Imperial Destiny (A Creative Writing Project)

I just started a long-term creative writing project set IN SPACE called Imperial Destiny. It is hosted through my blog so I can have better control over it (and if I wanted to take down the whole thing I can do so without deleting it all)

Anyway, I appreciate your comments. I do not know how often I can post pages, but I will try to do so on a regular basis.

Not bad so far. Seems fairly typical, possibly even cliché at parts though: is it intentional?

Also, we know literally nothing of the Preezar thus far: when will we learn of them? Next chapter? Is it spoileriffic?

And finally, I'd like to spread some of the word of this website across the vast gulf of insterspace: take only what you want, if anything, from it, but I enjoy some nods to hard sci-fi.

Fair enough, although I still think a little more exposition about certain things would be good.

Working on page five which will promise some exciting firefights.

In one corner, two cruisers and a destroyer that is dead in space

In the other, a few dozen starfighters and a wounded frigate.

Can our desperate defenders hold off the invaders until help arrives, or will our protagonist feel the cold chill of space?

After a brief interlude so that the writer could move and get some stuff packed and then unpacked, Page 6 is now up.

Some interesting space opera. I like the feel of an old gunlaying warship from this last page. A few minor quibbles, but the story overall seems good. I'd put a little of the description of the ships in a little earlier, and a couple of details are a bit redundant or irrelevant. It's good, overall.

I'd like to second the recommendation to at least check out the Atomic Rockets website that Doorhandle linked to. It's great. Though you can't unread it once you read it. You'll be permanently stuck in hard (or at least barely mushy) sci-fi from that point on

Im Finding it difficult to be descriptive and keep it short enough to stay readable in serial format.

I will look into that story. I have been so busy with work and school i have had little time to read or write.

A piece of general advice: go back through and look for adverbs. They're almost always unnecessary. That's something I learned in my creative writing class last year. If taking out the adverb would substantially alter the meaning of the sentence, leave it in, but otherwise get rid of it. I didn't notice it much here, but it might be worth looking at.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I plan on going through and editing at some point. I reread pretty frequently and find a lot of mistakes and things that I need to clean up, but that will probably wait until the end of chapter 2 at least. I feel that if I spend the time cleaning up now, I won't get anywhere interesting in the story.

And this is starting to get interested.

BTW, Page 11 for your enjoyment. A short page, but with a bit of exposition.

I hope to soon be able to do some skethces/drawings of the vessels. I am a horrible artist, but I think it would be a good exercise to improve that skill as well.

While I haven't had a chance to update yesterday or today (and I do not think I can tonight, bu we will see), I'm proud to say that Imperial Destiny page 1 has had over 100 unique views. I know that doesn't mean 100 people have read it, but it is nice to know that more than a couple people have read it. It is very encouraging.

And since the counter I was using only counts people who have navigated to the page itself, not just the blog in general, that number could be higher.
