Default UDN and Evolution Industries Facilities

    The Union

The reigning government of Inside and some surrounding areas, the Union for the Defense of the Nexus (UDN or just the Union, for short) possesses a number of major facilities.

    HQ/The Spire

An unusually wide black tower standing at the highest point of the Skyway, this futuristic tower lacks much in aesthetics. Clearly reinforced and armored, some parts of the tower even conceal defensive turrets.

The most notable aspect of the Spire is the roof. Rather than a conventional roof, the highest point of the tower is a massive missile silo-esque structure that opens into a docking bay for the Sanctuary. When closed, it forms a heavily armored defense for whatever is landed, be it Sanctuary or anything else.

    Imperial Aerial Vessel (IAV) Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is an aerial aircraft carrier dating back to the time when Vyrn's Empire ruled over Inside and much of the territory around it. It was the first of its kind built by the Empire itself, followed by Spectre and Supremacy.

The vessel's crew is deceptively small for a ship of its size. The ship's computer systems have been upgraded heavily, cutting down on crew requirements. This frequently makes the ship seem rather empty.

The ship looks something like this, though it is not entirely the same as what its base is taken from, mostly in the area of armaments. It does not possess the same level of armaments as the other massive Imperial craft did, lacking bomb bays entirely. It does, however, have several rapid-fire laser turrets and, to a lesser extent, laser cannon emplacements for defensive purposes.

Some mysteries still surround the Sanctuary and its current status. No sign of most of the original Imperial crew remains, and half the ship's aircraft complement was completely missing when it was finally recovered. No one knows how it reached the location where it was found either, and navigation data recovered from the bridge cuts off around the time of the Fall of the Empire-nothing beyond that was available, and therefore a large gap exists between the previous data and the new data from the ship's re-launch.

Beyond that, the atmosphere aboard the ship often seems rather eerie, the crew often feeling as if they're being watched, even when no one else nor any security cameras are around. Some report seeing ghosts aboard, and indeed, there is some truth to the claims...

The ship is currently AIRBORNE, and positioned near Fortress Haven.

    Bridge
    Spoiler
    Show
The Sanctuary's bridge is the control center for the entire craft. It often seems rather empty for the most part. Many of the consoles are usually unattended, the improved computer system dealing with their operation on its own, though they have not been removed. In case the system fails, they can be taken over manually.

    Barracks
    Spoiler
    Show
These are fairly standard living quarters for a flying military ship, not meriting much description.

    Engineering
    Spoiler
    Show
The main power supply of the ship, a fusion reactor, is located here, along with secondary reactors in the form of Evolution Industries MACE technology. Engineering mainly manages the ship's power, along with its engine systems and limited weapons.

    Spoiler

A mess hall, for when Sanctuary's crew needs to eat. Pretty obvious, really.

    Fortress Haven and Union Labs

The UDN's main base outside the city of Inside, Fortress Haven was originally the Empire's major construction site for its infamous oversized aerial vessels, including IAV Sanctuary. Following the fall of the Empire, it was left abandoned, until the Irregulars uncovered a hostile presence that could threaten the entire Nexus if left unchecked. Taking the opportunity, Vyrn had the base reclaimed in a called named Operation Ascendant and gave it its new name.

The base is built into a mountain, with its alterations plain and obvious for all to see. A huge chunk was removed from the top, with yet more rock removed below to create the construction and launch chamber. Tunnel entrances dot the mountain, flanked by pairs of heavy beam turrets, leading into the base proper. Anti-air emplacements have also been erected around the mountain, in the wake of the war with the Chimera Syndicate.

Inside, it is fairly straightforward, its designers having avoided making it into too much of a maze. Most of the tech placed by the base's pre-Operation Ascendant occupiers has been stripped, although work continues to be done in the construction chamber.

