The dome went down and it was showtime! Sure the elementals were big and everything but they'd beaten them before and he had no hesitation that they could do it again. As far as he was concerned the biggest threat was the summoner himself, kicking up the dust beneath his feet Avery barrelled towards the nearest nearest window, throwing himself through it in a shower of glass to bring him face to face with Daryll.

"End of the road Daryll." He announced as he came to a stop "Between Brava, that big gravel pit of yours and your fake girlfriend at Adaros, we're three for three." Technically the Taskforce was 4 for 4 but Avery for the life of him couldn't remember the name of that guy from the hospital.

"Speaking of Adaros, wanna know what blunt force on the back of your girlfriend's head sounds like? I've been working on an impression."

Yeah he was probably pushing Daryll's buttons but that was the whole point, Avery could take a hit better than most so if he could get him to focus on him so much the better. Without wasting any more time Avery reached behind himself and pulled his mallet out of nowhere and swung hard at Daryll, sure it wasn't exactly a fridge but Avery never said it was a good impression.

    Round 1

Wraith's fists and feet passed right through the air elemental, seeing as how it was, you know, nothing but air. However, the Universe totally forgot whether or not Wraith actually had to make solid physical contact to deliver the effects of his powers or if he just had to make general contact to do it, and as was often the case when the Universe forgot how things worked around Wraith it just assumed the answer was in his favor. The air elemental promptly forgot Wraith was a factor in this fight despite having been punched and kicked by him not half a second ago. But I'm sure such a lapse wouldn't hinder it all that much...

    Meanwhile!

Darryll kinda scoffed at Prophet's call. "I hardly see how it could have possibly ended any other way!" he called back with sardonic calm. "But I shall make you all the same offer. Release the blocker and withdraw, and I shall not be forced to kill you all here!"

The divinely-augmented, expertly-piloted ACV's lightning blast tagged the fire elemental. When coherent energy met coherent energy the forces keeping them coherent tended to be...reactive. Fire and electricity sprayed outwards, leaving the elemental just a bit diminished.

When Avery swung his mallet at Darryll...well. The master summoner didn't even move. But a golden-haired, bearded transparent figure, huge and heavily muscled enough to have been Brava's younger brother, just kind of materialized in the same space as Darryll occupied, and halted Avery's swing with one hand. Darryll raised an eyebrow. "So...you are saying I have nothing to worry about, then?" he asked.

The fire elemental dodged Kate's portals, fast as a flickering flame. Darryll himself briefly faded into transparently, momentarily entering a spirit form to allow them to pass right through him.

Hayseed barrelled into the house, crashing through one of the windows and racing around to flank Darryll. It was worth noting, this was probably the first time anyone in the Task Force had seen Hayseed since Darryll's attack on their loved ones. Hayseed had gone into hiding with her family, so that she would be right there if anything else threatened them. She had not left the base they had been placed in since, until today, for this mission. And um, Avery could see her face over Darryll's shoulder and...well. Hayseed had...she had never really looked quite like that. Normally, even an angry Hayseed was, you know, cheery. Terrifyingly cheery in a way that has been known to give ghosts nightmares, but still. Cheery. And, you know, expressive.

But right now, Hayseed's face was utterly still, utterly expressionless. No wild smile. No manic dancing in her eyes. She was as still and cold as a statue carved from ice. But even that stillness still managed to communicate...something. It was in how she was looking at Darryll. The stare was utterly flat, but still intense enough to melt steel. To say there was murder in the IN-SIDE agent's eyes would be giving it too much credit. Murder was a far more involved and complicated process than what was in Hayseed's eyes. Murder involved setting it up to look like an accident, covering things up in the aftermath, making sure no inconvenient questions got asked later, and then filling out a bunch of really boring paperwork in a really dark room. No no, Hayseed was not going to do Darryll the service of merely murdering him. Because in Hayseed's eyes, Darryll Harrens was no longer a person. He was no longer a human being. He was no longer even an enemy.

Darryll Harrens was a threat to her family.

