Ah, that's right. I got so caught up in playing the Big Bad Wolf that I forgot about creating the role of the Huntsman. I'll get that rolling later today, and yes, he can still make his entrance during the fight/chase involving the Marrow.

On the subject of the Grue: perhaps it would leave vampires alone, them being affiliated with the night and all, and maybe the Grue can only be found in one area at a time (areas where survival is the only thing actively happening *hint hint*).

I put Kate in. If anyone wants to interact with her, she's open. She's in one of the least dangerous places of the Crossroad, so either if anyone wants someone to run into her... or if anyone wants a moderate example of the wildlife to find her...

It's filched almost entirely from an ancient Kaelaroth post. The one Reinholdt puts in a spoiler and uses as a description for his namesake character when in that creepy pink-eyed human form. But then, you probably knew that already, and that's probably why you liked it.

The Grue is basically a 'miss or die' attack, in the form of a wandering monster. One can ward it off with fires or other light sources, yes (the 'miss' part), but that rules out a lot of things that are sensitive to light or fire, and there seems to be no way of evading it other than that. And if it does get to you, it can pretty much mulch anything, at least anything acceptable as a PC here, from what you've said.

This is true. Though off hand I can't think of anything that would burst into flames and die due to torchlight.

It also makes vampires of any kind basically impossible (unless they tolerate sunlight ) because you can't, effectively, move around at night.

Wear really really thick body-covering clothing? Carry a torch, flashlight, lantern, or nifty glowing magical item?

And certainly you can't sneak, which means that the small tribes that are supposed to be forming can't do night-raids on each other at all.

If you absolutely have to do a night-raid then take advantage of cover and terrain to obscure your approach. Though to be fair getting murdered in your sleep isn't much fun from an RP standpoint. Otherwise, sneak during the day.

Also, it lends itself to being a no-win situation; either one has a light and attracts attention from the predators the Grue mysteriously leaves alone, or one does not have a light, and gets eaten by the Grue.

The Grue's unnatural gloom snuffs any light that would otherwise get past it from a campfire, so that really isn't an issue. And it doesn't devour random animals because they aren't snarky PCs.

It would be simple enough to make The Grue not be everywhere. And its approach is always really obvious when it is showing up, which should provide ample time to switch gears and get a light source going.

That doesn't sound very fair for those not using the undead/vampires/etc. Based off what Rebo has said thus far, the Grue sounds easy enough to avoid.
Of course, I may not be quite as concerned, since I use a pyromacer...

Perhaps so, but what if some of the other hunter species native to Crossroad would only target vampires, species that ignore non-undead for whatever reason? In a place where just about anything is possible, I can't imagine that this would be too much of a stretch.

If the undead are Grue-proof, I'm sure we'll figure out something equivalent for them to worry about, so both living and undead characters have basically the same level of problems.

How about during the day, there's a randomly wandering thing that keeps in any brightened area and painfully sears to death any undead with its bright lights?

Then, we just have to create a PC that is undead during the day and alive during the night so that he can run away from both monsters.

I don't want to step into a scene without permission from all the players. In addition, the Edge of the Forest scene already has three players. It's possible that adding a fourth will slow things down.
