If only Haley had used a fire or ice wand. That would've slowed the golem. Sadly, magic missile does jack.

Now I'm curious. Is OOTS Starmetal similar to DND starmetal? Because that would mean that Roy's sword would count as Adamantine for the purposes of overcoming DR.

Which would also make Haley's choice to use them against Sabine another sub-optimal choice since it doesn't bypass a demon's DR (I assumed that Roy was able to hurt Sabine because he was dealing a crudload of base damage even assuming he wasn't using Power Attack, as opposed to just punching through her DR like it wasn't there).

Oh well, it's not like Haley has a lot of ranks in Knowledge (The Planes).

If only one of those wands was a Rod of Construct Control. Any chance D&D has an analog to the 7th level Control Construct Pathfinder spell and that V just happens to have it prepared or otherwise available? If not, I counsel following Plan A right to Roy and Durkula (because Hel's Might Durkula vs. Flesh Golem Crystal would be awesome). Of course, if those steampunk techno-gnome cops want to show up ...

I don't think they are similar. At the very least, Starmetal in OOTS grants abilities that D&D Starmetal does nit.

I'm guessing that Haley was using adamantine because of it's bonus to damage and attack.

Psssst! Sometimes, characters take suboptimal actions in the comic for the express purpose of showing less D&D-familiar readers that a certain tactic is useless, to avoid constant comments like, "Haley is so dumb, why doesn't she use the wands she just bought on it?"

"Barely hurting her" = damage resistance not immunity.

Haley missing with 3 arrows because a golem ducked?

I think he was referring to the running gag in the strip (referenced in this comic, incidentally) where the Order always seems to have to run away from battles.

I assumed it was so we didn't wonder if they went and hit anything else. Presumably there is nothing stopping Crystal from dodging until Haley dies of old age, barring outside interference.

Well there goes a fortune of arrows down the drain. Also what wand was Haley using?

You know, Haley seems surprisingly calm about all of this. I mean, ignoring the whole "Revenant-Golem" thing, she's got almost no chance in combat right now.

It's not like she's alone. The Order are in the vicinity, she just has to find them. She's not so much "running away" as "running towards the melee fighters until she finds them". And they'll probably notice the commotion and start moving towards the location anyways.

Though they do look sort of acidic. That would be my first guess if the Giant hadn't said something.

Good point. I assumed they meant the arrows hit something in the water. It's definitely likely that the fact they were Adamantine arrows and she was saving them to use against Sabine is going to come up, given how she pointed it out.