So you know what? **** Hayseed. Cassie McCrae came running up behind him, waited for just the right moment when his little spirit guard was occupied with Avery's hammer, and swung her staff full force for the back of his head. Again. And again! AND AGAIN!

The fire elemental flickered into the room, though, shielding its master, ignoring the disruptive energies of the staff. The room got...very, very hot. Cassie hissed out an angry breath and threw down a smoke bomb, vanishing elsewhere into the house to plan her next strike in peace.

Darryll sighed and cast a spell, summoning up guardian spirits to seek out his enemies for his elementals to destroy, while channeling power into his personal guardian to strike out at Avery with a crushing blow of his massive fist.

The fire elemental pointed hands at both Avery and Kate, and filled the air around them with a storm of searing fire. The wind elemental, following the guidance of Darryll's summoned spirits, unleashed a volley of wind crescents at Wraith, the full power of a tornado packed into a razor-thin package. The earth and water elementals, clearly directed to put a stop to Prophet's supportive powers as swiftly as possible, double-teamed the Seeker, the earth elemental rushing him with a devastating slam and the water elemental straight leaping over the building to attack with a breathtakingly agile martial arts kata for such a large creature.

Aidan wasn't sure whether to be happy the elementals had utterly ignored him: everyone else was actually overall tougher than the ACV, to be honest, but at the same time letting the summons gang up on Prophet wasn't really optimal.

He maneuvered the ACV so as to reach ground level and line up with the Earth and Fire elementals again (there was a chance the door would hold, but he'd just have to take it), and again fired the electricity blaster before regaining altitude...but he boosted the thrusters' output so as to get it all done just quicker enough to allow him to also fire on the former with the incendiary machineguns before it could react.

With your every step, these grand adventures shall grow more distant and faint. And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way. On that day, I bid you remember this... That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there.

Wraith grimaces when he realizes the Wind Elemental has managed to shrug off his power's influence. Even worse is the damned spirit-things Darryl sent to stalk him. Very rude of the man.

He gives a silent thanks to Prophet as the Dream turns aside the crescents of wind from the Wind Elemental. His karambit knife shifts in his hand as he runs through the air. "Prophet, at this point, I think by this point Darryl's head is firmly up his own a**," he says, lining up with the newly-made hole in the building. He snakes his gauntlet's projected limb through the hole to aim directly at the Flame Elemental and fires off a barrage of projectiles made of his own Spiritual Energy right at the summoned being.

"I think that's the only way to explain this level of willful ignorance to his own situation," he finishes before slipping into the blind spots between the enemies' gazes.

Avery opened his mouth to snap back at Daryll but stopped himself "I just want you to know I've got a real zinger for you but I gotta deal with your pal here." He informed the summoner, tilting his head at the fire elemental "Unlike you we don't void people's security deposit just to prove a point."

In an instant Avery had discarded his mallet and was holding the business end of a fire hose.

    "Jerk."

    Round 2

The earth elemental ignored the lightning bolt - come to think of it that might have had something to do with grounding - but once again the coherent blast of energy proved effective on the similar substance of the fire elemental, sending much of its flame scattering and leaving it momentarily open.

"And you clearly did not listen at all when we met," Darryll responded to Prophet, at the suggestion that he didn't fully understand that Tara's plan was wrong and probably crazy.

However, Prophet felt his power take hold on the Earth elemental. He wasn't in full control yet, some power of Darryll's had a direct controlling influence on the elemental, and Prophet's hold was still only tangential. But he was making good headway.

Wraith capitalized immediately on the fire elemental's vulnerability, blasting it with his spiritual energy until it forgot how to fire. I don't mean, it forgot how to fire projectiles at people. I mean forgot how to fire! The elemental flickered and wavered, seeming to shrink in on itself.

Giving Avery the chance to blast it full-force with a fire hose. Now you might think, come on, a fire hose? This thing is a 60' tall living inferno! And, not to put too fine a point on it, but it doesn't actually have any fuel that it would care about being wet! So unless you're planning to output enough water to completely cut it off from all of the oxygen, that's not going to do anything! And that would be a fair assessment, if not for three things:

    1) This was Aranth.
    2) This was a Dreamer.
    3) This was AVERY!

