Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
Ran a pretty fun session the other day. It started with the players blowing themselves up. Astromech PC attempted the Bad Motivator mechanic check to disarm a bomb, ended up with a Triumph & Despair, with all successes & advantages cancelled out. Due to some quick thinking they survived.
They had a temporary alliance with the crew of a Rogue Imperial destroyer but that was botched by the PC's when the Inquisitor they thought they'd killed (returned through lots of cybernetic surgery) had returned & had them freaking out & on the run. They loved it.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
Oh the joys of a GM allowing the PCs to hurt each other more than he/she ever could. =)
My players rolled 5 Despairs the other night. Cybernetic legs, a hover-sled, and a large gun got the PC pinned during a stealth check. Another PC with a jetpack flying down a small hallyway with a lightsaber "dis-armed" cybernetic PC a couple rounds later. Shock boots, a vibrorapier, and those same Cybernetic legs shorted out and the PC slumped down on an enemy ... an enemy he just defeated in a duel with one arm. Triumphant Despairs are awesome! LOL
Anyways, thanks for the story! Always awesome when the players love it! Well done!

Woo-hoo! I FINALLY got some of my friends to sit down and start a game in this system! Character building was Friday, and our first session is this Friday.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
I'm GMing, and we're doing a mix of Edge and Force. Alderaan has been blown up, but we're not sure about the Death Star.
Five players:
- T1-M26, a droid Colonist (Entrepreneur) who worked for a tax collector and was skimming off the top for years, who booked it to the Rim when his planet was close to a revolution;
- An unnamed Twi'Lek Sentinel (Shadow) who's a street rat from Nar Shaddaa focused on stealth and being a manipulative minx;
- Alexander Blocle (Smuggler [Pilot/Scoundrel]) and Shorwarr (Seeker [Hunter]), doing their best Han and Chewie impression;
- And Wap, a Verpine Guardian (Peacekeeper) who is the only Force-Sensitive who is aware of the nature of their powers, and wants to restore the honor of the Jedi."It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale." --Iroh

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
Had a fun session the other day. Some highlights in no particular order.
The PC's had a standoff amongst themselves regarding the loyalty of an Npc half of them wanted to protect & the other half wanted to kill.
The PC's had to protect a Rebel Ambassador on a space station that went through an Imperial takeover.
Had to help a Doctor running a secret medical facility in the lower levels of a space station develop a vaccine against a plague amongst the alien species, the Empire forced into the lower levels.
I know it seems like a lot, but the dice were triumphantly in the PC's favor for that session.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
My group & I ran through the (Edge) Beginner's Box last weekend, much fun had by all. Looks like we're going to give a longer campaign a go, starting with the Long Arm of the Hutt.
The party decided not to steal the Krayt Fang like the module expected/suggested, but to hijack the Imperial Shuttle at the other landing pad instead, taking the key hyperdrive part for the Krayt Fang with them as they fled the system... I like the narrative style of the system and I think my group—which is 3/5 novice RPG folks—will do well. I have a couple questions if anyone could weigh in...
1. Can anyone comment on the value of the various supplements to the experience? I'm having a hard time figuring out if I "need" the Core book and all the 5 (Edge) supplement books to really make things work.
2. Any thoughts on reining in a compulsive min/maxer? This is a guy who only plays two-handed weapon fighters in PF because of optimal damage. Gotta try to keep him from attacking Edge combats like PF dungeon-crawl combats and keep him in character.
Anyway, glad I found this thread!Generation 6

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
If you want to create new characters from the beginner's box adventure, then you'll want to get one of the core books. You really don't need the sourcebooks / splatbooks to enjoy this game. If you haven't seen the Long Arm of the Hutt free follow on adventure from FFG for the beginner's box, you should and will have a few more sessions in store for you.
I must admit that I haven't seen the stealing the Imperial shuttle as a resolution to this adventure. Well done!

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
I don't have all the sourcebooks for Edge but for those I do have, I rather do enjoy them. If you're Edge focused, they aren't a bad investment & signature abilities can be fun, they add gear & vehicles that are geared towards their career focuses & you get 3 additional species per sourcebook. They also offer other Obligations for the specific careers, and a potential background detailing how the specific specialization may fit into the galaxy, through that background.
As for system abuse, as far as combat goes that I've seen, brawling specialists that dip into the Doctor career for strain abuse & recently jury-rigged talent & auto-fire.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
Just finished a game about two weeks ago, it was fun. Started originally as one shot trial run of Edge, we adapted other parts of the ffg Star Wars line as play progressed, over all everyone had a blast.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
So I got a physical version of FaD awhile ago, but am thinking of running a game with more than just Jedi so I want to get Edge of the Empire and Age of the Rebellion. Thing is...it would be kind of inconvenient to lug three books to each session so I was thinking of buying the pdf version of AoR and EoE but...I couldn't find any? Like the FFG site seemed to only be selling the hardcopies.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
I've heard two stories about that, nothing official. The one that I favor, simply due to how marvelously stupid it is, is that Fantasy Flight doesn't have the license for Star Wars computer games, meaning they're not allowed to sell PDFs of game books. The more boringly credible rumor is that Disney doesn't allow PDFs, due to fears of piracy.
Since FFG sells PDFs of so many of their RPGs, I don't really expect to hear anything about it being their choice.

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
A year and a half later, the career splatbooks are out for all lines, and FFG is taking about campaign setting splatbooks.
So who's still playing, what have you pulled off lately, interesting campaign concepts, what have you got?

Re: Edge of the Empire General Discussion Thread
Currently GMing Mask of the Pirate Queen for my group. It's a fun module, even if the second act is a little all over the place. Even allowing for a session or two completely off the rails, we should be able to run the climactic third act as an all-day session in March.
The Wookiee Starfighter Ace/Seer/Ataru Striker is excited about the Warrior signature abilities, but everyone else is pretty content to just add XP as they get it and stay to stuff that was available back when Edge of the Empire first released.
I do have to say, I'd love a Force and Destiny campaign, but Edge definitely gets my creative juices flowing more than the other lines. Both AoR and FaD classes often feel too narrow outside of campaigns built around those themes. Edge fits anywhere though! And most of the fun min-maxing stuff was available at release. Every now and then you got a few new pieces of gear (I need to get my hands on Cyphers and Masks!), but mostly it was rearranging talents we already had in fun but not game-changing ways. My favorite trees were the ones that added cool talents that let you do things you couldn't do before.Awesome avatar by starwoof
