Fallout Equestria: Blood and Pancakes (IC)

I'm just escorting a friend while she looks into the past of the city.

"Your people mean skeletons as the buildings of the city being cursed?" Doc asked Chiseled.

Sari seemed to take her time to answer Chisled words, carefully weighing what she was going to say in the back of her mind, not seeming to notice Supply Route or Doc Wagon's respective replies.

"Would you call this place a skeleton?" she asked, sounding as if she was putting to much though on the subject than what could probably be considered normal.

It would probably be of interest that the group was, ever so slowly, heading through the lobby again. It looked about the same as it did last night, but there was still not another pony in sight so far.

Chiseled nodded slowly to both Doc and Sari "So many were killed so quickly in the shadows of the buildings. My people have always believed that to die to the Wasting spells would curse a pony till the end of Light. To live so close to such tortured creatures is most unwise to my people. It is why we decided to leave behind the bones of the old and return to the roots of the land." he turned and gave a slight bow to Sari "I mean no disrespect Lady Sari, but while the wastes are harsh, there is still more life in them than in most buildings. Within I can not hear the winds, and no light but that what must be made by ponies penetrates. It is beautiful yes, but it still feels so empty." he gave a slight involuntary shiver before putting on a weak smile. "Regardless, there is much to learn here, and no curse will deter my journey to discover it."

"That does bring up an observation," Doc comments. "Where is everyone? The folks here didn't seem to be the type to sleep in."

Sari let out a little chuckle.

"Well, the ones with the guns certainly do not. Many of the ponies here do prefer to stay upstairs, though, as it is a little drafty down here and it's rare when they feel the need to leave."

She was heading to a large double-door entryway on the far side of the room, pace picking up slightly, when she answered Chiseled.

"Do you believe a few plants here and there might help?"

Sari, absent-mindedly, prodded the door open with a hoof, revealing the dining hall, and, most importantly, all the food.

There was big round table devoted entirely to pancakes, all looming into each other like delicious decrepit towers. Some looked like they had stuff in it, but all of the pony-high stacks of buttery bread gave off a smell that was noticeable on the opposite side of the room. A half dozen or so bottle of maple syrup were set aside on the same table, alongside a small tree's worth of napkins and a large thick slab of butter just resting on it's own plate.

For those who's tastes did not approve of sugar, the table next to the pancake-bearing one was decked with plates piled high with various fruits. Peaches and blueberries and strawberries and blackberries and cranberries and more all looked like little colorful gems on the table, looking plump and remarkably edible.

Supply Route waits politely for her host to get her meal first before grabbing herself a plate of various berries, particularly strawberries.

"They sure eat well here," Doc whispered to his companions.

Sari grabbed a collection of fruits with stems on them, because she can't hold a fork because she's a big horse and just shoving her big horse face into a plate of fruits would be uncouth, so after carefully scooping up a small variety of fruits she settled down to one of the tables off to the side of the room and waited.

The table had five spare seats, and she simply sat on her hind legs and tried not to look like she was trying to catch what the Doc was saying.

Doc tries to follow suit, picking a few things carefully to show proper manners. He sits down in one of the spare seats and waits for his companions before he starts to eat.

Chiseled stared at the tables in awe, "...plants yes, thank you." he replied to Sari completely distracted before making his way to inspect the huge quantities of food. He took heavily from the tables of fruit but went out of his way to sample some of the strange pancake foodstuffs before making his way to a table.

While the group was picking their things, Sari leaned over to whisper something at the doctor.

"I do try my best, but I cannot take all the credit."

Oh wow! Stellar can't remember when she last had anything that wasn't two-hundred years preserved. And the pancakes-! No, I'd better be good. One does have a figure to maintain after all! With longing glances at the heavenly stack of 'cakes, Stellar instead loads her plate with fresh fruit. It isn't long until the pancakes are completely forgotten, her face a picture of bliss.

"Thank you Sari, this has been most generous of you! Just what a mare needed."