The laws of physics didn't even raise a hand. There was nothing left of the fire elemental but steam! ...And a little incongruous stream of gray smoke.

Kate's portals went whipping for Darryll, aimed true, but the wind and water elementals rushed to defend him faster than he himself could dodge, knocking him from their paths. They got some of their own mass teleported elsewhere, but it was nothing they couldn't take.

"Hmm...no," Darryll answered Kate, seeming unperturbed. "I concede, I misspoke. I did not mean to suggest my actions and choices here would not be my own responsibility. However, it was your decisions to force this personal conflict in a way that rather requires it go to a final conclusion. If I were able to withdraw, my tactical options would be more flexible. But as things stand, given my own decision to put killing all of you on the table, I am hardly in a position to anything else at this point, from a strategic perspective." ...Ya'll probably weren't here for a lecture on ethics (or an appalling lack thereof, as the case may be). But evidently that's what you get when you face Darryll Harrens.

However, Darryll's pontificating gave Hayseed the perfect opportunity to sneak back in and suddenly reveal herself in the best way possible. With copious amounts of fire! Twin energy pistols in her hands, she fired shot after shot, unloading both guns rapid-fire and with quick-twitch aiming, every pull of a trigger launched a focused red bolt of compact fiery energy at Darryll or one of his elementals.

    "AHHHH-H-H-H-H-H-H-"

And she was screaming, screaming like a banshee with every-

    "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

No, no wait, that wasn't screaming, that was laughing, laughing maniacally as-

    "HAHAH-H-H-H-H-H-H-HAHAHAHAHAHAH-H-H-H-H-H-HH!!!!!!!"

It was...it was both...she was both screaming madly and laughing maniacally as she unleashed enough fire to build a whole new giant elemental out of and actually she might have been crying just a little bit too...

    ...

...When the guns' safety systems enforced a cooldown, it turned out that only the wind elemental seemed to have been damaged at all, and even then not really that much.

"[IT IS A VERY GOOD THING MARSHA AND JULIE ARE NOT IN THE ROOM I WILL TELL YOU THAT!]!!!!!"

Hayseed rushed back out of immediate line of sight, but the water elemental gave chase, seeking to neutralize the threat that had unleashed fire upon it with extreme prejudice. It drew upon the extra power its master had invested into it, and unleashed a torrent of water on Hayseed, aiming to hammer her with the full force of the sea, erode her defenses, and trap her in its body to drown her!

Wind swirled around Darryll, and he flew from the house, over to the earth elemental. He laid a hand upon it. "No," he said, as spirits of water flowed into his minion, seeking to purify and free it of Prophet's control.

The Earth elemental raised up its arms, and the ground tore free, huge clods of earth rising up, up, up into the air, and coming crashing down on Aidan and Prophet.

The Wind elemental gestured at Kate, sending a bolt of lightning at her. The bolt chained over to Avery, from there out of the house towards Prophet, and then arcing up at more-or-less where it remembered Aidan's ACV being.

Wraith sends his projected arm out, curling in winding formations and into Darryl's blind spots. "And if you were able to run, tail tucked between your legs, thousands could suffer for it," Wraith yells in anger. "I'm curious, does Tara even appreciate how far removed you are from what you once were?"

He strikes out with his karambit knife, now a bright sky blue blade springing from its hilt. Any magical abilities Darryl possesses, the knife seeks to sever. And though it causes Wraith low-grade, persistent pain, the magic won't return until Wraith falls or switches focus.

The rain of rocks battered the ACV, overloading the forcefield just enough for the lightning bolt to breach it and hit the flame blaster: the sudden power surge was more than the protections systems could handle, and a couple of power nodes violently exploded inside the cockpit.

The ACV remained still for a moment as damage control rebooted several systems and Aidan himself regained his bearing, but then the laser cannon powered up and fired an energy bolt at Darryll.

    "Hayseed!"

Now don't get Avery wrong, out of all the people in the building, the SIDE agent was still the one that scared him the most (if she wanted you dead the first time you'd know about it would be when you were coughing up blood, compared to that Daryll's warning shot was practically sporting) and she definitely had moves but at the end of the day she wasn't a Dreamer. Which was why he was floating inside the clutches of the water elemental.

