Well what's a Hand without a head?" Joffrey's cruel laugh echoes off the silent walls. "That was a joke, my Lady. You should laugh. Laugh."

"Ser Rampart, I don't think Lady Sansa has had a good enough look at her father's rotting head. Pick her up."
The spikes are on struts that place them about 5ft beyond the battlements where the group is stood. The space between them and the curtain wall may as well be empty air.

OOC: This is another difficult one. On one hand, Rampart would want to refuse. On the other, actually doing so would only anger Joffrey - making things worse for all involved.

Fun fact, the lowest possible roll on that will test would have had Joffrey taking a little fall of his own. The highest acquiescence. With a middling roll Rampart will do his best to defuse the situation non-violently. I didn't expect to be risking destiny points this early in the game, but I guess that's the price of building a character with no self-preservation instinct.

IC: Rampart tries, and perhaps succeeds, to keep a neutral tone. "No. You have more than made your point, your grace. Further cruelty does not reflect well on you, and your presence is required at court. There are many petitioners awaiting an audience with you, whose concerns you must be aware of in these troubled times."

Siezing the last moment before the young king's shock turns to rage, he concludes quickly. "Until your Lord Grandfather arrives to take up his office, it is up to you to see to the duties of the throne."
Insanity is checking the IC twice and expecting a different result.

"Because the Smallwoods and the Arctiums will hole up in the little forts and we will take them before they can join with their liege. We will not take Riverrun quickly, and so my son will lay siege to it to begin with, whilst we remove any Houses that are still to join their forces to the Tullys. They will not march whilst Ser Gregor ravages their lands, and if we are lucky, we may well find some ride out against us, to their doom."

    Lord Gregorious Felgraiv

    Spoiler
    Show
"You may pass then," the watcher answers, though there is doubt in his voice. "But stick to the roads. Some of my men will accompany you to see you don't get lost."
True to his word, as Gregorious continues on his way, four men stalk the Felguard and one rides with the Lord of Fellspire. Another mounts up and rides far ahead of the group, obviously carrying word to Drakhall.
The countryside is quite bleak, with a only a few fields and no farmers in sight, but Lady Veyth's lands are not prosperous, nor even very large. No wonder she fears such a party of armed men.
Approaching the hill on which Drakhall stands, Gregorious looks up to see a stone hall, almost a castle, crouched upon the crest, with an outer wall and a small town around it.
Riding in, they are greeted by a knight and a number of men at arms who ask for the weapons of Lord Gregorious and the Fellguard. "We'll allow no armed man within Drakhall, not before the Lady. Some of you may keep your weapons if you wait outside."

    Jaime Prestorhill

    Spoiler

The men arriving with the Mountain that rides are a motley sort, yet even after he has filled the courtyard with his brigands, hundreds camp out on the plains. There are a few knights out there, and small lords as well to make up the numbers, but most seem to be Clegane men. Jaime estimates that there are nearly two thousand men all told.
The green levies of House Prestorhill at least manage to look the part however and no comment is made on them.
Ser Gregor dismounts from his monstrous stallion and approaches Lord Janos.
"Right, my lord, where's the feast?" Not one for courtesy or courtly words, the Mountain dispenses with any niceties.

Joffrey turns towards Rampart in shock. "What would a bastard know of the duty of Kings?" But despite his venomous words, he does not press the point and steps past Rampart towards his other knights. "I don't want to hear about the peasants. Let's go to the training yard."As the others fall out Sandor Clegane grabs Sansa by the arm and Rampart is just close enough to here the man's words: "Don't go against him little bird, just do what he says."

    House Lyre

    Spoiler

Silverfox Hall buzzes as the two parties gather themselves. Cid Sand, and the young nobleboy riding behind him one of the more unusual sights: a bastard soldier, not even a knight, with a squire? And a noble man at that! Following Lord Tywin's instructions, they ride north towards the Golden Tooth. They arrive at the Lannister camp after about 6 days of heavy riding, where a large number of banners flap on the winds. House Marbrand and a number of Lannister lions as well as many of the notable houses of the West.
Finding a place to encamp his men, Cid must decide what to do next.

