Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Are you going to pick a civ, or just go random? I can see you in the sign-up, but it does not show a civ.
Thanks.
As to map: anything but Earth and I would like barbarians to be on.
Oh, and Daylight Savings Time seems to have screwed me up. I'm actually GMT-5.Last edited by Kesnit; 2014-12-02 at 06:59 AM.

All done. I'm sorry for the delay everyone.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
I'll start the game tomorrow morning. I had every intention of starting today, but work kept me longer than expected and I was ready to drop when I got home.
Regarding map, it looks like the options are "Pangaea" and "Continents." My preference would be "Continents," but will go with what the group wants.Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
I do have them, but do see where they can be disabled. (They aren't scenarios, but just rearrange things on maps.) Let me see if I can revert to my turn and recreate the game without them.
Are there any other DLC's anyone doesn't have that can I (hopefully) deactivate?Last edited by Kesnit; 2014-12-04 at 05:28 AM.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
So, I know that it is my turn and I'm not sure what the issue is but the game won't let me load my turn for lack of DLC. I know that I have G+K, BNW, Conquest of the World, Explorers Pack, Mongolia, Denmark, Spain/Inca, Polynesia, Babylon, and Korea. That comes from my in-game DLC list. Even if I don't have the Cradle Scenario packs, that shouldn't matter, should it? And I know I don't have Scrambled Continents/Nations but I thought those were disabled. The only one that I think I'm missing would be Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario Pack, which I can grab real quick.
Is everyone else on the same page DLC-wise? I know I said in my original post that I have all of the Civ DLC packs, but I didn't think the Scenario packs mattered as much.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
I believe this one requires the Ancient Wonders pack. If you hover over the 'DLC' section when trying to load the game, it'll tell you everything the game requires.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
This may be the best idea, since there may (may) be another issue. When I set up the game, I had to set an AI Civ (since there are 7 players and the game allows 6 or 8). However, I didn't include an AI player in GMR, and since I had already started the game, I couldn't go back and add one. I don't know if that will screw with GMR or not.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Hopefully it isn't that unforgiving.
Edit: You can manually adjust how many players are in a game in the advanced options. The maps themselves are built to support X amount of players, but you can have however many people in those maps you desire, it just gets a bit silly if you're trying for 12 players on a 2 player map.Last edited by Arcane_Snowman; 2014-12-05 at 03:17 PM.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Okay, I see the DLC section now. I went ahead and grabbed the Ancient Wonders scenario pack, so that will no longer be an issue. Apologies for the long delay! Also, thank you for the quick responses earlier, they were very helpful.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Spoiler: SpectatorsTurn 1: The Birth of Mother Russia
Behold, the city of Moscow!
I'm pretty pleased with this starting location. Lots of wheat means a fast start to the city's growth, and there's a total of 4 luxury resources in reach. Wine and dyes aren't ideal as starting luxuries go (I tend to prefer resources which boost production, salt and sea resources and stuff that requires mines) but I certainly don't object to them either. Might be worth trying to grab monasteries and... is there a pantheon belief which gives bonuses for wine? I feel like there probably is.
So. Going straight for pottery (as usual). Granary will be my first priority as soon as it's available, probably followed by a shrine. Further planning will have to wait until after I've explored a bit.Avatar by GryffonDurime. Thanks!

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Spoiler: Spectators
Well, my start could have been better. I really hate not settling on the first turn, but there wasn't much of a choice. I had no river, no hill and not a single food resource without moving south. At least the extra production should allow me to catch up fast to those who didn't spawn on a hill, four different luxuries in close proximity, including the all-important marble, should give me the edge in the early game, and there's a chance I'll get lucky with that ruin. Fingers crossed!
Since I also play last, it falls to me to give you the occasional score update, along with my expert (hahaha) commentary:
Me and Magentawolf are in a similar boat in the last place, though hopefully not for long. I'm sure someone more experienced would know why arcane_snowman is so far ahead, but I have no clue. I don't think even a free tech from his first ruin would give him 8 points.
edit: Of course, the Shoshone start with extra territoty. That should do it,Last edited by Narkis; 2014-12-06 at 10:47 PM.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
The Dutch have landed!
Spoiler: SpectatorsUnfortunately, our cartographers were busy researching "what the hell did we bind screenshots to", so we do not have a ready map of our environs. (Maybe next turn.) We have founded our first city on a peninsula, just south of the chilly tundras, and see a rather unremarkable plain and a farther-off desert. (Not a great start—no river, no mountain, few land-based resources. At least there was wheat on my starting tile.) On our way in, we saw plentiful marine life, which should be enough to feed our people. (A fish tile and two whales in close proximity, with another fish within range around the peninsula.)
Now that we have established a foothold in the New World, our first priority will be to build shipyards to take advantage of the seas. After that, we plan on focusing on national defense before taming the land.
(In other words, Pottery → Sailing to start working towards fish and whales, then Archery and Mining → Bronze Working to hold off barbarians. I don't usually play with barbs on, which led to losing my initial warrior and almost my first scout to a badly-timed spawn in the other GMR game I'm in.)

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Spoiler: SpectatorsUpdate in case anyone cares: The ruins gave me Animal Husbandry, revealing Horses in the grassland directly north of Athens, and settling revealed a hills Gem west of the Wheat. I'm feeling much better about my start now.
Score after everyone's settled:
And demographics, for the heck of it:

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Spoiler: SpectatorsHere it is, a bit late to the party, but what can you do.
Seeing as we're playing on a lower difficulty, I'll probably be building a Settler as soon as the worker is done, as I won't be going into negative happiness.

Re: Civ 5: GMR in the Playground 11: Settlers RULE!
Finally got a log started! The Maya are in for the Long Haul.
Spoiler: For the SpectatorsThe first day, Palenque was settled and construction was started on a Shrine. I thought about moving further along the river but decided that I was fine right where I was. I moved my warriors to the North and had them climb a hill in order to see better.
The second day, my warriors moved North again and spotted some ruins close by. They decided they would investigate at first light.
On the third day, the Warriors investigated the ruins and found someone living there. They were allowed into the city of Palenque on the condition that they would help work the land. Progress continued on the Shrine.
I'll post pictures once I figure out how toLast edited by Raynfalldown; 2014-12-08 at 01:37 PM.
