    dmg roll (1d8+14)[22] +10.5 str +4 pa(dropped the .5)

    resolving the one attack that hit me from lion one (1d20+11)[20]
    resolving the second lions grapple attempt (1d20+11)[17]

    i have taken 13 vitality damage 38 vitality left

    well when quinn wakes up need his attack and dmg and his spearmen's attack and dmg posted for the DM when he wakes up

    just an ooc note for the players 1) its the job of the DM to challenge us...
    2) it is harsh on athis, and 3) it is double that for the arena. I don't see why your all jumping ship

    Eh, jumping ship happens. The game might not be exactly what they thought it was going to be, that's all.

    I already rolled attack and damage for my first round in my last IC post - I got 15 damage with a readied attack against the lion, so doubled is 30 - not enough to kill it in one blow, but I think that triggers massive damage, so a failed fort might kill it anyways.

    I'll be honest, grappling is my weakpoint, but I'll roll a couple times and see how I do.

    to those quitting, good luck. in ancient rome, gladiators before emperor titus had a near 90% survival rate, unless they were delivered internal wounds.

    Athas(dark sun) is a very harsh world, where gladiator arena combat is the most popular form of entertainment. combat is a core part of a gladiator game.
    As players we play to be challenged, to have fun and learn new things. Characters live, die, win and are defeated, in many games to lose is to die. it is hard enough to game through this medium where everything takes a long time to resolve, but it does require an active role, not a passive one.

    Doesn't the lion need to hit with both claws to get the grapple attack from improved grapple?

    Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a lion must hit with its
    bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action
    without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple
    check, it establishes a hold and can rake.

    I was thinking of the generic entry for improve grab
    Improved Grab (Ex): If a creature with this special attack hits
    with a melee weapon (usually a claw or bite attack), it deals normal
    damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking
    an attack of opportunity (see Grapple, page 155 of the Player’s
    Handbook). No initial touch attack is required.
    Unless otherwise noted, improved grab works only against opponents
    at least one size category smaller than the creature. The
    creature has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply
    use the part of its body it used in the improved grab to hold the
    opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it takes a –20 penalty on
    grapple checks, but is not considered grappled itself; the creature
    does not lose its Dexterity bonus to AC, still threatens an area, and
    can use its remaining attacks against other opponents.
    A successful hold does not deal any extra damage unless the creature
    also has the constrict special attack. If the creature does not
    constrict, each successful grapple check it makes during successive
    rounds automatically deals the damage indicated for the attack that
    established the hold. Otherwise, it deals constriction damage as
    well (the amount is given in the creature’s descriptive text).
    When a creature gets a hold after an improved grab attack, it
    pulls the opponent into its space. This act does not provoke attacks
    of opportunity. It can even move (possibly carrying away the
    opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight.
