Lazer, the colonists actually move over water that they could have waded or treaded through (albeit at 5-7' height, so with difficulty for some), you are the only one underwater as they cross a deeper patch. Three particularly large crabs start heading towards the meal train above.

Eliezer already has his dagger ready and he pops up to the surface and shouts "Giant crabs coming from below!"

If he goes before them, he moves into a blocking position as much as possible, and readies to stab the first one that comes in reach.

Round One ...

R1T27: With Lazer's forewarning, Amella spends this round shouting for the colonists to continue moving. She readies to shoot the first crab that she can see that attacks a colonist, even though that means missing an attack for herself. That doesn't mean she isn't aware of her own self, though.

R1T21: Lazer, a giant crab scuttles along the bottom and snaps at you but misses.

R1T16: Tom, you see Lazer underwater now engaged with an enemy. You can see two other crabs underwater now you know what to look for with the tops of their semi-camouflaged bodies. They are 20' away and now swimming towards the group. Since you, Shouting Tree and Ix-Caban are bringing up the rear, the crabs seem to be heading towards you. Because of refraction, you are not sure of depth. What do you do?

R1T16: Tom casts a spell, and suddenly a massive Great White shark enters from stage left, placing itself between the party and the last two crabs and making itself appear as menacing as possible...

"The shark's ours," Tom says.

In case anybody doesn't get the point, the shark's sides and back are patterned with purple polka dots. The shark keeps losing form and Tom has to work hard to try and get it to "stay in shape."

R1T12: Lazer, though the water is relatively clear you can tell that Tom isn't used to casting illusions from ground through water. And with all of the motion, Tom just isn't able to keep up a cohesive illusion with all of the varying refraction and surface-to-air coupling. [And a poor INT roll for Tom.] What do you do?

Lazer has his own opponent to contend with. He begins his classic Tarzan-fights-the-crocodile tussle underwater, trying to stab it with his dagger.

R1T12: Lazer has his own opponent to contend with. He begins his classic Tarzan-fights-the-crocodile tussle underwater, and almost pries his dagger in-between its plates but can't quite get it.

R1T11: Moving towards .... whatever it is ... the next crab waves its claws around, seeing if this shifting water hides food.

R1T8: Skald, your bow won't help much, and the starbow would impact on the surface and hurt friendlies. You are 15' above the water, probably towards the lead, so you are 40' from where Lazer fights his, or 50' from to the next on an offset bearing (and the other crab another 20' behind that one).

What do you do?

R1T8: Skald takes a good breath and drops into the water. He takes aim and fires at the closest grab dealing with the blurry pink sharkish thing, but the arrow misses because of the water.

R1T5: Shouting Tree spends the remainder of his round making sure people are herded safely across, and has Ix-Caban come with him.

R1T1: In the middle of pink water, the crab detects real motion with Skald's splash. It swims to him and clacks with its claw, but Skald ducks backwards.

The colonists are safe.

End Round 1, Begin Round 2 ...

R2T27: "Bout time I had the chance to use this," Amella says with a smirk. She lets herself sink into the water. The green leather cloak she wears billows out surprisingly wide while keeping close to her form. Within seconds, she is a manta ray that is about 5-1/2' long before the stinger (another 2'). Amella-Manta zooms around the backfield to come up behind the crab attacking the captain, albeit with a 5' gap.

R2T21: Lazer's opponent actually gets in a surprising critical around the rabbi's chest and back for mod 9 and holding him fast.

R2T16: Tom, what do you do? Lazer and Amella (manta ray form) are (almost flanking). Skald is firing on another. All three of these allies are underwater. A third crab is in the front-center of your attempted illusion. The colonists are safe.

Cast Frost Fall on Crab #3, placing it so that it will just catch the crab, with the remainder of the aoe between it and the group. (Spell description says nothing about underwater restrictions.)

R2T16: Tom concentrates and tries to focus on a zone of freezing cold on and in front of the third crab. The crab shivers and waves its claws around, but it's hard to tell just how bad Tom hurt it. The area of cold continues ...

R2T12: Lazer, you are currently in a giant crab's clutches. What do you do?

The unattended (middle) crab on deck, Skald in the hole (he was previously shooting at the crab that is currently in a very chilly area of water) ...

Lazer tries to get enough of a hand free and to speak to cast a spell that might protect him.

R2T12: Lazer manages to free a hand for the gestures and casts sanctuary, but the crab does not release him.

R3T11: The middle crab swims up to Amella from behind her and attacks.

R3T8: Skald, there are three targets. The first has the captain grappled in its claw. The second is facing off with Amella-ray, who is near the first. A third one, the one you last fired on, is the area of a strange spell that Tom had cast to make the water visibly frigid (even including small dapples of snow-ice on the surface). What do you do?

R3T8: Skald, feeling that the cold Tom has created is not likely to hurt him (or only very little), dives into the water with a big breath, taking out his magical rapier. He gives a light thrust that only does 3 (min), but that's something. If nothing else, he is a little piece of prickly food that might keep the crab in the cold while holding off for others.

