If you use a Tale of Terror! to pursue the Case of the Fidgeting Writer, you get a chain of items wherein you can either give up the item for something, or roll the dice and try to proceed.

What I want to know is, why couldn't one combine the Black Lens with the Nephrite Glass? That'd be something to see.

The Tale of the Fidgeting Writer, it is a bunch of matter of luck challenges starting with a Tale of Terror (inventory tab), where you can always abandon the story for an ever-increasing reward, or continue till the end in the hopes of something even better. I believe the Black Lens is a higher end reward from it. The Nephrite Glass is an exotica (like the counterfeit heads of saint John and giggling mandrakes).

She showed up on a rarer instance of the Feast of Roses card - you have to attend the Duchess's Ball. You get an Acquainted with the Captivating Princess and a Dreadful Surmise.

EDIT: Varen_Tal, I just got your letter (haven't logged on since a few days back). I tried the tutoring, but it says you're past 100, probably because of gear. (It seems that tutoring doesn't care about your base stat, just your modified stat.) This also means that, if you have stat-subtracting pets et al, you can train for longer.

It's not terribly difficult to grind 15 Masquing - every FotR card can get you 1-2 Masquing if you choose correctly.

I've been robbing drunks whenever I need money. 'An anonymous wretch' seems to average 50 primordial shrieks (worth one echo) per action. Sometimes more.

The option 'Take on all comers!' under 'Brawl at the Medusa's Head!' gives similar rewards, I got between 30 and 75 Primordial Shrieks.

I prefer The Wheel of Affection. On a failure: A Gift of Scorn (20 p or 1 Masquing, up to 5), small loss in Persuasive; on a success: 10 Romantic Notions, increase in Persuasive; on a rare success: 1 Memory of Light, 1 Antique Mystery, 1 Masquing.

I had similar worries, but it turns out you don't get any more Scandal if you're over 3 Scandal.
