Repeatedly? Roy only called it that in a off-hand comment. It will only confuse people.

Roy called the devil "Spiky" three times that I count. It's as good a name as Shlubbo Noname-Zaki in my book (though I'm aware that he is a joke).

You could compromise: "Durkon's Barbed devil aka Spiky" or "Spiky the Barbed Devil". Another consideration is that since he appeared we know that Durkon is not really Durkon, so the old name does not fit as well.

So, back when strip 800 came out, Wrecan expanded the number of characters who got smilies in the OP from 30 to 40. He said that when we reach strip 1000, he would consider changing it so that the first 50 characters have smilies in the OP.

Now that we have reached strip 1000, what do y'all think of that idea?

An idea occurred to me: if Wrecan reaches a certain amount of appearances, perhaps the OP could start using him as the baseline for having a smiley? 19 seems like a good number if he gets there, since 17 and 18 are so crowded.

If you do decide to add more smilies, there are smilies available for Ho Thanh, Banjo, etc., all the way down to Girard at Yukyuk at 14 appearances.

Andi, the party's horses (and donkey), and the aforementioned Spiky are currently the only characters with equal or more appearances than Wrecan who don't have smilies. Four more appearanes for Wrecan will put him ahead of all of them.

If people are going to start tweaking the rules, I have been wondering for a long time whether the entry requirement for the "major characters" block will need to be raised one day. If so when would that be? My reasoning is that the monster in the darkness and above are very likely to return, but Thog and Miko less so.

Where the line is drawn doesn't really matter, they're arbitrary numbers, but I don't think 'likelihood to return' is a very good metric to use for determining whether or not someone is a 'major character'. We're not going to see Nale or Miko again, but they were huge parts of the comic. We're almost certainly going to see Felix and Andromeda again, but they're (as of yet) just not that important.

Agreed. I don't think it needs to be changed: as the comic grows longer, it has room for more 'major' characters.