Near Fortress Haven is a location known as Union Labs Complex Alpha. Originally known as Imperial Laboratories Complex Alpha, it was renamed Altaran Labs Complex Alpha when it was reclaimed by the Altaran Irregulars, and obtained its new name when the UDN proper formed from them. Above-ground, its visible features are four buildings: A barracks for the troops, living quarters for the scientists, and two vehicle garages with helipads on their rooftops, one for standard vehicles and the other for prototypes. Due to some remodeling, it now has three elevators to the labs below, one in the barracks, one in the living quarters, and one in the prototype garage. What happens down there is anyone's guess. The complex is surrounded by a forcefield fence and now contains extra anti-air emplacements, in case of Syndicate assault, but its main defense is the proximity of Fortress Haven.

    Locations
    Spoiler
    Show
Fortress Haven has analogues to many of the facilities at the spire and on Sanctuary, so much of that is safe to assume. Obviously it won't have a bridge or a flight deck, so use your imagination. That said, it does have a unique location.

    Construction and Launch Bay
    Spoiler
    Show
The place where the vessels Sanctuary, Spectre and Supremacy were constructed, the construction and launch bay is one of the few facilities capable of supporting monstrous ships of their kind. That said, when not in use for this, it can serve as a substitute landing bay for VTOL aircraft and other vehicles, and currently serves this purpose.

The bay itself is expansive and currently occupied mainly by facilities for supporting aircraft, though most still remain on Sanctuary. Unlike most of the base, this area, due to its sheer size, still bears some of the marks of the Borg presence, with traces of their tech lining the upper walls, mostly appearing to be some manner of construction automated systems in the form of transporter units and tendrils.

    Union Labs Complex Alpha
    Spoiler
    Show
The base's main layout is as described outside the spoiler. The labs below, however, are expansive and varied, with a great many potential uses, though their designs and technology are focused on military matters. These may be opened for player use again in the future, so I will be leaving the exact details vague to let others fill them in later.

    Evolution Industries

Originally a company specializing in highly advanced power generation technology, Evolution Electronics and Power expanded into the military corporation it is now as the governments of the Nexus demonstrated their need for military hardware. Responsible for much of the technology and materiel used by the later Empire and all three of its successor organizations, EI has been the backbone of the powers of Inside for some time. Its profits, up until its founder's departure from the organization, were often used to fund Watchtower/VIGIL, proving a resource to them as well.

    Inside Headquarters

EI's overall HQ, and the hub of its business with the UDN, the Inside HQ is a remarkably unguarded-looking place in contrast with the organization's founder's infamous attitude towards security. However, this is deceptive. An office building with attached laboratories and other hidden facilities, it has several teleportation pads inside and out that are used to move through its own teleportation defenses at their controller's leisure. Through the same method, security can instantly be deployed to any location necessary, perhaps even including heavy vehicles hidden in secret locations.

    Westside Headquarters

A lesser facility in contrast with the HQ in Inside, the Riverside branch headquarters in Westside has undergone several security renovations ever since Magtok's assault on it. It now possesses teleportation pads similar to those of the Inside HQ around its exterior, providing similar deceptive security potential. The building itself is merely an administrative building, without the attached labs.

    Westside Power Plant

The one and only Class 3 MACE installation commissioned, this facility, up until recently, provided vast amounts of power to Riverside as a whole. Now, after the Chimera Syndicate's attack, it has largely been abandoned, with vital components removed to prevent further attempts at weaponization, though it has not been entirely demolished. The facility is essentially a heavily reinforced concrete bunker built around the crystalline reactor, catwalks and control equipment built into the walls on the inside, with emergency exits and a helipad on the exterior. It still bears the marks of battle damage, and is now very lightly guarded by remotely-operated drones. Due to fears of potential contamination after the Anomalous Solutions force's last desperate attempt at destruction, EI is not currently allowing anyone near, though it has stressed that no lingering radiation has been detected. However, unusual electromagnetic signatures still linger...

    The Light of Evolution

Another Westside facility, the Light of Evolution itself is nothing more than a very large light source with an anti-gravity system built into it. The real marvel is the facility beneath it, which beams power up to the Light to power it, and automatically 'catches' it when the artificial night cycle is ready. A containment field is present around the power beam to prevent anyone from inadvertently interrupting it or frying themselves.
The facility serves as Westside's artificial sun, providing no small relief to the alien nature of the area enforced by its former vampiric rulers.