R3T5: Shouting Tree launches into the water on the far side of the first crab that has the captain. He looks for a weak spot and then strikes to no avail.

R3T4: Ix-Caban crouches down, and then roars terrifically before diving into the water and swimming above the same crab as her master and biting into the shell for 13.

R3T1: Skald's crab reaches out and grabs him briefly but not before he wriggles free and away from the second claw.

End Round 3, Begin Round 4 ...

R4T27: Though dealing with her own enemy, Amella tries to take advantage of the first but her stinger can't penetrate the shell.

R4T21: The same crab tries to continue to constrict Lazer but fails and the rabbi is free.

R4T16: Tom, Skald's team tactic worked. He is too large and tasty a morsel to be ignored by that crab (at least for now). The crab takes 4 cold damage, and the storm druid is totally unharmed. The first crab has all sorts of heroes on it. The second has just to move up 5' and Amella will be flanked. What do you do?

Lazer, you are free, where do you want to be? You are deck. Middle crab in the hole ...

R4T16: Tom turns and focuses a patch of cold on the second crab's nose, or whatever passes for its nose, hoping that it will recoil from Amella. The unnatural chill of the forces of winter billow forth to strike the surface as before (which includes the crab in the burst just below the surface), and just barely offset by LOE to keep Amella from being affected. The crab begins to move sluggishly as it takes 11 cold.

R4T12: Lazer, you are currently below your opponent, flanking with Ix-Caban from above. What do you do?

Middle crab (vs Amella) on deck, Skald in the hole ...

R4T11: The crab most recently hit by the frost strikes at Amella and hits her for mod 2, though without a hold.

R4T8: Skald, you are now in the water with your rapier in hand against the third crab in the cold area. The cold has no chance of hurting you, but causing it to fight you as possible food will keep it off the others until such time as it doesn't want to play anymore. What do you do?

R4T8: Skald will continue to antagonize the crab in his immediate vicinity. The crab pulls at his rapier as he brings it in and Skald has to yank it to pull free, and just barely keeps from dislocating his shoulder in doing so.

R4T5: Shouting Tree studies his target and stabs with his spear with a clear maneuver for 28, felling that first crab.

R4T4: Ix-Caban, with Shouting Tree pointing, swims with her powerful muscles to the second crab. She moves into the area of cold and takes a full 8 cold. She tussles with the creature but her large jaws gain no purchase against the flat, smooth shell.

R4T1: As badly as Skald fumbles with his attack, it bore forth unexpected fruit. As Skald's sword pulled away, the crab was trying to clamp down. The excessive force it used made its claw snap back on itself and it does 5 (min) damage. Just when Skald think it might be safe, as the one side of the crab that hit itself with that claw faces away, the other claw comes in to snap around Skald's chest for mod 5, though he manages to slip away from crushing danger.

End Round 4, Begin Round 5 ...

R5T27: Amella backs up and shoots at her opponent with Devil's Dam, which hits it for 4, even as the the hand crossbow automatically reloads.

R5T16: Tom, the cold area in the back hurts the crab for the full 8 cold (Skald is unharmed). As it does so the frost dissipates in the warm water. The second frost fall on the middle group hurts the crab for 3 cold, and Ix-Caban for only 1 cold. What do you do?

Since the middle crab is now engaged, Tom concentrates on the one in back, refreshing the zone of cold around it...

R5T16: Since the middle crab is now engaged, Tom concentrates on the one in back, refreshing the zone of cold around it. It only takes 2 cold, but it still seems a bit discombobulated.

R5T12: Lazer, what do you do?

R5T12: The rabbi's dagger skitters off the crap's crabapace.

R5T11: Suddenly aware of a new threat (it had been affected by Lazer's sanctuary from previously), the crab spins and clacks at him. The first can't quite get through the celestial's tough skin, but it is enough to slow the rabbi's wriggling enough for the second pincer for mod 2. Even then, Lazer wrenches free.

R5T8: Skald, you are still fighting your opponent, and it appears to have been staggered by the newest application of Tom's cold spell. What do you do?

Shouting Tree on deck, Ix-Caban in the hole ...

R5T8: Skald continues to harry the crab.

R5T5: Shouting Tree jabs twice and pierces deep on his second for 14.

R5T4: Despite being in the cold area that exists between the two crabs, Ix-Caban stays. His bite just barely manages to punch through the shell but drags deep for 12 and giving a solid hold. Ix-Caban then proceeds to claw and rake to end the crab.

R5T1: Skald's opponent is still staggered and only attacks with one claw.

End Round 5, Begin Round 6 ...

R6T27: Amella, free of an opponent, allows the warriors in the cold water to do their thing. For her part she swims in a wide circle and then shoots Devil's Dam from a distance of 15' from her target for 5.

R6T16: Ix-Caban pays the price for so brave a vanquishing of her target takes a full 5 cold. The last crab takes 4 cold.

Meanwhile, Tom, what do you do? The frost fall that covers Ix-Caban ends this round, and the other one (on the enemy) will last another round.
