Eldan, I think this is the best social message I've received yet. Though I was at work, I busted out a small laugh.
(To all others, it's a request to help them with Scandal.)
"Dear Sir
As a person of excellent reputation, I am sure that you can, with some certainty, ascertain that I spent the last evening having dinner with you and your lovely spouse and was not, in fact, spending time at Mrs. Plenty's Carneval, demonstrating a variety of Oriental and Presbyterian dances to an intoxicated crowd, while in a state of déshabillé. I am sure you understand.

Re: Fallen London: Hello, Delicious Playgrounders
It seems to be (at least to me) the stat with the most content. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I rarely even particularly focused on it and still ended up 170/150/130/150 or so before I started simply grinding stats. Dangerous, especially, doesn't seem to have much to do.

Well, seeing as Persuasive (69) and Shadowy (44) are going to take a while to grind up as I get distracted, I've decided to invest some of my monetary efforts into saving up for a permit at the Bazaar. I wonder which'll come first, becoming A Person of Importance or getting a room in the Bazaar.
And is there any method as to how the titles after your name are given (the "Such and such is a blank and blank gendertitle" things)? I thought they were stat-based, but then I saw that I wound up with four of them.

Huh. I saw the further along people had four adjectives, but I figured passed 100 every stat would get one, rather than two for two. I wonder why they felt two adjectives were needed.
My stats (unmodified) are 35/34/33/36. Today marks the one week anniversery of my descent to the Neath.

Damn, the weekly storylet's skill challenge takes five actions a piece, but you get four echoes on each success.

I've been robbing drunks whenever I need money. 'An anonymous wretch' seems to average 50 primordial shrieks (worth one echo) per action. Sometimes more.

With the idea that most people have a high Watchful score simply because it has the most content, I would be curious as to which skills, from a roleplaying standpoint, most represent their characters.
Personally, I go for Watchful / Dangerous. A sort of Indiana Jones-esque archetype.Last edited by Luzahn; 2014-02-18 at 02:35 PM.

Re: Fallen London: Hello, Delicious Playgrounders
Far as I can tell, it's not very money-efficient. I've seen people line up reward cycles that give you 1.3~ echoes per action. (Usually it's "do things to prep, then cash it in with a big reward at the end".)
BTW, robbing drunks in Spite changes your Airs of London quality, which can be beneficial for certain things (like running an Orphanage, very Airs-dependent).
As for the stats which befit my character, that'd likely be Watchful and Shadowy. I came to the Neath for vengeance, and stayed for what lies in shadows, the secrets to be uncovered.Last edited by CarpeGuitarrem; 2014-02-18 at 03:05 PM.

Re: Fallen London: Hello, Delicious Playgrounders
That's only for people with really high stats, though. I guess for low-stat players, it might not be bad.
That said, it's perfectly possible to grind for 1.4 or even 1.5 echoes per action as a significant person. Currently, for really high persuasive, there's dancing at the Carneval that produces three 50 pence items for 1 action.Resident Vancian Apologist

I've just stumbled across a very interesting Bundle of Oddities result. Perhaps it would be appreciated by others with Revolutionary sentiment?

Forbidden goods! There's a manifesto of sorts, too, crudely printed... "This is not our city. Our city has departed. This is its crouching corpse. This is the shell accreted round it. We are overwritten by the Masters. They will forget us down into the ground. They will make of us lacre. The streets are dead, but let us remember them. Chalk their old names high! Let them be remembered in flame!"Last edited by Luzahn; 2014-02-18 at 05:48 PM.

The Ghostly Presence is fun, I just got that. And I don't think that I'll ever get to 40 with random rare successes, so the nice companions are probably out.
It's a bit sad, really. They are all quite flavourful, but I can't use companions who give less than +8 on a stat.Resident Vancian Apologist

Yeah; I'm just planning on acquiring a coterie of Neathly personages. I'm well-past the stat boosts given by them. My Scuttering Squad and Laconic Prodigy cover everything but Persuasive, and my Salt Weasel covers that.

Re: Fallen London: Hello, Delicious Playgrounders
Hmm, I wasn't quite thinking that Lacre is people!, I had initially assumed we were going the Body Snatchers route. The first bit makes more sense though, given the context.
"You see? This is why I support the Revolutionaries. Half of them might be dangerously mad bombers or socialists, but they're all we've got. And I wouldn't put any faith in the Devils. From what my Falcon has passed on, they've been working with the Bazaar since at least the Fourth City's fall. They know what awaits us.
Of course, this is also why I have the Zubmarine. I hear some Fourth City survivors are set up in the East. That might be helpful."Last edited by Luzahn; 2014-02-19 at 05:26 PM.

Re: Fallen London: Hello, Delicious Playgrounders
I chose to be closest to the constables when the option came up (I only have connection 2 with The Great Game, so I felt I didn't have enough to say I was closest to them), but after getting the "Cities that fell" card that said that the masters did pull the other four cities down too, I've decided to go for the overthrowing the masters route. Still prefer to support the constables over the criminals, although I do quite a few "repossessions" they wouldn't approve of.