The Light's security, compared to either headquarters, is relatively sparse. Evolution Security patrols do keep a watch on it, but it is not considered a high-priority target.

    Infinity Base

A newer facility finished relatively recently, the Infinity Base is a large complex housing six Class 3 MACE installations in the style of the one in Riverside, all concentrated together in a single location. It bears more resemblance to a military base than a corporate outpost, with garages and helipads full of Evolution Industries vehicles and aircraft there to guard it, as well as a full barracks of Evolution Security troops. It also contains its own factory, able to be configured to manufacture various EI products, and it conceals beneath it an elaborate secret lab, used for its owner's most secret experiments.

The selling point of the Infinity Base is its remodeling of the Evolution Industries power system. Instead of building separate Class 3 installations, multiple are group in one place, away from populated areas. Power is distributed to customers through a development based on the Light of Evolution, a network of portal-linked power beamer and receiver facilities that link Infinity Base to receivers in other areas, with these then distributing power. Contrary to naysayers, Infinity Base was under construction for some time before the Syndicate attack, as EI had become all too aware of the risk.

Infinity Base is located in a cleared-out area surrounded by thick swamps, chosen as a defensive location that isn't all that likely to face natural disasters. The swamps are infested with all kinds of unpleasantness you'd associate with swamps, as well as some more exotic fare inherent to a reality filled with myriad impossibilities.

The group from the stormy isles, having traveled back from Westside Headquarters, looks up at the Spire. They wait for their presence to be noted by the guards, as has been the case for their previous two visits to the seat of Inside's government.

[The Spire - Outside -> Conference Room]

The guards send word up immediately, and Archibald will be transported up to the conference room. Both the Union Commanders are present, seated next to each other, with Archibald opposite them (though obviously not seated yet).

"Very good," Vyrn opens from his seat, clapping, perhaps a bit dramatic. "Now that is one way to convince others you're trustworthy. We received word from EI about your assistance, and it's much appreciated. But...there's one problem here. After the attack was over, we received word from someone else as well, and...this might complicate things."

"Rest assured that had things gone as they were, you'd have your embassy with far fewer strings attached than we originally had in mind. You have proven quite a bit with that. But...well. You'll see in a moment. None of what you are about to see is to be shared with anyone besides those present and your king himself." N'alae twitches oddly after explaining, and someone else is transported up,

Now standing on the Commanders' side of the conference table is someone very familiar, his appearance marred only by multiple obvious spots where something has torn through the artificial skin covering the robotic body, metal bits showing through gaps in the false human form. They're oddly symmetrical, uniformly distributed around the face and hands, like something was designed to link in and he just didn't have the time to repair the damage. It looks decidedly odd combined with the business suit.

DC takes his seat a couple away from the Commanders. "Seems everyone's allegiances are turning upside-down lately," he begins, cryptically. "Just the most bizarre changes of heart. Now, I'm not a forgiving man, but obviously if I'm here and letting you know it, you have my interest. Although I'm pretty sure anyone who works for Gordon would never make assumptions about who is and isn't dead, so no big loss anyway..." He coughs, entirely unnecessarily, because obvious android body. "What I'm asking is why. A change of heart so profound he's seeking out support with Commander Altaran here and helping Riverside and EI directly? What happened?"

Archibald looks a bit surprised at DC's appearance. He was not aware that the psychic was this connected to the government. Well, hopefully this will not lead to a failure in the diplomatic process.

"Well, from what he has said to me, its the change in his position. He takes his duties in whatever role he has seriously. In the past, when he led AMEN, he focused his actions on what would benefit that group. Now that he rules the Stormy Isles, his role has changed. AMEN wanted chaos, but the Isles need peace and good connections to the other places of the Nexus. Therefore, helping the Union and such is the best way he thinks to fulfill his duties."

The Vice Commander speaks up first, after DC gives her a look. "We just want to make sure you won't be trying to kill each other. Again. You're not exactly known for restraint, and we do not want our allies and supporters fighting. We would have to separate you like parents dealing with squabbling children."

"Basically, we're just here to keep you two from strangling each other while you work it out. Forget we're here for now."