"Bubble! Glub bubble bubble glub glub!" He admonished Hayseed around the snorkel he was wearing, flailing expressively before he slipped from summon's grasp. Of course he still had his manners and left the water elemental something to remember him by, the real question really was where he even found a sea mine....

"No. Its you who haven't been listening," Prophet answered. His tone was firm, like the nimbus that surrounded him as he floated to the ground. "Don't mistake my compassion for weakness in the same way you've confused love and servitude. Anyone can change, and I won't reject anyone who wants to try. Kate opted not to speak further- Darryll clearly wasn't going to listen in any case. Round 3

Wraith's projected blade passed right through Darryll...but it struck his magic squarely. The portion of Darryll's Spiritual Energy that seemed to shift into different shapes, Wraith struck and sundered, blocking its flow. There was more to it, Darryll's was a powerful spirit fueled by an uncompromising will. The shapes of his elementals seemed to flow away from Wraith's strike, and the monsters didn't vanish. But Darryll wouldn't be able to both maintain them and cast spells while Wraith's power lasted.

The...problem with that was that Wraith had kinda left himself open, while making himself a massive priority target.

But, you know...it would probably be fine!

Darryll managed to dodge just as Aidan's laser powered up, only taking a graze. Even without active magic, he moved with wind-blessed speed to avoid Kate's portals.

Back inside, Avery's sea mine did exactly what sea mines do! That is to say, float harmlessly in the water waiting for something solid to blunder into them. Hayseed rushed the elemental that had, not to put too fine a point on it, nearly destroyed her home, hurt her dog, and THREATENED HER FAMILY with precisely zero regard to her own safety. She didn't even waste the breath to thank Avery for shielding her, something she had pretty much never failed to do before in even the most heated of battles. That's right folks, you heard it here first, Hayseed's fury was so great that it transcended basic politeness. Repeated whacks of her disruptor staff caused only minor damage to the enormous elemental, but it did weaken its powers a bit as well.

"She does, in fact," Darryll answered Wraith. There was a tension in his voice. He was not as calm as he may have outwardly presented himself. But with two of his elementals already down and his active magic neutralized, how could he be? "She has told me more than once that I did not need to be a part of this. Even that I should not. But she needed my help, and so I offered it freely." Looking to Prophet, he added, "I am not sure what you are trying to convince me of. I have never questioned your rightness in seeking to bring us to justice. I merely question your ability!" With that last word, there was a flash in Darryll's eyes.

And his remaining elementals went berserk.

They flowed back outside, taking up shielding positions before their master, and cut loose. The air elemental sent a blast of lightning chaining among Wraith, the ACV, Prophet, and Kate, and then followed up with razor-thin crescents packing the full power of a tornado within them. The water elemental lashed out at Wraith, Prophet, Hayseed, and Avery with hydraulic tendrils of eroding water. Lightning crackled between the two elementals, as the elements of the storm came together to unleash their fury upon the heroes.

Okay, Wraith really needs to treat Prophet to, like, an all day spa treatment or something. At least a night of rounds at the Task Force's favorite bar. He feels the Dream's nudge guide him to dodge the incredible attacks from the elementals.

"Our ability?" Wraith calls out, letting some anger slip into his voice. "I feel like there's a clear tilt to the battle at this point, Harrens. And I know I--and Agent Hayseed--are quite looking forward to taking you into custody. I have it on good authority that she has outdone her already vastly-creative mentalities with regard to these kinds of things. As for me, well...I know there are things you would rather not forget. Memories you cherish. I cannot wait to strip them from you, piece by piece, until you look at Tara with a pit in your heart you don't even know why it's there."

The pure venom in Wraith's voice is tangible. At the end of his tirade, Wraith slips into their blindspots once more. With a grimace of effort he waits for the moment when the spark fades from the water elemental. In that split second, he strikes, aiming for the shapes within its Spiritual Energy to strip it of its magical abilities.

Prophet staggered back from the Elemental's blow. The Dream had mostly shielded him from the blow, but not completely. "Wraith, No." Prophet choked out.

