Cool and/or Explanatory Names Are Overrated - In Character

"We can always return at another point, after all the land seems to be well suited for a large settlement and thanks for not handing me over to the savages I guess." Sperr seems a bit unsure about how to sincere say thanks, before he begins moving towards the pickup spot.

Making your way back, you pass the corpses of the wolves, but nothing disturbs you. Waiting a number of hours at the cove for Jack's return is long, although not altogether unpleasant, if you can stop worrying about something being ready to ambush you from the bushes. As the sun sinks low, Jack returns. Looking at the state of the group he greets you by calling "What happened to you?"

Aeris looks up at Jack from his perch on a rock.
"It appears that there are some rather unfriendly natives living here."

"So there is something there..." Jack ponders. "Well, come aboard and tell me all about it."

[Archmage1]

Aeris climbs adroitly aboard the ship.
"Unfriendly natives are enough, unfortunately. We're explorers, not adventurers."

You arrive back in town as the sun begins to slip below the horizon. Most sailors are already unloading their catches, letting you off, Jack goes about unloading his own, asking you to fill him in on the details of your adventure later.

As everyone heads off of the boat, Aeris shakes his head as he limps along.
"That was less successful than I was hoping for. Much less successful. Do you want to try again, or would you prefer to go your separate ways?"

[Tjallen]

"Oh I still have a bunch of healing left, but that was way more fun than I thought it would be." Sperr reaches out and heals Aeris before adding: "We should be adventurers. That way we get paid AND we can explore places."

Aeris looks considerably relieves as Sperr's magic wipes away much of the pain he was in, but he shakes his head.
"Adventurers also risk their lives on a far more frequent basis. Explorers are much less foolish. Most adventurers die within a few months of deciding to become an adventurer. Explorers, on the other hand, can live for years, precisely because they don't enter monster infested ruins."

[Tjallen]

"Ah but the adventurers get to choose to explore whatever they want, where the explorers only get the boring things. Besides the world revolves around fighting anyways. Anyone need more healing? Still got a couple spells left."

Aeris shakes his head, not wanting Sperr to get himself killed.
"That isn't really accurate. Adventurers adventure where the adventures are, which are typically a long way from civilization, at least, if you want to make a reasonable return. While explorers can be funded by nobles, or various other wealthy individuals, a good explorer can explore where he chooses, and sell the information to adventurers. It's like mining: Rarely is it the miners that get rich. Rather, it's those that supply the tools they need, and those that market their goods that make the money. It also isn't the supplirs that mines collapse on."
At the offer of additional healing, Aeris tries moving his shoulder again, and soon winces.
"It seems that your spell healed about half of the damage that arrow inflicted."

[Tjallen]

"So we lead the adventurers to the deathtraps, get paid and blame them when they die? Sounds like a decent plan." Sperr grins as he pokes Aeris, more magic flowing into the wound.

Once more Aeris shakes his head.
"No, we just find the locations that adventurers would be interested in, map out the route, and possible dangers along the way, and sell that information to whomever wants to buy it. There is no need to go anywhere near deathtraps."

[Tjallen]

"Well, that does sound a bit less fun like adventuring, but then again if what we did today was exploring I am all for it."

[Archmage1]

Aeris smiles slightly, even as he shakes his head.
"What we did today was fail, nothing more, nothing less. We didn't even reach our goal, although we did learn a bit about our opposition."

[Tjallen]

"I reached some of my goal, finding out what I want. And I learned which spells would be useful and which I can switch out. Also we did find out that there is a hostile settlement and a secret settlement on the island, I am sure the local chiefs would like to know about the chance of a hostile encampment."

[Archmage1]

Aeris nods.
"Certainly, we can likely make some money from our failure, but the goal was to reach the lighthouse, and, unfortunantly, we didn't. Perhaps we should follow the coast next time."

[Tjallen]

"I thought you were against deathtraps? Because the wildlife was pretty terrifying. Also we proved ourselves as superior, they didn't even land a single lasting hit."

[Archmage1]

"And that's why adventurers pay explorers. We find out the threats, and how to avoid them. It just didn't work out this time. The trouble is that explorers need to be stealthy, and skilled at negotiation. As a group... we're not."

[Tjallen]

"I only got discovered by that one guy who lived because you guys suck at negotiating. If you hadn't intervened we would have been completely unseen."

[Archmage1]

Aeris shakes his head, quite certain that Sperr was incorrect.
"You'd been made, and they were pointing their bows at you, and pulling back."

[Tjallen]

"And look how that worked out for them." Sperr continues grinning looking quite amused.

[Archmage1]

"We failed at exploring. We managed to avoid dying from our failure, but it was still a failure, I'm afraid."

[Tjallen]

"Silver lining is we got to discover that I am above average in ability to kill weaklings and wolves. So yeah, good times."

[Archmage1]

Aeris just shakes his head sadly, still pained by their failure.

[Tjallen]

"At least we didn't spend a lot of gold getting there."

[Archmage1]

"True."
Aeris doesn't seem particularly pleased with the failure of their expedition.

[Tjallen]

"We could return tomorrow and kill some more natives, I am sure you can even get a few killing blows in!" Sperr chirps, incorrectly guessing at the reason for Aeris bad mood.

Aeris shakes his head once more, looking offended.
"We weren't there to kill anyone or anything. We were there to take a look at the lighthouse. Going back, I think we'll just follow the shoreline. I didn't see any cliffs or bluffs on the way over, so we should be able to manage that."

[Tjallen]

"So we got some unintentional exercise. So we are going to agree to help take out the beasties if we meet the other faction right? Better to be decided already."
