. We'll try him again tomorrow.

The rat tries to protest against the beam, but Jessie seems to have made it impossible for the little creature to protest.

The trainer nods, thanking Jessie for her time, and heads off to the Pokemon Center.

Happy to help, Jessie says as the young trainer walks away.

She seems to be about to leave, likely for some Gym Leaderly duties. If you want her help, you better grab her quick.

"I have a fresh Ekans and heard you were the best person to ask about training them. Would you teach me the basics to training one?"
Hoping that his voice isn't easy enough to be memorable, he keeps his posture straight and eye contact. This lady was way out of his league. He had a feeling if she was the one interrogating him instead of that policeman she would have made it a lot farther.

Taking out the Pokeball and backing up, Garrick tosses it out.

The snake hisses angrily as it materializes from the beam of red energy. It starts to slither towards you until Jessie glares at it, snapping her whip. The snake hesitates, wary of advancing any further.

This is one of ours, isn't it? Jessie asks curiously.

"Yes. Part of payment for a job that needed doing. Hopefully I will be able to work with Team Rocket again in other branches should the need arise."

He watches the snake with interest. Once this was trained, his possibilities increased drastically.
"So, how do I begin?"

Well, we're having a charity ball this evening for the rich folks around here. I'm sure you could help at that, Jessie says with a wink.

I'd suggest telling it to do something before it does something foolish. Simple words. These things aren't very smart, she says, whip bouncing slightly at her side.

"I'd be up for it, but unfortunately I've drawn a bit too much attention around here. Growlithe noses are more impressive than I thought. Wouldn't want to stick around and risk mine or anyone else's business."
Well, hopefully Jessie knew about the going-ons of her own Gym.

Nodding at her words, Garrick points at the same training dummy as he saw the trainer before using. Speaking with a firm voice, he yells out to it,

"Attack!"
