    Flynn steps to the side, angling for a target, and begins an epic tale of derring-do to inspire his teammates. Lee dashes out of the melee, but turns back and plants an arrow into the flank of the beast on Lorelei (9 damage). Merek plants a solid strike to the underside of the jaw of the creature in front of him (9 damage), but cannot plant his second such strike. Kith steps up and heals Merek (+3 HP (no need to roll concentration checks for positive spells)), while Lucas slips behind his target, and just fails to penetrate the thick hide of the beast. Lorelei deftly wriggles free of the creature's grasp and steps backwards out of melee.

    The first tatzlwyrm, angered by the arrow, turns and charges Lee! It pounces upon the slayer, and connects with its bite attack (4 damage), but fails to wrap up the burly man or connect with either swipe of its claws. The second attacks the monk once more, failing to connect with its bite and one claw, while scoring a glancing blow to the monks midsection with the other rake (2 damage).

    Flynn stays put, and neatly plants an arrow into the first beasts flank (4 damage). Lee steps backwards and just misses the same one. Kith sees an opportunity to get past the dragons to the moss, and makes a break for it! Meanwhile, Merek takes a quick step back, and throws a shuriken into the jaws of the second beast (7 damage). Sensing its distraction, Lucas makes a thrust with his spear, and neatly skewers the beast, just behind the base of the skull (13 damage - kill). With a sudden jerk, it stops moving, and falls to the ground, pulling the spear from Lucas' hands as it goes! Lorelei moves to the first beast and slashes it across the back (6 damage). The creature hisses in pain, and flees! Lorelei makes another attack at the beast's fleeing back, but misses. The creature disappears into the underbrush at the northeast side of the clearing.

    Kith approaches the base of the tree, just as the last remaining tatzlwyrm dives into the underbrush. With a few moments of respite, she quickly confirms that this is, indeed, the elder moss you're looking for. With just a few more moments, she harvests some of the moss, storing it in one of 3 small vials Laurel sent her with.

    It quickly becomes apparent that the tatzlwyrm was not intending to attack the party again, the clearing is (for now) a safe place to rest.

    the creatures were "tatzlwyrms," a relatively undeveloped ancestor of more dangerous dragonkin. They still posess their larger cousins tendency for hoarding, but I'm their more bestial nature, tend to do so with the bones and remnants of their prey.

    Lorelei gingerly cleans her blade in the earth before sheathing it, eyes still blazing in anger mixed with satisfaction.

    I think it's a poor idea to make camp without ensuring that there are no more assailants laying in wait. She looks accusingly at the branches shadowing the giant tree.

    The tatzlwyrm doesn't have any valuable belongings on it. The tree looks easy to climb, but you can't see anything interesting from the ground. There are LOTS of low-hanging limbs, sufficient in size to hold a grown man, with abundant handholds. The tree is very tall...

    This is the moss we are looking for. One item down, two to go! I hope I've collected enough for a batch large enough to treat the entire town...but if not, at least now we know exactly where to find it. Having collected the moss, Kith goes back to Merek to help tend his wounds. No more quick fixes until tomorrow, Merek. For today, you'll need to knit back up the longer, more painful way. Once she finishes patching him up as best she can without spells, Kith eagerly begins examining the tree...beginning with what she can see of the root system and the bark. She collects a few small samples of bark and leaves to put in her backpack alongside the moss. She mutters quietly to herself as she studies the tree and moss patch. I should have thought to bring supplies for properly drying leaves...these will almost certainly dry out and crumble to pieces before we return to Laurel... I guess I can do a rubbing, but that isn't nearly as helpful...It'll have to do. There must be something about THIS tree for the moss to ONLY grow here, but what?? She proceeds to get out parchment and jot down her observations, a few sketches of points of interest on the tree - including the moss patch, and a leaf rubbing to get a perfect image of the leaf preserved to show Laurel. Temporarily satisfied, she carefully packs all of these things away again into her backpack.

    Lucas looks up from wiping the wyrmblood off of his spear. "Treasure, you say? Leave it to me! Here, hold this!" Jumping up, he tosses the spear to Flynn and gazes up the enormous trunk, mentally charting a path up the branches. Adjusting the knife sheaths at his wrists and shortspears on his back, he starts to climb...

    Lucas had no trouble with the lower branches, and quickly rises to a point where the branches and boughs fully hide him from sight. He continues climbing, and as the branches diminish in size, they increase in density and frequency, allowing the young rogue to quickly attain a height he has never before experienced.

    "He's alright, Lee," Flynn says, smirking. "Though I wasn't exactly expecting him to go up so high so quickly."

    He then takes the time to look around the ground and roots, looking for the best place to lay down and let Merek rest safely.

    Take 20 for a 27 to search the clearing carefully, as well as the most immediate 10-15 feet into the trees to find the most comfortable, safest, and easiest to defend spot in the area.

    Once he finds the spot he helps Merek to make his way to the spot and rest, using the items in monk's pack to help him get comfortable. "As bad off as Merek looks, we need to let him rest. Tomorrow morning we should use Kith and my magic to help him recover and get going again," he announces definitively.

    Lorelei scoffs at the rogue leaping through the branches, and seems to notice her own bruises and scrapes for the first time. Probing at them gently, she scowls in pain and annoyance before looking around for a root against which to lean.

    Flynn's shoulder is the only thing keeping Merek upright as he stumbles along to the spot. As Merek lays down to rest, he shoots a grateful a glance at Flynn, and grunts in agreement with what he said.
