Re: Steven Universe
I gotta give credit where credit is due. That set of images probably conveys more than a whole lot of paragraphs here in terms of if Steven has developed and the degree to which he has. I don't think it was that much, but I guess in terms of "summoning his shield" it was enough to do. I still take issue with a bunch of other things and specific points, but this one I'm willing to give you.

Re: Steven Universe
Spoiler: Opening specificsDoes anyone know what Garnet was saying in her big line? Cheering drowned it out for me quite a bit. That whole fighting for sequence was awesome, though.

Re: Steven Universe
If you listened to us for a single bloody minute you'd realize that those three pictures, what they represent, is what we've been trying to tell you this show has conveyed to us in a way that did not require us seeing it in tumblr gif form to get.
Okay so Kymme, for the love of god every time he opens his mouth find the appropriate gifs to shove in it, please. It'll make this thread a lot more bareable.

Re: Steven Universe
Sorry, ma'am. Unless it's avatar requests.
Spoiler: The Things She Sang"I will fight for the place where I'm free/ to live, to be, to exist as me."
I was just about to say that, believe it or not.~The meteorite is the source of the light, and the meteor's just what we see,
and the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee.
And the meteorite's just what causes the light, and the meteor's how it's perceived,
and the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee.~

Re: Steven Universe
If I need to explain it:
A picture is worth a thousand words. When used properly it can sum up a point to be digested in three seconds, rather than much, much longer.
Ergo, picking out specific frames to back up a point is far more effective than lengthy posts. Because that's the power pictures have.

Re: Steven Universe
...
Okay guys I'm gonna need help. Please everyone just post page upon page of everything Jayng's ever said here.
For what it's worth I don't actually take serious offense by it, it's just that you staunch and complete seemingly misunderstanding of the show is really frustrating. I'm starting to think in your case it's all legitimate and you just actually don't get it, so it's probably worth trying to explain it to you. It's just bothersome some times because I come into the thread all "hey happy news here's a cool teaser image for the next week of Steven" and everyone's shouting about exceedingly self evident things.

Re: Steven Universe
Your response to my "who is the wizard" train of discussion contained a veiled yet obvious insult to myself.
That right there could be interpreted as trolling.
Then you constantly bad mouth the show in the thread for people who like the show to discuss the show.
Openly talking about Spoilers, after you've been twice asked to not do you.Last edited by Rater202; 2015-07-11 at 12:40 AM.

Re: Steven Universe
I gotta admit, Kymme has made me see the whole show in a completely different light. I still stand by by many things that I said before.
But now I understand what the show is going for and at least in that sense it pays off. Bravo Kymme.

Re: Steven Universe
"Wizards serve kings. You must have had some very interesting history classes growing up."
This could be interpreted in 2 ways.
1: A changing of the context from the Mythological/Fictional King to the Historical King, and thus calls my education into question, or, in layman's terms, implying that I am uneducated or improperly educated.
2: Implying that I believe that magic is real, despite the scientific proof that is does not, thus implying I am extremely childish and naive.
Either interpretation is, essentially, calling me stupid.
@Kymme: Sorry, I only skimmed the thread in my read through-all the "this show sucks" posts kinda ran together. Editing example out.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: Steven Universe
Why would I ever assume you think magic is real? I mean, some people do, and I don't really bother to argue about the existence of magic. Even if I did I know that more than one modern world leader keeps someone vaguely occult on hand for various purposes(though they aren't historical kings, so the context wasn't really appropriate).
I also never made any actual accusations towards your education. If there was an insult inferred by you, it wasn't one I gave. I never called you anything, let alone stupid.

Re: Steven Universe
"You must have had some very interesting history classes growing up" is a sarcastic way of saying "you were improperly educated about history."
If that was not the intent you had, then that was not the wording to use.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

How about, from now on, nobody uses insulting language unless they intend to insult, okay?

Re: Steven Universe
Gems can't breed as far as we are aware, and Steven is an anomaly, perhaps even a blasphemous one to Homeworld.
The Kindergarten pretty much demonstrates exactly how gems are made. The show really didn't leave anything to the imagination on that front and Amethyst confirms it pretty personally, too.
As for there being multiple Pearls and Pearls being a type of Gem, well... It's a bit weird since pearls are actually made inside of a mollusk instead of being an actual proper gemstone, but once you accept that one pearl can be made by gem fabrication tech, then you accept the possibility that given a sufficiently large population of Gems, you'll have some repeats since there are only so many mineral combinations/gemstones.
As far as what makes our Pearl defective, well... That's a bit of a mystery, but it probably has something to do with love, just going by my gut.

Re: Steven Universe
I don't really think that's appropriate. Mainly because anything can be taken as insulting by someone and thus we'd all kind of need to walk on eggshells to avoid insulting each other.
I've had more than my fair share of what could be read as insulting posts directed at me, but I figure it's better to just let it slide than try to cause extra drama over it.
As for Pearl being defective... from the sounds of it she only got creepily devoted to Rose long, long after she'd been made. In a society that dislikes bonds between individuals as gems seem to, that'd make her an outcast in and of itself. Of course Pearl just seems kind of physically needy in general given how psyched she seems to be about fusing with Garnet. Or like, a third of her interactions with Garnet now that Rose is gone.
It's also kind of her biggest flaw. She's clingy enough to insult Greg over Rose in an extremely cheap way and the idea that Rose didn't consider her everything in the world sends her into a crazed emotional husk.

Re: Steven Universe
Woah. You post one link to a cool thing you found on Tumblr and all the sudden you're running around changing people's minds. That's the kind of magic I could get used to.
You don't have to apologize to me, dood.
Turns out, that forced-fusion is totally the "Cluster" Peridot was yelling at Jasper about during Jailbreak. I'm happy it has a name, though it probably isn't.
Also, why not just have people not be mean to each other? I know that's a lot to ask for, but we are in a thread dedicated to a cartoon about love.~The meteorite is the source of the light, and the meteor's just what we see,
and the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee.
And the meteorite's just what causes the light, and the meteor's how it's perceived,

Re: Steven Universe
My personal theory on that is that Gems are reproduced slightly differently on Homeworld to the "parasites" like Amethyst, and that Pearl is actually more of her last name, and by "defective Pearl" they mean that she's part of a long line of Pearl warriors, which she is "defective" due to being a defector and also being high strung and likely some other stuff we don't know about yet.

Re: Steven Universe
The obvious problem there being that, if there's more than one reproduction method and it leaves the species and planet both intact, then it changes the whole dynamic.
As for Pearl as a warrior, she's better than Amethyst and any of the unfused CG's, but going by her holograms and some other examples she looks to be average in terms of gem sizes and not anything special physically. Compared to say, Jasper, who's way bigger. Or whoever had that big gem axe Garnet is tucking away. If they were ever warriors, I somehow doubt they were considered more than grunts.
Though Pearl not originally being a warrior has a certain degree of sense. She has a lot more in common with Peridot, who doesn't actually fight at all. She does techy stuff, like Pearl, and the idea of her stepping into combat and being effective seems a bit silly because she'd probably have tried something by now if she could.
It seems a bit more likley to me that she was meant to be a support gem who just swapped roles, which seems like a big no no given how rigid normal gems seem to be.