"...Right." He turns back to Archibald. "Every experience I've had tells me to distrust such suspicious 180 degree turns. Still, under the circumstances, I doubt there's much of a military threat, and if you try anything everyone is going to descend on you like a pack of very angry wolves, plus you're at least no friends of the Syndicate..."

He falls silent for a moment in contemplation.

"...Do you have electricity in the Isles? Not trying to condescend, that's a legitimate question around here. And if so, what's your techbase for it look like?"

Archibald watches this flow of explaination and relaxes a bit. Reasonable concerns he can deal with, a psychic crushing his brain for information and venting anger is not.

"I see. A fair point to worry about possible conflict. As things stand, his majesty see no point to conflicting with Mr Darkcomet. As his majesty has no lingering hostility towards him. And yes, we do have electricity, though in a limited amount. His Majesty is an expert on that, but there are limits to where one can place a power plant and not worry about monsters destroying it and then going on a supercharged rampage. We do a slight monster issue out on the isles."

"Just DC, thanks. But here's my offer. Evolution Industries will expand and reinforce the power grid, installing power receiver stations to take power from the facility we had going live right around the same time AS attacked in Riverside, with those stations defended by EvSec as normal. The understanding being that, should you accept, the Isles' power supply will be extremely jeopardized by making the Commanders here or myself regret our decision to trust you," DC explains, evidently deciding to take the approach of making them rely on him to make sure no backstabbing occurs. "As an added bonus, if something does go wrong that ability to cut the power can benefit you too. If something's about to...absorb power like you're worried about, we can cut the beam and the portal it's going through and the station will be of no value to the creature, or anyone else who might try to use it like the Syndicate did."

"Not sure you should be telling someone when you're trying to game them like that," the Vice Commander observes. But it was interesting, and the new EI model did seem to offer much better safety from whatever these things are threatening the Isles. That and he was at least honest about it, if nothing else.

"Noted, DC. Your offer does have benefits, but I am sure that his Majesty will want some control over the power supply. There have been cases when the people at the plant itself had no warning, so if your agents are the only ones who can cut the power there could still be a rampage."

    Archibald gestures slightly, thinking.

"Yes, with some sharing of the controls, and with the majority of the power coming from your system, I believe his Majesty will agree with this plan. That way the power situation isn't completely out of his hands, but the safeguards that you desire are in place as well."

DC shrugs. "Well, if you want to be able to cut the power yourself, who am I to judge? Long as EI still gets paid, it'll remain a mutually beneficial arrangement, so I don't see any issue with sharing the shutdown codes for the receiver stations. As long as all involved cooperate, obviously. Although I'm very curious to know what exactly is going on with these monsters out there."

"That is definitely worrying, I have to agree. Not the point of this meeting, but worrying nonetheless."

That was not a fond memory, because Archibald was close to that island when that happened.

DC raises an eyebrow, his expression somewhat unnerving given the movement of his damaged false skin. "And they...eat electricity. I guess that would explain why Gordon hasn't dealt with them, odd as it is that he chose to rule in some place plagued by things that might as well be tailor-made to fight him. Guessing they're amphibious, too, so it's hard to hunt them down?"

The Commanders are quiet for now, silently noting that that's definitely a major reason to seek out an alliance with the Union.

"No, just resistant, through the serpent is indeed amphibious. There's only two species of monsters that eat electricity that we have run into. The problem is that since we are on the border of the Nexus, new ones can just pop right into our plane of existence. That's why the head of our hunters is one of his Majesty's top aides."

The monsters are indeed a reason for wanting an alliance, Gordon's forces are capable of holding what they have, but they can't push back the monsters enough to increase the usable area. Though Archibald isn't going to say that, just think it in his head. No reason to imply too much weakness.

"...I'm not surprised he turned up, but I am definitely surprised he restrained himself so well," N'alae says, not sure what to make of what just happened. "Back to what we were actually here for, given what's happened, I believe an embassy will be perfectly permissible."

Not like they're asking for a full-fledged military base or something.

"Identification?" One 'asks.' He's a guard, what else does anyone expect from him? Though one thing of note is happening, that being some sensors scanning the suitcase for anything unusual that might draw attention. Mostly, bombs.