The Old Lord Grimewater gathered his bannermenn yesterday; they held a feast in each others honour with much praise and laugh. Al in all it had been more of a family reunion than a war meeting. All of their families was there exept from Lord Lucas second son. He was away on business that had been kept secret from all but Old Lord Grimewater. If anybody asked they reacted with something in between anger and wrath, and it was not often they let themselves even get angry. Today however was not such a day. This was a day for sorrow and to kiss the ones that lives to die. All of the armies as marshalled and they were all marched I columns to the two rivers that split their houses from the area around. Lord Lukas was to hold the northern part and Lord Thomas was to hold the southern river. They took on their plates while at horse before they listened to several figures speaking about unity and kinship. It was a touching speech and even some of the hardened elites was touched. That was all there was time for before the soldiers se out to protect the borders while the maids made ready for the great feast that would come. Their hope was that the Umbers would arrive, they had in common a little giant blood, and more importantly they had nothing but awe for the Umbers.

Further south Emir continued his journey. He will come to several small lords on his way and he asks them all for tidings from the wars that may break out. He decides to make a stop for a couple of days in Bendhall to let his poor horse rest and he may visit the people there to. It will be a welcome break from the prolonging ride towards kings landing.

For the DM and members of House Lyre.

    Spoiler
    Show
Cid disliked the Riverlands. It reminded him too much of another bitter war, the same outrages. There was even a dead Stark, and there were perilously not enough of those. He had no personal love for the Lannisters and his house, but he had a duty to Jacelyn to make sure that his loyalties were represented.

Taking little Jaime aside, Cid said to him: "We are now going to speak for your house, little master?" You're ready for this, aren't you? In a couple years you'll be a man grown." Cid smiles. "You are your brother's heir, and trueborn besides. Be courteous. Also, pay attention to the war councils... there's a lot you have to learn before you can be heard as a peer of the realm."

Cid puts on his splint mail and his longsword, and a great shield bearing the arms of his lord's house. He takes out Jaime's best surcoat and asks the servants to wash him and dress him appropriately for the occasion. He suggests his forces to make themselves comfortable and to prepare for a long campaign before making his way to the other lords.

You should probably but things in bold if you want a house to know that you are suddenly visiting them. In this case House Arctium.

    Lord Rede Crow

    Spoiler
    Show
"Thank you for rephrasing my plan as your own, Lord Crow. There will be a war with the Starks, and not one won quickly. I intend to remove the Riverlands as a threat, and I intend to do it quickly. Jaime will take Riverrun, whilst others take the southern Riverlands. And that is your duty. Ser Gregor will march North of Riverrun and continue his pillaging, and Lord Roland (Crakehall) will lead you. Lord Rede, you will be his second in command. You will ride with us as far as the Golden Tooth, before marching onwards. This is the time to make your plans." the other lords nod, and Crakehall smiles at being given the command, though with so many men it is perhaps unsurprising.

"Of course the Lannisters assist the crown, though it would be indiscrete to speak of those arrangements. But Lord Tywin has to raise an army of his own, and the crown always needs more men. Now a man such as yourself, with ambitions, shall we say. Well, you might see this as an opportunity. I need men of resources, and so does the new king."

    House Thyme

    Spoiler
    Show
"Then you should write. House Tully will take such an excuse I believe, especially when you are so young, and our men would listen to myself or another. Being sick only buys you time- it is up to you what you do in that time."

    Cid Sand

    Spoiler
    Show
The pair head to the central pavilion and enter to find the lords at their war council. Ser Daven Lannister is there, and Ser Kevan Lannister, as well as Lord Marband and a number of other notable Lords and knights. The Lyre boy is easily the youngest by a number of years, and men frown when they see him enter, with a soldier they cannot recall.

    Gregorious Felgraiv

    Spoiler
    Show
Gregorious and Drakos enter, and are escorted to the Lady's Hall, as it is called, a long feasting hall where a number of hardy Northeners stand about, Lady Veyth's guards, as well as her household and the Lord Turrel, with his eldest daughter, Joanette. The Lady Veyth welcomes Gregorious, though stiffly; "Welcome my lord, Felgraiv is it? It is, well not a pleasure, but certainly interesting to meet our neighbour for the first time." The woman is elderly, over fifty certainly, but still firm, as she must be to still retain nominal control of her House when she has three living sons, all who are knights and who each stand around her.

Karl is unable to avoid a twitch of an eyebrow at the fact that his lord was choosing a disreputable escort, but his oaths of fealty did not include backtalking and questioning his lord's logic. At least, not where such dissent was visible - he'd seen what happened when you let the disunity in the ranks show, it was how he'd taken over the Silverhill outlaws.
    "Of course, milord."

