Speaking of, I didn't really think there were a ton of hints about the Julio Scoundrèl. I mean, the airship casting a shadow since its first appearance was clearly intentional, but I don't think there were many hints dropped about Elans plan overall. Malack's vampirism, definitely.

I agree. I think that, with the advantage of hindsight, it's easy to tell what Elan was doing, but I had honestly forgotten about that scene until Julio appeared.

It wasn't until I got the book with the higher resolution that I realized that the red squiggly lines on either side of the Blood Drop on the imperial emblem (see the podium in the gladiator arc for examples) are supposed to be heraldic red dragon supporters for the coat of arms.

Also, the map the Order looks at Girard's Decoy has some interesting hints about the future of the three card monte con. Sweat gets the Free City of Doom (per Tarquin), Reptilia probably goes to Tears, but after that they have nowhere else to expand. Meanwhile the EoB (which is bigger than the other two put together) has lots of space to the west.

Reading BRitF in print for the first time, I'm noticing that Rich was dropping hints about Malack's Vampirism all over the place. Bloodwort tea, him needing a "special diet" in 743...

Yeah, I think that was one of the excellent things about the reveal. It took most people by surprise, but, as Elan says, there were like a ton of hints on it.

A lot of people thought he might be a vampire, but the scene in #750 where he drinks tea in the open sun was considered a counter.

I'm surely not the first to mention that illusion Redcloak had a patch on the wrong eye- but I just realized it myself. [Unanswered question: None of the OOTS has seen Redcloak since he lost the eye, and nobody they Send with on a regular basis seems likely to have mentioned it (it would be a waste of words in a 25-word spell); so why would the illusion show Redcloak with an eyepatch in the first place?]

The shopping expedition in Tinkertown is not the first hint we've had that Haley is a fan of magic wands. She seems quite happy when looting Z's pockets, too. "Ooo, wands!"

And I just had the horrible realization that Xykon and co. are already at Kraagor's dungeon. I had forgotten their teleporting away to the doorstep as the very last we saw of them.

Would you mind explaining that line of thought? I don't understand how Xykon could mean that in the context of the quote.

In "Hide and Seek" or "Tag", "It" refers to the player doing the seeking and/or tagging. If there's two people hunting one another, calling them both "It" is reasonable, and is the way I took the phrase at the time.

Also, when a group has been reduced, the remainder can be described as "it". "Well, since Dave and Brett left, and Kathy can't make it, it looks like we're it." O'Chul was down, and there was no one else, so V was "it". And Xykon was "it" as the seeker in Hide and Seek.

They may not have specified (or remembered) which eye, and Vaarsuvius wasn't in the illusion so that the illusion could use their memories.

It's an inside joke on the Index of the Giant's Comments. It's the reason why the current curator of that thread has a Banana in their profile and why it's named "We've Left a Banana in Charge".

Yeah. Shale missed the "d" in Bandana in the second Index of the Giant's Comments thread here, The Linker responded with a (since-scrubbed) image of a comic panel with a banana instead of Bandana, it was popular as a hilarious moment in an otherwise serious string of posts, Loreweaver15 jokingly(?) suggested "We've left a banana in charge" as the title for the next version of the Index of the Giant's Comments....Circumstances required me to start the next version of the thread earlier than expected, and I decided to go with the only thread title proposal (joking or otherwise) as the thread title. Because the thought of being a banana amused me.

Thanks for the link, Keltest, the Giant explains all. It also nipped in the bud my next question about that scene, so I don't look even more foolish in connection with it. Moving right along:

I never even noticed, until the second time reading through the print version (which I think makes the 6th time overall) that the heroes actually have lines in the panel where the purple worm first appears; their speech balloons are at the bottom left, and the worm just dominates the panel, so that "RRAAAARRRRRR!!!!!" was all I saw for a long time.

I also just realized that this comic (9th panel) is what Elan was referring to in the 7th panel of 905 when he says "This is just like the cactus fight all over again!"

Every caster has a color. All spells they cast are in that color. I believe they get to chose that color themselves. Unknown if you get two colors for multiclassing the same style of magic (eg. wizard/sorc), but Tsukiko did have a color for arcane and a separate color for divine (two shades of blue. Also, I'm colorblind, so you may wish to verify the colors yourself), and these were also the colors of her eyes.

Can't source any of it right now, but just trust that I'm right, 'cause I totally am.

All you were expecting from me was another seemingly significant, yet ultimately trivial citation. Like the way the poster for the gladiatorial games features a very surprised Roy, in his armor, being chopped in half by Thog, as "The Champion" (although by that point in the comic, we didn't know it was Thog yet).
