Re: Oblongata Rising: A D&D 4E Campaign (IC)
Belle looked between the others, mulling over the new revelations. It seemed like quite the coincidence for so many of these people to know each other ... Or to at least be linked. Was it possible the same was true of her?
Yet she was hesitant to divulge all. Not just yet. She'd wait and see. "So, now that our rooms are paid for," she said, "shall we go investigate Chandler's?"

"Yes, let's. And after, barring anything immediately pressing, we should see about getting some of you new clothes." Abigail says, once again making sure not to specify who in particular.

Aurelios Human Swordmage|Wizard
Character Sheet | Description
"My concern for the welfare of our friend has grown considerably. Traban gave me Chandler's home address, I think it best we proceed there with the haste of a hurricane." Aurelios swirls toward the door, "I know we have much to share and to discuss, put the wind can sing while it travels. Shall be off?"
The glaive in the elementals air has begun spinning once more, its whistling a high pitch, almost shrill tone.

Re: Oblongata Rising: A D&D 4E Campaign (IC)
Belle looks down at her clothes, puzzled. Any subtext of the previous scene was lost on her, and she didn't see what was wrong with her clothes... But maybe there was something she was missing. Maybe 'plain and functional' was conspicuous? "Okay?" she hazards, looking at Abigail with a raised eyebrow.
Turning, she follows Aurelios towards the door!

Marlek finishes up the rest of his ale and follows the rest. His posture has straightened a little, his eyes not so haunted as it was mere minutes before. It's a kind of inner resolve, developed through a mixture of denial and an understanding that moping over it wouldn't achieve anything.
If Greyhand was Yancy, then so be it. It won't affect his current predicament. The past is simply that; long gone.

Volker, the good follower
He shrugs at Aurelios after a short moment of thinking. "Why not. Let's see if this tattoo burnt his arm off yet." Volker rubs his face and ruffles his hair, making it all stand out as it did the other day - somehow staying rigid without putting anything in it - then he picks up his staff and follows the wind walker. "If it hasn't, I could always try burning it off. The mark, not the arm."

Aurelios Human Swordmage|Wizard
Character Sheet | Description
"Then let us cast ourselves to the wind." Aurelios moods does not seem appropriate to the potentially dire circumstance they could face, Upon reflection the elemental's spirits always seem to lift when outside and on the move. "So Volker, sleep a little long did we?" Aurelios voice is high and light, playful.

Re: Oblongata Rising: A D&D 4E Campaign (IC)
((Think I'm going to go for the 24-hour post window on things like this, since it's natural progression. The following assumes you proceed to Chandler's apartment.))
Act 1, Scene 6
37 Dock Road is a structure only a few blocks down Dock from the point where it meets Westnette, the corner on which the Free Arms sits. The building itself would be described by real-estate moguls and carpenters alike as a "fixer-upper", which would be considered an understatement.
The three story wooden building appears to rely on it's neighbors for support, and a crumbling chimney from the roof emits a gout of black smoke from the bowels of the building. The front door is shut, but hanging off the bottom hinge, with the numbers "37" painted onto the center of the wood.
Perception DC 15
Spoiler
You note an indentation in the wood, roughly in the shape of a bootprint. Due to the quality of the wood, you're not entirely sure if the mark is recent or something that was never repaired.
Perception DC 20
Spoiler
You examine the broken hinge of the door, and see that the broken metal hasn't yet rusted. You get the distinct impression that the door was kicked in rather recently, likely in the past 48 hours, since it rained the day before the group gathered in the Free Arms for the first time.

Volker, the unperceptive half-elf
As much as he tries to remain aloof, the robed elementalist feels rather comfortable around the annoyingly light-footed swordmage. It must be the primordial connection, even though they are nearly polar opposites. Not really paying attention to where they are going, Volker dances a little flame between his fingers and across his knuckles. He lets it go out in a small puff when Abigail stops suddenly so he doesn't singe her hair. He was following her a bit close, but wasn't looking at her legs or anything. Not that she would mind if he did. But he wasn't anyways. Not for very long.
"Ah, there it is - number 37." He pipes up.