The pure venom in the man's voice was unmistakable. Even as he called on the Dream's restorative power, the venom in the agent's voice disturbed Prophet. That it came from a member of the Task Force made it all the more so. "We need to stop Daryll, not become like him. Two wrongs don't make a right."

The ACV must have been outfitted with a faulty batch of surge protectors, because the lightning snaked its way through the circuitry again - and this time, it found the energy core. With a loud explosion, the thrusters died togehter with the rest of the systems, the emergency protocols barely able to slow the fall before the auxiliary batteries gave up too.

A moment later, Aidan disintegrated his way through the windshield and closed in on Darryll. "You are a fool, Harrens."

He let loose an uppercut, then followed it with a kick to try and sweep the summoner's legs out from under him. "You will both rot in prison, and your 'love' will have accomplished nothing." he added, grimly, before retreating to cover.

Avery was hammered by the water elemental's tendrils, sending him sprawling to the ground, but he wasn't out yet. Hacking up seawater he pulled himself to his feet and pulled his faithful mallet out from his sodden hat, on the plus side he was already drenched from his brief trip inside the elemental so he wasn't that bothered this time.

"You're getting sloppy Hayseed, get your head in the game! I get Daryll crossed the line but if you slip up here who's gonna protect your kids then?" Avery said, hoping he could get through the SIDE agent's murder frenzy "You need to calm down and get back to doing all the sneaky stuff you do that scares the hell out of me."

    Round 4

Wraith's threat...was not one that even Darryll Harrens could lightly ignore. He didn't really really react outwardly, but you could see it in his eyes, the flicker of uncertainty, of deadly hesitation.

Aidan came in hard with a disintegrating strike, but the air elemental whirled into the way. It was...kinda hard to tell if there was an effect, 'cause you know, made of air, and all, but the spirit did seem to waver some.

Kate hurled a barrage of portals at Darryll, but the shaman moved with wind-blessed speed, allowing him to avoid the attacks. Hayseed gritted her teeth when Avery spoke, but she swapped her staff for her guns before racing out, unloading a bombardment of radioactive blasts at the shaman and his elementals. The water spirit shielded Darryll, but even it couldn't block every blast, and Hayseed used the opportuning to ghost out around the house.

And then...the water spirit was just gone. And it was frankly hard to recall if it had ever actually been there. (Granted, it would have been the most plausible explanation for why Avery was soaking wet but frankly not the only one. Maybe he had paid a visit to Matt earlier today. You don't know!)

One elemental left, but it wasn't giving up easily, hurling another flurry of wind crescents at Wraith and Prophet. Darryll waved his arms through a sweeping series of complex gestures, making a low humming noise that built into a great cry. Of a sudden, the air elemental was gone.

And in its place, nearly thirty spirit warriors stood ready around the summoner.

Aidan reacted at the summon shift with mixed feelings: on one hand, the spirits were much easier to deal with than the elemental...on the other hand, they were almost 30 instead of one. However, they also were packed tight.

Even though he rushed after her Hayseed quickly gave him the slip, she'd listened to him! That was a weight off his mind and the timing couldn't have been better because now it looked like Daryll had an army. Good for him. Avery took in the scene in front of him and blinked a couple of times before breaking out in to a grin and pulling off his hat.

Wraith sees the crescent of wind coming, and knows he won't be able to dodge in time. Even with the Dream guiding his movements, the wind unerringly zeroes in on his body. There's a flash of light from Prophet, and when the wind impacts, it's somehow not as deadly as it seemed.

It's still wicked deadly, though. Seriously, the crescent of wind was as long as Wraith is tall. And he takes the full brunt of it.

A deep gash is carved on his chest, biting easily through the reinforced exosuit to gouge out his torso. His concentration broken, he enters freefall as he mentally staggers in pain. He manages to shift his body so he doesn't land on his head--nonetheless, he feels several rather important bones creak from the impact.

"Man, I thought I didn't hit my head, but I'm seeing double...quadruple...octuple...ah, crud," he says when he raises his head to view the spirit army. Arch-damn summoners.