He'd not been able to divert many official funds into arming House Lyre's unofficial levies in the form of his old band; indeed, a disproportionate amount of his band's equipment budget had funded his splint armour. Nonetheless, the outlaws still recognised their tyrannical leader, and it was fear as well as opportunism that led those he hand-picked to follow him back to Silverfox Hall. Eight were stocky, brawny thugs, like Karl himself in miniature, with crude axes and bludgeons reliant on their strength, and an assortment of slight variations on ring mail; one of these had the questionable honour of carrying Karl's tower shield, the giant himself preferring his much smaller battle shield for day to day events, while another carried his spare flail (and none carried the two ball-and-chains hanging from his belt). Four were rather less armoured, and of those, two had traded their melee instruments for bows.
"I assume you will be providing horses if horses are needed... milord?" Karl said, when his force was assembled in the courtyard. Horses weren't an easy thing to keep, so most of the outlaws were rather lacking in that area.

Jacelyn looked over the assembled sellswords and general ruffians. They certainly did send a message, which could be useful. That wasn't why he had requested them though. He had requested them as his escort because they were the least likely to be missed by his liege.

"Horses won't be necessary, Beechwood grove isn't far off." Despite his statement Jacelyn has brought his own Courser for the trip. It is the privilege of the nobility to ride to where they can easily walk. Spurring the horse into a slow walk Jacelyn smiled and said. "Now that everyone's here there is no point in waiting, let's go."

Acorn Hall is further to get to, but much easier, and is between Riverrun and Bendhall: from there it will be easy to cut House Arctium off instead of finding that the Smallwoods had escaped whilst they lay siege to Bendhall first. Rede also realises that to lay siege to Acorn Hall they will need some siege equipment, for its walls are large enough to be an obstacle: ladders etc will be required.

"Pardon me, Lord Crakehall," Rede begins, marking the appropriate areas of the map as he goes. "But, while Bendhall is indeed closer, it is much harder to get to, due to the terrain, and will take more time to get there. It'd be much quicker to take Acorn Hall first, so that the Smallwoods are not able to escape, which would also isolate Bendhall from assistance. Acorn Hall will need some form of siege equipment to take, however..."

"What?! Has he gone senile!", Ermese utters, jumping outof her bed with a curiously red colour in her face. "They can't possibly do that, of course the Starks are crazy, they are northerners, but this can only mean war. If they do that they will be crushed, Hoster joins them because Ned was his son-in-law, but no one else will try, there is no power that can match Baratheon and Lannister, and we are right in the middle of it all. I can understand the Starks, Ned's son is what, fourteen? Those boys can be rash, especially when you kill the father. But Hoster has finally lost it when this is true.

Unless they planned this from the start, if Ned sacrificed himself and the Starks have hidden allies who will spring into action, but who? Greyjoy knows what a lost rebellion is like and won't try it again without good incentives. The Tyrells could have conspired with them, they might arrange a marriage or something like that, the same goes for Dorne. And the Vale has cause to join such a rebellion as well, they are closely related to the Starks.

Gather our forces and put them on a war footing, move the supplies to the more defensible places and put them under guard. For now we remain here, as I am clearly unable to travel. Please write your father to do the same, and ask him to send some of his infantry here, we are understrength at the moment. And we have to seek confirmation of this through the ravens. "

More to the point, why do we need to join with the Stark's main force? With their permission we could create a contingency purely from our own men, the increased independence might enable you to dedicate more men to the fields, I have already had a letter sent on behalf of myself in order to divulge the Stark's plans so we would already have the means by which to ask this of the Starks."

He had thought Joffrey beyond all reason. He had been proven wrong, at least to a point. What did that mean? Could he be redeemed, still? The thought unsettles Rampart.

He trails behind his king and sworn brothers, turning to the girl. "I am... sorry you had to see that, but Sandor has the right of it milady. Never give the Queen or his grace reason to doubt you, and things will go easier."

His eyes shift to the disgraced Warden, and he feels a pang of sympathy for the man. Whatever he and his wife had done, his daughter's presence had added a particular tragedy to his execution that haunted Rampart.

"Come." Rampart waves Sansa towards the stairs. "Let me escort you back to your quarters. You've had enough for today."

"Respectfully, milord, there is one thing. I have a warhorse in the stables of my own, and I'm sure you know how much better I can do my job astride it, milord." With that in mind, unless specifically stopped Karl picks up his rounsey at the stables, mounting it the same way as his lord. A courser or destrier was most typically the province of a noble, as such steeds, while clearly better in their ways than a rounsey, were inferior in other ways and far harder to acquire besides. Karl would have a harder time replacing his backup weapons than replacing his horse, and this in no way implied it was unfit for purpose - and besides, there was no point in such a man trying not to stand out.

The thought that this also made it a lot easier for him to dishonourably flee if everything went south did not actually occur to him until after he'd made his case, but anyone with the wits the gods gave an aurochs could work out that utility in short enough order.