Supply Route takes her time with the berries, slowly savoring each bite as she enjoys the meal.

Doc nodded and whispered back to Sari. "My compliments to your staff. Very generous."

Sari looked equally pleased at the general reactions of everyone in the room, and nodded politely at both Stellar and Doc Wagon. She had a big goofy grin on her face at Stellar's remark, notably.

"Eat as much as you like. I suspect we all have a long day ahead of us."

Pausing to nibble at her plate, she continued speaking in a light tone of voice.

"On the subject of tasks; traditionally, three is a reasonable number for this sort of situation. If you wish, I have an idea for one you could accomplish within the afternoon, possibly. The main advantage you would have in getting that done is that you would be away when those interested in meeting you with nefarious intent would be unable to meet you on their terms."

Doc took a few bites of the food on his plate, but listened intently on Sari's idea.

Sari, apparently believing that she wasn't going to get a direct answer, with everyone eating or about to eat, shrugged lightly and spoke.

"A member of this community by the name of Heavy Draft was once a well known adventurer of sorts, but due to old injuries he cannot travel far from his medical supplies. His eightieth birthday is coming up, and he has outlived his son and his wife, so his daughter wishes to cheer him up. I do believe I know of a thing that would do so, as he is enamored with pre-war history."

She paused, nibbled at her plate, and then looked up.

"There is a former governmental building a good walk from here that used to be the home of a band of ruffians for quite some time. Now, however, they have been removed, and according to some there is a sort of sub-basement that has been discovered since then, apparently filled with interesting objects. Alas, the place also has a rather unfortunate rad-roach problem, and as such few are willing to go and check on this claim. I would find it to be a good gesture for all involved to obtain a interesting object to give to Heavy Draft on his birthday, which falls within next week."

Radroaches? Okay that sounds too good to be true. Are the security systems still active or something? Supply Route says, wiping her face clean of strawberry juice.

"I certainly would like to help cheer this fellow up," Doc said. "Count me in on this little expedition."

Sari let out a little laugh at Supply Route's concern.


"All you little ponies expect betrayal and danger at every turn, don't you?"

More or less, Supply agreed. Particularly for jobs like this. If we go in prepared for things to go rotten, then if they do we're more likely to survive. If we're wrong? Then we squish a bunch of roaches and come back safely anyways. Being prepared doesn't cost anything.

"I think she was asking less about our preparedness and more about our paranoia," Doc mentioned. "Not that it hinders our ability to prepare for the worst." He smiled on that last part.

Paranoia doesn't exist in a world where the house you were promised a safe sleep in actually contains an ancient pony eating Peryton looking for a snack. Supply replied before gobbling a few grapes.

Sari laughed sheepishly after spearing a few blackberries and dipping them in some of the syrup pooled on her plate.

"That's a fair, if unfortunate, argument. If you want some sign of trust from me or any of my ponies, please, ask away. I feel that, at the very least, everyone at this table should be able to trust one another to some extent."

"Given everything I've been through with these ponies, I trust them," Doc said. "It is like Supply said. It's not paranoia if they're really out to get us, yet through the adversity we've all stuck together and watched each other's backs."

"Well, yes, that's all and good, but she is the pony with the swords who doesn't like me." Sari quipped, giving Supply Route a smart look. "For all I know, you all might trust everyone else in this building besides myself. I am not selfish at heart, but at this moment I would simply like to know if there is anything I could do to make everyone in this room trust me. I am quite flexible."

"You have been honest with us about our situation," Doc said, "And I think that is a good sign of your sincerity." He looked to his companions to see if anyone had something to add.

Don't feel bad, I don't trust anypony who has power over me. And that's the way I like it. So until this business of proving our innocence is done, I'll just remain on guard. Thanks for the offer though. Supply says, giving Sari a warm smile.

Sari blinked, as if she deeply concerned, before taking another bite of her meal.

"I suppose you have the right to do that. But that is a strange position to take here, I must say. Would you not trust, say, a healer, or a teacher? Your parents, perhaps?"
