I'm on it. (It's been a while, I'm a little rusty)

The bagel was invented in Krakow, Poland, in the early 1600s as a competitor to obwarzanek, a lean wheat flour bread used for Lent. The first mention of the word bajgiel can be found in the "Community Regulations" of Krakow in 1610. Askthepizzaguy, according to these regulations, bagels were originally given as gifts to someone who had what medical condition?Last edited by Penguinator; 2014-04-26 at 12:06 AM.

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
While the bubonic plague is most famous for the outbreak prior to the 1400s, (The "black death") there were several additional outbreaks lasting well into the 1600s. Bagels were given as gifts to those who had been infected with the bubonic plague, in the hopes that they would get better.

Though here is some convincing evidence, I will have to say that they did not give bagels to peole with the plague.

Dung! While the bubonic plague was around in the 1600s, bagels were used as gifts for women in childbirth.

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
The song "Cabin Fever" is perhaps the most well-loved song from the movie "Muppet Treasure Island." In this film, the role of villain Long John Silver is played by none other than the illustrious Tim Curry. Silver leads a mutiny against the Muppets, but eventually surrenders honorably when it is clear that no one is on his side. Spared due to their friendship, Jim Hawkins allowed Silver a longboat which would return him to Treasure Island. After the credits, it is revealed that Silver is left marooned with just one other "person" for company. banjo, who was Long John Silver's only company at the end of the movie?

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
"Cabin fever? I don't have cabin fever? No way, I have definitely not been stuck in this box for days, and I most definitely am not morbidly afraid of leaving. The box, it has sides, but the sides are invisible! Air! I'm running out of air!"
Banjo sinks to the floor, then starts to cough. When nobody seems to care, he gets up and sits on his chair, looking rather sheepish. Better than looking wolfish, at least on this forum.
"Oh, Muppets Treasure Island, I've seen that one. Good film, but not quite Muppets Christmas Carol. Easy, it's a weird Easter Island head type-thingie that's fond of particularly bad jokes. A Moai head, I think it's called."Last edited by banjo1985; 2014-04-28 at 03:00 AM.

I have no idea what either the question or answer are referring to. So, I'll trust the coin.

BZZZZZZZZTT! Long John's friend was indeed a Moai Head, A.K.A. an Easter Island Head.

And since it has been brought up, it is true that it's completely booooring to have these fast games. Please, try to spread the love around, and not go for the quick win. There is no prize involved in winning. But it's up to you, of course.

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
Proposal:
Players could agree not to claim a square that could result in a win for either side until there are no other squares to choose from.
Or, less extreme, agree not to pick a game-ending square until the other player has chosen to do so.
These would be non-binding gentleman's agreements which are entirely unenforceable.Last edited by Askthepizzaguy; 2014-04-29 at 10:20 AM.

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
Well, typically, they just fight it out to the last square and win by having five of nine squares.
The "gentleman's agreement" you speak of was usually in use.
Just not for the last three games or so.

I think the rules should make it win by majority (5 out of 9).

Re: Playground Squares XII: Where the fun never ends. EVER!
((I'm thinking Duck is saying the only way to win is by majority. So three in a row just won't cut it, anymore.)) But here's the real Question:
Everyone knows who Starbuck is (or you should know at least one of them). Either played by Dirk Benedict from the `78 series, or by Katee Sackhoff of the `03-`09 series, Starbuck is the best pilot in on Galactica, perhaps of the whole fleet before cylon attack.
In the new series, Kara has a love interest in both of Commander/Admiral Adama's sons Zak and Apollo. Starbuck from the old series also dated one of Commander Adama's children. What was the name of the other woman Starbuck was seeing, from the original series?

I agree with it being a Greek name, but... I think it was Not Cassandra. I disagree.
