Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXVII
Q 431 - Clarification
Ok, I should have made my question clearer. I don't want to use DMM - Ocular Spell, I want to pay the +1 cost, but use other MM.
Since DMM can only be used once per round, I was thinking something along the lines of DMM - Chain Spell and DMM - Twin Spell. On the first round of casting, I cast an Ocular Inflict LW with DMM - Chain. So that's the spell I have stored. In the next 8 hours, I proceed to cast (release) this spell, and then, apply DMM - Twin to it. So what I just did was cast a Twined Chained Ocular Inflict LW by spending, on two different occasions, a total of 9 turn attempts (4 for DMM Chain, and 5 for DMM Twin).
Does this work by RAW?Last edited by heavyfuel; 2014-07-09 at 10:36 AM.

Q 432
When (in the rare cases) that the order in which feats apply matters, what determines (by RAW) in which order they apply? Whichever was acquired first?

Re: Simple Q&A D&D 3.5 (by RAW) XXVII
A 432 So long as you follow the order for levelling up on pages 58-59 of the PHB (so feats from every 3 levels before bonus feats from class features) you can choose the order in which to take them in order to meet pre-requisites.
Level 1 is slightly different because the order for creating a character is a different order (page 6) but it is still race and class features before the level 1 feat.

You misunderstand: My question was regarding the application of effects, not the acquiring of feats.

No. The tarrasque has Int 3, and wild empathy only works on magical beats with Int 1 or 2.

Q 434
Are there any specific rules for throwing ordinary rocks as weapons? (i.e. not a Giant's rock hurling, but for normal medium sized humanoids).
Is it just treated as an improvised thrown weapon, and if so, what's the range increment.Last edited by Thurbane; 2014-07-09 at 11:10 PM.

Improvised Weapons
Sometimes objects not crafted to be weapons nonetheless see use in combat. Because such objects are not designed for this use, any creature that uses one in combat is considered to be nonproficient with it and takes a -4 penalty on attack rolls made with that object. To determine the size category and appropriate damage for an improvised weapon, compare its relative size and damage potential to the weapon list to find a reasonable match. An improvised weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a critical hit. An improvised thrown weapon has a range increment of 10 feet.

A 435 No.
You can get the penalties for use of improvised weapons down through various means, but you can never be proficient in improvised weapons because they don't fit into a category (simple, martial, & c.) wherein you could gain such proficiency.

Vaath from BVD.
Once a Vaath has established a hold (Improved Grab) and rolls a successful grapple check on the subsequent round, can it inflict both the claw damage and and use the Burrow into Flesh ability, or does it have to choose between them?Last edited by Jon_Dahl; 2014-07-10 at 10:44 AM.

A 435 - Addition
While you can't become proficient with them, there are a couple of feats in the War of the Lance book that allow you to negate the penalty, though there are some restriction. It's Improvise Weapon and the Greater version.

The claw damage is dealt automatically each round it holds its victim. You can also use the burrow into flesh.

Edit: Got home now. Checked the Rules Compendium on page 92: "If you’re successfully hidden with respect to another creature, that creature is flat-footed with respect to you. That creature treats you as if you were invisible"
So while they don't lose Dex bonus, they are flat-footed, which may lead to them losing their Dex bonus.Last edited by heavyfuel; 2014-07-10 at 09:38 PM.

Re: A 435 - Addition
War of the Lance is a Dragonlance book, and as such is outside the scope of this D&D-specific thread.
Re: A 437
There is no "may" involved in a flat-footed character losing their DEX bonus to AC. From the Glossary:flat-footed
Especially vulnerable to attacks at the beginning of a battle. Characters are flat-footed until their first turns in the initiative cycle. A flat-footed creature loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) and cannot make attacks of opportunity.Originally Posted by Dust of Disappearance

Q440: The Fire Half-Elf entry doesn't mention that they gain any of the Fire Race traits. Does that mean that they do not gain these? I'd say they don't, but I am not sure.

RE:Re: A 435 - Addition
Fair enough. I didn't know Dragonlance wasn't considered D&D.
RE:Re: A 437
I sayd "may" because uncanny dodge negates FF and the loss of Dex bonus. But yeah, if they are flat-footed, they will lose the Dex bonus.
A 440
No, they don't get all of the traits: "As a result, they have some of the elemental traits of their nonhuman parents-but not all of them."
So, they get +1 attack against water creatures and reduced penalty on saving throws. But that's it.Last edited by heavyfuel; 2014-07-11 at 11:34 AM.

The Called enchantment will teleport your armour or shield to you. Is there a similar enchantment for weapons? If not, is there a low-level wizard or cleric spell that will do so?
For Bonus points: Why cant you have a Called weapon??