    Outside Vyrn's Office => Vyrn's Office

It'd been two days since the Vice Commander had brought that...thing in here to be treated and examined and those two days of stress and lack of sleep showed heavily on Steven Christenson's face and attire. His normally pristine labcoat was wrinkled and stained and heavy lines showed next to his dark eyes. He frowned at the thought of his first reaction to seeing that torso being brought into the medical labs, having felt lots of excitement and curiosity, but now...

Now it has come back to bite me in the ass. I'm never going to sleep again.
He thought to himself as he waited to be told to enter the office. This was going over N'alae's head, but he needed to inform both of them at the same time instead of bringing this up again and again. Looking down at the incredibly heavy and damaged helmet in his hands, he frowned again and didn't bother to suppress a shiver. The damn thing had been sterilized under both alcohol and heat, but he couldn't help but feel like that the red skull painted on the front of the thing was staring at him.

    [Office of the High Commander]

    Soon, the word comes.

When the doctor actually enters the office, the High Commander at his desk and his second-in-command standing off to the side, the temperature feels like it's dropped a degree. It's been no secret that communication between them had dropped off ever since N'alae put down the great dragon of wind in the Grounds, and the tension between the two has been there since.

Needless to say, Vyrn Altaran is not amused with the Vice Commander dragging back even more oddities from that place, though at least she hasn't gotten even more extreme powers from it. Neither visibly betrays it, but they are decidedly not at ease.

Of course, the doctor looks even worse than they do, so at least there's that.

    "Report."

The doctor strides right up to the desk and grunts as he hefts the helm and sets it on the desk in front of the two. Afterwards he takes a deep breath and lets it out before slumping in the visitor's chair. "I don't know where to begin, sir, ma'am." He admits with a sigh. "Though I suppose first things first, I need to ask something. Vice Commander, you and your men weren't exposed to that black goo that's everywhere in his armor and on him, were you? Please tell me that you took the utmost care in transporting him in an isolated manner."

"Precautions were taken in adherence to biohazard protocols, yes," N'alae says. "Nanocontaminants, then?" She's rather quick on the uptake, but then, she does have experience with that sort of thing.

Vyrn is silent, though it's clear from the way he stares at the helmet that his mood is already getting worse with everything he hears here.

"Yes, though it seems that the black goo keeps itself restrained. Provided the host isn't threatened."
The doctor explains, giving a visible shudder. "May staff and I learned the hard way not to provoke it. None of us were injured, but..." He stops, gesturing at the helmet. "When we removed that, it appears we destroyed a self-contained atmosphere inside the suit. As the subject was unconscious, it was only whatever intelligence runs the nannite swarm that could have remotely hacked into our monitoring systems. We just never expected such to be hacked into as they're otherwise useless." He explains before holding up a hand to keep the two from talking. "The machines we use are almost entirely self-contained on their own networks just for simplicity sake, but the intelligence decided to only use the machines closest to the subject. It took us a while to understand what it was trying to tell us, but we were able to jury rig an appropriate life-support system to keep him alive." He adds, pulling a tablet from his pocket and unlocking it before putting it on the desk in front of the two. "It appears that the subject's modifications require a far higher oxygen concentration than what we normally breathe, so our atmosphere is toxic to him. In an effort to remove that helm to treat the subject, we started to suffocate him. His appearance is on the tablet."

The tablet has two images on the screen when it is passed over. The first is a pale human head, hairless, with skin so pale it could be called ghostly. His face is framed by that black ooze and it seems tendrils of the ooze reach into the corners of the man's eyes, up his nose, into his ears, and into the corners of his mouth. The second image is the same head, though covered completely with the Goo to mask his features. "Best as we can tell, the Goo acts as a life support system, support AI, and if our readings are right, are capable of extremely advanced biological and cybernetic enhancements and restructuring. If given enough time and resources, the nannites would regenerate the man's limbs, possibly making them even better than before. That said, the nannites aren't being given the chance to do it slowly." He adds before sighing again. "It seems that the Goddess of the Hunting Grounds has decided to heal him. We picked up divine energies all over him. Low-key, but healing. At this rate, it'll be two more days before he's completely regenerated. Armor, Goo, and him. All three."

