Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
I know this is a little late, but I'm having trouble submitting my turn due to the electric company shutting down the power for a day and the internet company doing some work so the network is really slow to the point I can't submit my turn. Would it be alright to extend the timer? Or if the turn could be reverted back to my turn? I have a little time critical thing I need to do that I can guarantee the computer will screw up if it takes control of my units.

Yeah. Still having internet issues. They'll definitely be done by Sunday, so will it be possible to set it up for me to take my turn on Sunday evening by the latest?

This must be starting to feel like Groundhog Day from the perspective of our civilizations, but I have reverted the turn again.

Techwarrior has been skipped every turn since we restarted this game after the crash. Does he know it's still going on?

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
My apologies. Real Life came out of left field and wound up taking almost everything I had. Honestly, I'm just barely getting everything back together at this point, and I can't really be sure when it's going to let up. I've thought several times that it had for a day or two, only for everything to fall apart again mere hours later.
I don't mean to dump my life or problems on you all though, so what I really wanted to point out is that this is pretty much the first time that I've been able to come on and post. I'm going to go figure out how to manually remove myself from the GMR game so that I'm not holding you guys back anymore. If things get stable enough that I think I can actually get involved again, I'll say something, but I'll probably just lurk and see how things go.
Good luck to everyone, and I truly am sorry for the situation.

It was giving me GPuzzle's turn when I loaded the save, so I'm trying to revert it now.

That's weird. Shouldn't it have noticed it was my turn?

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
Dear GPuzzle of the Celts
It is with heavy heart that I must inform you that our expeditionary forces have come across a group of your unprotected civilians in the wilderness. For their own safety, we have taken them into protective custody where they will receive whatever humanitarian aids they might need.

I really hate to be "that guy", but an unprotected settler left next to my scout was a large prize than I could resist. Sorry
Everyone: Should we attempt to find a replacement for Techwarrior?

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
To Mr. Dada of India
This is an act of agression and violation of the sacred Celtic lands, and it will not be taken lightly. The Celtic people are rallying themselves, from the hunters to the crusaders.
Prepare for war.
Spoiler: To Assyria
You should be reaching your siege towers soon. India's way more easy to take than me, there's a lot of jungle and forest as well as a series of mountains between you and me. Shall we declare war within 15-ish turns?
Yeah, why not. 8 people is more fun.

Spoiler: To Assyria
Great king Neon Knight of Assyria
Your mighty empire now reaches the northern coast of our continent, and as such our expeditionary forces find themselves stuck in foreign lands. We humbly request passage through your lands so that our citizens may return to their homes.
Best regards,
Dada of India

I've taken the liberty of using that, hope you guys don't mind. Looking through Techwarrior's spoilers now, if Poland's previous administration had any agreements I should know about please send me a message.

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
Spoiler: SpectatorsThis is the island of Poland:
Pretty good location, all things considered. Enough room for four nice cities, plenty of pastures to make Ducal Stables more than worthwhile, and naturally defensible against anyone other than England. It's pretty much perfect for teching quietly, unnoticed by all. Poland can into space, after all.
Unfortunately:
Yes, this is Liberty, fully unlocked except for the most important policy. This is pretty bad. I prefer having a few buff cities and thus dislike Libertyon principle, but I've been decently succesful with it against the AI. However, that was by rushing to get the extra settler, spamming as many 1-pop cities as I could support, and then conquering my neighbours before they outtech me. Unfortunately this is not possible here, for a number of reasons: Chief among them being that we're in a frigging island, and thus unable to aggressively expand early enough to make Liberty worth it. But even if we were on a continent with a bunch of neighbours it would probably be too late, since by this turn a Tradition start should have two or three cities, and a proper Liberty four or five. This is evident in the demographics (posted below), where we're last or close in every single category. I can honestly not tell what Techwarrior's strategy was. He (correctly) identified Domination and Culture as the hardest available winning conditions, but for some reason he decided not to turtle up with Tradition and gun for Science. Even more buffling is that fact that by the time he got the first policy his scouting should have shown there's a good chance Poland was on an island, and Liberty was not a proper choice. I'll have to think about how to proceed from here. Thankfuly, the slow pace of the game will give me plenty of time to do just that.
The good news:
Warsaw is as good a capital as one could hope for, with a good location, a great pantheon, and Stonehenge to make sure we get a religion far, far before anyone else.
The bad news:
This will be a challenge. Luckily, I like challenges.

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
Spoiler: NarkisI hadn't actually gotten to the point of choosing a policy tree when I became unable to play. My last turn had just barely been to conclude that I was on an island and that I would need to tech up. Had I been able to select a policy, it would have been Tradition at that point.Avatar courtesy of Ceika.

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
Spoiler: NarkisAt this point, it'd probably be in your best interest to either hole up and tech anyway, relying on Poland's policy gain to get Tradition anyway, or to tech Fishing and spam out into the nearest islands. There is also nothing preventing you from doing both. Poland's kinda awesome like that.Avatar courtesy of Ceika.

Re: Civ 5: GMR 8 - A Beyond Earth Prequel (G&K, BNW)
Spoiler: TechwarriorYeah, there's no other alternative. It'd be almost hopeless for almost any other nation, but Poland is awesome indeed. I'm hesitant to reverse course since that'd sacrifice Poland's ability and I doubt it'll be enough to let us catch up. Not ruling it out yet though. In the meantime I did switch to fishing, the screenshots were from before. Gotta do some scouting fast. Many thanks to Assassin 89 for this avatar!