Aurelios Human Swordmage|Wizard
Character Sheet | Description
"Look there, The door has been kicked in, though I know not if today, or last year. Either way, I think it best that only one us go at first, draw the cold winds to us as it were, and trail them afterwards. One ambush inside another. And if it is nothing, them we will know soon enough."
With that Aureliis swirls around, and breezes toward the door.

Volker, the brave rear guard
"I will remain out here to watch the street. It should be as easy to set that... 'house' ablaze from out here as from within, if need be." He gives a wry grin and positions himself across the street with a good view of the street and building. A bit of stone and earth raise to his hand as he makes himself a little seat.

Belle makes a vague gesture after the others and moves forward, though staying a fair bit behind Aurelios. The glances at 'Mittens'. The creature was unlike anything she had ever seen, but it seemed tame enough.
Hopefully.

Re: Oblongata Rising: A D&D 4E Campaign (IC)
For Aurelios, He Who Enters Apartments
(Not Abigail, for while Mittens also follows Aurelios, Fey Beast Tamer gives you no more a connection to the creature than that of a trained pet. You share no psionic or empathic link with it, and the animal level intelligence of Mittens renders it incapable of delivering complex ideas, even if it were able to communicate with you.)
Spoiler
Apartment 13 is the third door on the left, on the first floor of the structure. The doors in the hallway are all numbered, and in relatively good condition, except for one room, which appears to have no door at all, simply a number painted on the top of the door frame denoting the number '13', the one identified as Chandler's apartment. As you approach the gap where the door once was, you become aware of a soft humming in the structure, as well as a smell that you can only describe as the mixture between salt water and strong whiskey.
The apartment is small, cramped, and messy, lit only by the soft streaming of light through a nearly opaque, Georgian Colonial glass window. The window appears to be the only thing in the room not broken. The apartment is made up of one room, in shambles, with an overturned table and chairs thrown hap-hazard about the floor. Several books are opened, pages torn out or tossed in a pile in one corner, next to a small bed wedged against one wall. The bed itself has all of the sheets ripped off, which are laying in a bulky pile on the floor, as if there is something underneath them, while the edges of the sheets on the floor appear to have absorbed some sort of liquid. Against one wall are a half-dozen, circular, wet marks on the floor, and immediately your mind goes to the barrels you gave to Chandler.

Chandler's Apartment
Spoiler
Underneath the sheets, there is a pile of viscous, green, fluid, full of various inconsistencies and lumps of various pieces of matter, including a leather, salt-stained boot. The mass is shedding a large amount of liquid, which is being absorbed by the sheets, for the most part, while some is seeping into the wood floor.
Please make a Reflex Save.

Re: Oblongata Rising: A D&D 4E Campaign (IC)
Spoiler: For a Few Elemental Jokes More
You notice a small creature slither out of the boot within the goo. It appears to be some mixture between a slug and a snake, covered in wrinkles. Before you have time to observe it further, however, the creature jumps from the slime stopping only an inch from your mouth. It's then that you become dimly aware that your left hand is wrapped around the slimy creature as it squirms in your iron grip, attempting to free itself, soundlessly.

"There's only one bed though. His family must be living separately." Matlek remarked dryly. It didn't really matter. An organization such as this would most likely strike the family the same time they attack Chandler, so as not to give off any alarms.
"Can you describe the thing in the bag? One of us might know something."

Aurelios Human Swordmage|Wizard
Character Sheet | Description
"It is a cross between a slug and a snake, except more wrinkly and extraordinarily quick." Aurelios will continue to describe any forth details he recalls from his brief encounter. "It was still alive when I put it in here, but it stopped moving around afterwards. I do not recommend opening the bag without precautions." the normally adventurous elemental seems to have lost some of his bluster.