    Lord Jacelyn and Karl

    Spoiler
    Show
The party is not an impressive one, and Lord Jacelyn's mongrel party certainly earns him some exclamations from his people as he passes from Silverfox Hall.
Jacelyn dimly recollects the way, and they make it to Beechwood grove in good time, arriving in the early afternoon. A rider hails them and soon men in the white and gold livery of House Rowan appear, all mounted and carrying hardened spears. Lord Matthis rides at their head and approaches Jacelyn's motley entourage.

    Lord Rede Crow

    Spoiler
    Show
Lord Crakehall looks stricken when Rede effortlessly and politely picks holes in his plan, before it is even fully realised. He nods, looking abashed, whilst Ser Addam joins in: "Wood could be sourced from around Acorn Hall easily enough, we'd only need ladders, but we must make sure that we have work parties prepared to set about construction as soon as we arrive. Perhaps whilst they work, others could be sent to light the fields?" Ser Addam's suggestions seem tactically sound, and the discussion continues. Lord Farman, a cautious man, ponders: "And what do we know of the strengths of either House? It has been long since I have travelled to the riverlands. What force can either house boast?"

Lord Turrel blusters, but Lady Veyth stands, draws a knife and slams it into the table for emphasis. "Thank you, Brandon. Now, Lord 'Felgraiv', you must know that he asks good questions. What is the point of a reserve force so far North? Even if it was tactically sound, it stinkks of cowardice, and of shirking your duties to your liege lord. You may be knew to this, but we are the Stark's bannermen, and we rise to their call."

"Now let's try again. How can we work for the betterment of the Starks, to the best of our ability, and by working together, send them the most support?"

    Spoiler

Choose a disposition towards Lady Joanna Veyth, she just attempted to "Convince" you back. She is 'Indifferent'.

    Ser Rampart Stone

    Spoiler
    Show
The future wife of the king was certainly worthy of a Kingsguard's protection, and none of the others blinks as Rampart escorts Sansa back to her chambers. For the whole journey she keeps silent, and it is only after she has stepped into her room that she turns and answers: "Thank you, ser, for your intervention today. It was most noble."

With all that settled, he still had a couple of things to manage. He had 200 golden crowns left I his coffin and as always, using coins in wartime is very favourable. He soon has gotten his master to send different falcons to places where it would be good to have a couple of gold coins in,
(I roll for that as micro economics is neither one of my strong sides and this is roleplay not wallstreet god dammit)
He Also set his remaining garrison that did not get used to scout the borders of the kingdom. He sends them (one household guard of his brother Blue rock trained garrison) with his last brother to clean out the borders for criminal scum, last month a caravan had been attacked near white roc, that would be the best place to start.
His son is learning with him to manage the household and finances as that is always good for a lords son to know. He also sends out his bastard son with a small retinue ( probably just two old outriders that was found too old to join the warhost) and puts them with Ricard Rivers to greet the lords from the north and to act as a guide.

    Spoiler

And a quick summary: my lord will work economics With his oldest and NeXT oldest son and also invest two hundred gold.

his last bannerlord will use his armed forces to Chase some of the bandits off my Field.
    (4d6)[14] (warfare)
and His bastard son should probably hurry to greet the Northerns welcome.
probably no test, but feel free if you think otherwise

Goren thinks for a moment and lets a smile flicker across his face. If he's asking me for my experience, instead of out of desperation, he might finally be learning.
After a few more moments of thinking, he settles on the strategy he'll use.
"Well, m'lord, Hoster's a practical man. The first thing I'd do, were I representing your little lordship, is to swear fealty. You should take the weirwood arrow. It's been with our house nigh on a hundred years and represents all you could hope to say. It says we understand the price for rebellion and we entertain no such thughts. An arrow without a bow to drive it is no threat."
Realizing that this might take a while, he sits down and pours himself a glass of wine.
"Would you like all this written down, lad? It'll help you practice it before you get to court."
Goren sends one of the guardsmen to Maester Athon to gather quill, ink, and parchment.
"The arrow gives you an advantage in the conversation to follow. If you're lucky, he'll ask why you use it. This is an excellent starting place to talk, quietly, about the sparseness of our troops. Explain that you use an arrow instead of a sword because the only men you could possibly offer, aside from our garrison, would be a single unit of archers. He'll likely come to the conclusion that letting us keep the men to protect our lands from westerling raiders is a safer choice than calling them to fight under himself."
He sits and stares for a moment.
"What else do you think you'll need to know?"