"What? He lost, that shouldn't...wait. " The Vice Commander rests her face in her palm with a sigh. "Fvadt. He must've gotten partial credit when that bloodthirsty idiot who forced the battle died in the PAT-1 strike. Anything else?"

Vyrn is quiet again, waiting for the answer to that question.

"Plenty." The doctor says, nodding towards the helm. "I've sterilized the helmet under heat, UV, and alcohol and made sure nothing survived on it before bringing it here for you to examine. I've had samples sent to the labs for spectrum analysis and preliminary results show that we could use the alloys for...quite a bit, actually. The problem is with manufacturing them. They're...to be frank, incredibly dense and complicated. We're talking space navy warship sort of metals, all scaled down to the individual. We calculated that the armor the guy wore, as a full suit, was likely close to six or seven hundred pounds and he probably had the capacity to carry twice that." He adds before gesturing at the tablet. "If you swipe to the left, it'll show some of his physiological make-up. The man is utterly infested with nannite colonies in his bone marrows and organs, but apart from those and the cybernetic and organic implants the nannites seemed to have created in him, his muscles and bones are incredibly dense and strong. If you could even call it bone anymore." The doctor says with a frown before leaning back.

"At this point, the bones are more metal than bone and his muscles are like living steel cable. If it weren't for us being able to run genetic testing on the guy, I'd say he was more of a golem or android than anything else. The results for those tests however, reveal that he's human. Genetically modified to a degree I've never even heard of, but human. Probably from a high gravity world, which helps explain the strength and shorter stature, but there seem to be foreign genetic markers in there as well that we're trying to decipher. If it weren't for the psychology of the society this guy had to be from, I'd love to research and watch over him."

"Vice Commander, you are, from this point forward, barred from interacting with this individual," Vyrn announces, not taking his eyes off the helmet. "The danger of contamination is far too great."

Neither elaborates on why, but it's very clear to them why she specifically shouldn't be near him.

"I assume that indirect contact is still permissible?" she asks, and receives a nod in reply. Vyrn then actually turns to the doctor, finally tearing his gaze from the helmet.

"I believe we're both familiar with the kind of desperation that goes into projects like him, yes. Not to mention the hostility in her report. Do you think we can safely contain him?" he asks. "I'm hesitant to turn someone that dangerous and hostile loose."

The doctor leans forward, putting his hands together as he thinks. "Containment...I'm not sure we could even if it were the right choice, sir. Any attempt to do so would probably result in aggression and hostilities against us right off the bat as soon as he awakens." He points out. "Rehabilitation on the other hand..." He says, giving a small sweeping gesture with his right hand before shrugging. "I've read the Vice Commander's report, but in my opinion he reacted as any soldier would. Landing in unknown territory, likely away from where you were meant to go, and then you are met by two strange individuals who could be hostile? Sorry to say it, but how would you two react?" He asks with another shrug before leaning back and sighing.

"And I'm sorry, but I had to make some calls to my old boss and a few buddies of mine. I know it is a breach of security, but I didn't give them too much information. I just needed an outsider's perspective. It's why I brought up Rehabilitation. The individual here is likely...scarred. Terribly in both emotional and mental aspects. That helm is one of the reasons why. See all those lenses? There's no real connection to them electronically speaking, which means that the goo he had must have been powering them and feeding him the information."
He points out. "That means it'd be a full three-hundred and sixty degree view all the time, fed directly into the sensory part of the brain." He adds, tapping his own head. "And this guy doesn't seem to be a green soldier either. Imagine being fed such for years while fighting the entire time. Before you write him off, despite my own warnings, I think you should bring in a psychic. Get a read from him. Decide what to do after. Maybe introduce him to this place slowly."

    "Beam away."

"Phase through the ground and escape."

The Commanders look at each other for a moment after answering that, both their grim expressions replaced briefly by looks of realization as they grasp exactly how warped their time here has made them. Then they turn back to the doctor as he continues.

N'alae is the first to respond. "While I'm sure we both have some sympathy for someone who has faced such loss, I am less certain if calling the most obvious candidate is a very good idea. He is not a very stabilizing influence on much of anything."

