    Volker, the literate

Volker will make his way causiously inside and stand back as Aurelious talks about the sac. He will then make his way to the books and torn pages to glance through them and see if anything seems connected or stands out, using his staff to move the pages or books as much as possible.

Belle hesitates at the door, peering inside. That there was a struggle seemed too obvious to even bother mentioning. The ooze ... and the thing that Aurelios had in his bag ... that was more unnerving. "I don't suppose anyone remembers what kind of boots Master Chandler wore- ... is wearing," she corrects herself, casting a look at the boot floating in the green goop.

Aha! The barrels were indeed taken! The game was afoot! Alaric quickly turns his newfound skill at deduction to the next relevant clue.

The boots! He barrels (pun intended) over to the boots and examines them with a critical eye.

Are these boots . . . footwear, Alaric?

Damn it, Other Alaric, I'm a sellsword, not an academician! Speak Common!

Are they things that one might wear upon the feet? Do they have the requisite bootsiness to be worn upon the lower extremities? LET US INVESTIGATE!!!

    Volker, the almost watchful

Volker begins to eye everything with suspicion and dislike. Maybe they are just playing with us and watching what we do... or maybe it's a trap... or maybe there's nothing here. Not seeing much else to do in the room and feeling a little cramped, the half-elf decides to wait outside, across the street on his "seat" and keep an eye out.

"This place is... less than appealing. Perhaps there is somewhere else we could look without all the... ooze. Good luck with the door knocking, I shall keep a look outside and see if anyone else is watching the building! "
With a glance around and a shudder, he makes his way calmly outside.

Abigail takes out a flask and puts some of the ooze in it and then says, "Well, seeing as how none of us have any clue what this is and we're not having any luck asking the neighbors, I think we should bring this to Mr. Castle and see if he can tell us anything about it."

Eyebrows raised, Alaric returns to the group. I guess their silence isn't surprising. A good syndicate teaches the rabble to shut their traps . . .

"Maybe we can ask around?" he asks, catching the tail-end of the conversation, "Preferably in a part of the city that we haven't caused a scene in, yet? The Sea Ward, I'd reckon, or the nastier wards if we don't want attention from a nice, businessy crime organization. . ."

Figuring out more about the boot (minus its subtle bootsiness) seems a reasonable course. The barrels . . . well, dragon meat seems a powerful thing for the palate, but maybe the right brain-mook might know if its got some more sparky properties? Hmph.

Should we be worried that we have a small portion of the barrels' contents in our digestive tract?

Nah. All we need to do is buy some streetside barbecue and we'll be able to eject it from our gut in short order!
