Surprised by Elena's harsh reaction, the two step aside instinctively, making way for her charge.

Elena smashes her mace into one of the creatures, and Ireena moves into the room and fires an arrow at the same enemy. It strikes out at Elena with two gore-stained meat cleavers. The other one rushes forward to engage Gallard.

Elena grunts as the cleaver slams into her armor, though it doesn't penetrate, instead leaving a large bruise. She growls and swings again, twice, looking for a critical strike on the ape-thing.

Jonnel moves to the left, past Gallard and positions himself so that he is able to see the creature's back. Following a tactic that has proven to be effective, the two warriors start to attack in sequence to distract and confuse the brutish creature.

Moving to S-29 and taking a total defense action.

Brom and Elena both swing at the nearly-dead creature and miss. Gallard and Jonnel attack the other one; Gallard hits it once. Ivyn swims into the room. Ireena unleashes another volley of arrows, of which only one hits, causing the creature Elena and Brom were fighting to topple. The surviving creature continues, perhaps mindlessly, to attack Gallard.

Elena growls slightly in triumph as the ape falls and nods to Brom, saying, "My thoughts exactly. Let's keep going."

Gallard assesses his wounds. "That tongue thing seems to have left me drained. Not enough to use a spell to heal yet, when we don't know what we're about to face, but conventional healing would be welcome." He wades onto the balcony, raised out of the water, and strides over to the curtain behind the Necromancer's throne.

Behind the curtain is an iron door. Gallard attempts to open it and, finding it locked, begins trying to smash it open.

As Gallard smashes down the door, aided by Jonnel, Gallard's sword begins to glow.

On the other side of the door, you see a great vat in the center of the chamber, filled with roiling pale mucus. From their alcoves on either side, bloated giants stand pulsing and heaving. Two walls of the chamber are lined with tome-stuffed shelves, and a stained desk is shoved into the southwest corner. Behind the vat, a familiar slender figure in pale leather armor and hood yells, "Come no closer! I cannot imagine minions of Strahd would need to break down my door. If you are not his servants, say what you come for, quickly. If you are, I'll kill you and raise you as my pets!" Her hands are upraised, seemingly ready to cast a spell, and as you contemplate attacking her you become aware of an imposed reluctance to do so.

She has Sanctuary active; anyone who wishes to attack her personally needs to make a Will save first, and if it fails you lose the action that attempted to attack her.

Map is updated; light green is the vat of mucus, the big Gs are the giants, N is the woman who seems to be the Necromancer.

Brom sees the glow of the sword and the undead giants flanking the woman. "If you are no friend of Strahd, then you keep a peculiar abode. The company you keep and the attack already sent toward us reveal your intent and nature sufficiently. Surrender now. If you thought yourself capable of besting us, you would not have offered parlay now after attacking us on sight before. Give yourself up." He strides forward while speaking. Once adjacent to the table,, light streams forth from his shield.

Elena nods as Brom raises his shield and steps forwards, saying, "We stand for the light. Stand down or face our fury."

Gallard stares at the Necromancer. "She's unsurprisingly evil," he announces. "The stuff in the vat is evil too. Surrender or die!" he shouts, striding forward with his glowing sword upraised. Jonnel hurries forward at his side.

Ivyn dashes up 10 ft and lobs a vial of holy water into the vat. For science.

The giants collapse to the floor and Gallard's sword stops glowing. The woman bares her teeth as she moves backwards and says, "Light it is," followed by the words of a quick spell. You briefly smell bat guano before you're surrounded with flame. The vial Ivyn threw sinks into the mucus, which surges out of the vat with the focus and direction of a hostile living creature, pouring onto the floor in front of you, and sends out a pulse of negative energy. "Agh!" gasps Ireena, looking suddenly close to dead. Gallard dives out of the way of the worst of the fiery blast and says, "We'd better scatter before she does that again!" Gallard still looks all right, but Jonnel looks scarcely better than Ireena.

Spellcraft might confirm that it was the spell you think it is, but really, I'm sure you all recognize fireball. Her Sanctuary is broken; each of you takes (7d6)[20] fire damage, Reflex DC 16 for half. Each of you also takes (6d6)[21] negative energy damage, Reflex DC 23 for half.

The glowing light of Brom's shield seems to shelter him from the worst of the onslaught, a lingering bit of divine favor? He holds up a hand, "Stop!"

A diamond ring on the Necromancer's finger flashes brightly as she shrugs off Brom's spell. "Other side of her, Jonnel. Disrupt," Gallard says urgently before he rushes forward and to the east, standing to the south of the Necromancer with his sword upraised, while Jonnel moves similarly to end up to her southwest. Ireena hesitates briefly before running to the west, standing over one of the fallen giants, and aiming her bow.

Both Gallard and Jonnel ready actions to attack the Necromancer if she moves away from them or starts casting a spell. Ireena does as well. The three of them have moved; Ivyn and Elena are still up.

Elena raises her shield, attempting to block the worst of the fire and the negative energy. However, she takes the full brunt of the blast and falls to the ground, form not breathing or moving.