His exosuit whirs and he grunts in exertion as he rolls back onto his hand and springs back; once on his feet, he continues to move further back before he begins to walk on the sky once more. "I'm gonna take a quick break while I keep Darryl's magic tied up, guys," he calls out before vanishing into thin air. Once hidden (hopefully) he takes a second to catch his breath and push back the pain. The adrenaline won't last too long, but it'll hopefully be enough.

Prophet blinked at Daryll's sudden army, but the golden light of the Dream didn't waver. This wouldn't be enough to avoid justice. The Dream would ward them.

With your every step, these grand adventures shall grow more distant and faint. And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way. On that day, I bid you remember this... That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there.

    Round 5

    It was, just...a slaughter.

Don't get me wrong, Darryll's spirit warriors were no weaklings. Any one of them was more than a match for a single normal SIDE agent. They weathered Aidan's disintegrating blasts with only one vanishing, although most were damaged, some of them badly. Avery's follow-up bomb blew away a few more and left most of the rest hurt to varying degrees. Then Hayseed came combat-rolling out with her new pistols in hand, her eyes wide with a terrible glee and a slasher's grin huge across her face as she lay down a full-auto firing spread of energies of all varieties, bolts of practically every color you could think of firing from her weapons fast as the eye could see as the infuriated SIDE agent screamed, "DARRRRRRYLLLLLLLL!" Already injured, over a dozen of the spirits burst into ectoplasm under her assault. It was immensely satisfying.

When the bombardment ended...Darryll stood unharmed. In that massive barrage, Hayseed hadn't launched a single bolt his way.

Once the chaff was cleared out a bit, though, she met his eyes, stared him down, raised her weapons, and put a blast of pure energy right into each of his knees.

"Bwahaha!" she cackled before ghosting around behind the house.

It was good to enjoy your job.

From the opposite side, Kate saw her chance, hurling a pair of portals, one on either side of Darryll. If he didn't move, they'd slice through under his ribs - a serious injury, but not a mortal one. If he tried to dodge to either side, though, they'd cut him in half. Darryll raised a shield of wind, but even the magical gale couldn't turn them aside, and he cried out as he was slashed badly, staggering and almost dropping to one knee.

In the aftermath of the heroes' assault, there were only ten spirit warriors left, all of them hurt, several badly. They wouldn't be able to withstand another assault like that.

Darryll didn't need them to. He just needed them to output as much damage as they possibly could right now. The spirits unleashed a barrage of energy blasts on every enemy they could still see, trying to overwhelm them through sheer weight of numbers.

Then they vanished, because they weren't going to be of any further use anyway, and Darryll whelmed his magic in preparation to engage personally.

A role playing game is three things. It is an interactive story, a game of chance, and a process in critical thinking.

The Spirit Warriors' counter-barrage met the warm light of the Dream... and nothing happened. As in, the energy blasts were turned aside or stopped cold. The sudden absence of Daryll cutting off the barrage left only Daryll facing down the Task Force, with the steady golden light of the Dream radiating from Prophet and coalescing around the Task Force. From the midst of that light, Prophet didn't say anything. His disappointed and resolute eyes told all that he felt needed to be said.

Avery grinned a little bit further than ear to ear as Caleb effortlessly deflected the Spirit Warriors' attacks, Daryll didn't stand a chance. With the path clear he rushed towards the summoner, ditching his explosives for his trusty mallet.

Between his own skills and Prophet's protection, Foxglove managed to avoid all of the blasts aimed at him...except one. Now, it wasn't anything strange - sheer numbers can overcome any defence - but, whether due to (un)luck or a mistake on his part, the one bolt that threatened to strike true was going to do so right in the face. He summoned a disintegrating bolt to cancel it out, but barely in time.

And then Darryll broke throught the power that kept part of his magic sealed. Aidan clicked his tongue in disappointment, but he knew it had only been a matter of time.

"You're almost out of tricks, Harrens. Just surrender." he whispered to his foe after closing in, delivering his trademark punch+roundhouse kick combo.

Then, he jumped back, tumbling through a window to take cover inside the house.