"On the other hand, he's easy to distract from whatever he's on about at the moment if you provide him with something sufficiently interesting or something else to be angry about," Vyrn counters. "I believe his presence would be manageable, provided he was kept on-task. I'll permit it, assuming you don't find any more qualified and equally trustworthy individuals for this."

Steven Christenson lets out a small breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. It didn't sound like he was any trouble luckily. "Regardless of what the psychic finds, I recommend two things. First, that we attempt to adjust him to this place instead of writing him off for a quiet execution." He says, knowing exactly what the two would order if they felt threatened by the unconscious man. "The second is that I think he should be questioned. Not interrogated, but given time perhaps we could get the history and technology of wherever he's from. The last thing we need is more from his world coming here and us being unprepared."

"Well, we certainly can't argue with that, can we?" Vyrn observes, and receives a nod in reply from N'alae. The two were, after all, quite familiar with threats from their own worlds coming back to bite them. "Very well. We'll have him brought in."

    [Later]

"Oh, stop, your scanners can tell this isn't real skin, I don't need a damn biohazard suit!" The complaints of the ghostly, currently robot-inhabiting executive were many. The Union was dragging him in to poke one of their pet projects again. He was getting the distinct sensation of phantom everything pain again.

But most of all they were expecting an android to put on a biohazard suit, and as he stands outside the room Delta-87 is currently held in, he finds himself extremely annoyed with what was either paranoia on their part that made him look decidedly trusting, or them bringing him in to deal with something that was, in fact, that hazardous.

    Medical Bay

    "Please cope with it, sir."
Doctor Christenson says as he waits for DC at the other side of the scanning, sterilization, and airlock leading into the quarantined area. Unlike DC, he doesn't wear a biohazard suit. "And before you ask, the reason I don't wear a suit is because the worst that can happen to me is that I get killed. It could be far worse for you. We figure the bio-hazard suit should protect you from the nannites for about an hour however if they turn aggressive." He explains as he leads the way, offering DC the tablet with all his notes as he walks. "As near as we can tell, the soldier is from a Terra-Variant world." He says, reaching over to the tablet to pull up a picture. The weapon shown is an odd device in the shape of a large pistol but with no clear trigger or magazine. It seems to be made of shards of metal suspended in a glowing blue field. "I believe you'll be interested in this if you get a chance to examine it later, but before that I should mention that this is far above the level of tech the man normally has so we don't believe it is human tech where he's from. However, take a closer look at where the barrel would be." If DC does so, he'll find the words "Big Iron" etched into a small shard of metal. "He wore it on his hip." The doctor says with a wry smile without really explaining joke.

"We've done some scans, and as far as we can tell, the subject has no brain. Not like we'd normally be used to, but we're picking up some very hard to detect electronic frequencies that seem to mimic Alpha-waves and the like. So...he has a mind. It just seems to have been transferred into a purely electronic form. I was hoping you'd be able to check and see if you could dig up some sort of history or memory from him or the AI that's symbiotically attached to the guy."

"I suddenly get that feeling I get whenever someone makes a joke I lack the cultural context for and expects me to get it," DC says, annoyance creeping into his voice.

    These 'Terrans' are so presumptuous.

After giving the unusual weapon displayed a look, he immediately moves on to the actual discussion at hand. "But I see. You're hoping that my expertise with the mind and technical aptitude will let me interface with that. I can't say I expect it to work, for the same reason as hacking usually doesn't. Too many operating systems and divergent technological paths - you'd have to be an expert in all of them at once to get anything done. It is theoretically possible that my familiarity with psychic mental navigation might allow it, but with such a foreign system I can't make any promises," he explains, his tone losing its edge despite the fact that he's transparently trying to lecture the doctor. "I'll try anyway, don't get me wrong, just don't keep your high expectations. At least I definitely won't have to deal with any OS corruption from a counter-intrusion on my end, so it's safe enough. This design doesn't even have a conventional control system."

Whatever this thing is, he's pretty sure it can't hack a ghost, however dangerous the doctor thinks it is.
