Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: AztecThe Spaniard war with your people is escalating. Their strange beasts and smoke-slings have been held back for now but we fear in time they will wear down your soldiers. Once the Aztec fall, they will naturally turn towards us. As the furthest from their settlements the Maya have been focusing on our own defense but have approached the Incas with a suggestion of alliance to drive the intruders from our lands.
A three-part alliance would present a unified front and if you would be interested in such a thing let our envoy know. It would take several years to get Mayan troops in position to help, and open declaration of hostility would wait until they are in place. Conquest of the Spanish would not be the goal, merely protection of our lands, a unified force to contain the threat from overseas...
In addition, we are prepared to set up a trade of exotic spices for some of the fine fur your folk produce. Hopefully this is agreeable to your people.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayansAs we told Montezuma when he asked for aid, our lands lie dangerously close to Spanish colonies, and our militia is small - we would fall far more quickly and easily than the Aztecs, if the foreigners turn their armies towards us. Someday, we hope to muster the strength to stand on our own, but until then we must be wary of doing anything that might antagonize the Spanish queen.
That said, we would like to help our kindred in this land. We can offer clandestine aid, such as information on Isabella's troop movements, and if our combined military might seems able to defend Incan lands we would certainly consider alliance.Avatar by GryffonDurime. Thanks!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayansWhile the Aztec people love nothing more than glorious war and sacrifice, we will take all the help we can get - obsidian swords are less than optimal against Spanish steel, and their lust for silver is almost a dark reflection of our devotion to our gods. Indeed, the Aztec lands actually contain little of interest to them beyond our holy mountain - were they to somehow take control of it, I have no doubt they'd continue taking advantage of the Incans' timidity and turn northwest to your peninsula.
While we're doing well dealing with their conquistadores piecemeal, we'll happily accept whatever aid you're able to give, as we have no doubt they are bringing more of their horrible kind over the sea as we speak.Spoiler

It looked like I would have enough time to not be able to play until Monday, but just in case/for every other American's sake, pausing the timer for Thanksgiving weekend might be a good idea.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: Bonus spectator update
If only getting more points for going to China was an option.
Ah well scouting's nice too.
We start moving to the third acceptable colony position.
Our ships wait. In case they are needed.
And our scouts move out to explore the middle part of the continent.
Our glorious tech tree.
Our capital.
Roanoke island.
And Jamestown.
Our policies.
Demographics. Best in approval, worst in nothing.
The English intelligence reports on our foes.
So it's been fifty turns so it's plan time. I think really all I need to do is head to frigates, and take some points from the Mayans, and then coast on the massive lead I got from discovering China with two great admirals.
So what will probably happen is being super atheist will bite in the ass at some point.
Who knows!?

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: AztecThe Inca unfortunately are hesitant to present a military opposition to the Spanish and have mentioned they have a preexisting scouting agreement with your people which they would share. We have sent two units of our finest bowmen towards your lands, alas the trip is long and brigands have stopped our first unit shortly outside of our borders. We estimate about ten council meetings before they are close enough to be a threat to the Spanish invaders. Raiders in our home territory have kept us from sending the full complement of units we intended, but our advance scouts are keeping an eye on your situation and will share any information they acquire.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: NetherlandsGreetings outsiders from across the Great Water. The Maya see your new settlement in our northern jungles and wish to welcome you to our lands. Let it be known that the sacred mountain to the south of your settlement is off limits to your people. You are welcome where you have landed as long as you maintain peace and respect Mayan borders.
Some of your brethren from "Spain" have already brought war to this continent. Know that our militia watches you closely and should you attempt aggression we will gladly raze your city to the ground. We hope for peaceful and profitable relations, but we will not abide overzealous settlement or conquest.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayaGreetings, inhabitants of this strange land. We come in peace, with no desire to harm you or your holy mountain, nor expand our presence on your island. We merely wish to harvest the cotton found here.
However, we do not take threats lightly. We wish for peaceful relations with the Maya nation as well, but we will not allow our people to come to harm. We are here to stay. Should you attempt to "raze our city to the ground", our response will be swift and disproportionate. Many thanks to Assassin 89 for this avatar!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: NetherlandsWe are glad you understand. We have seen the boats of your people and other overseas tribes but have not had any neighbors until now. The Spanish have violated the trust of our brethren in the Aztec lands and we are wary, we apologize for the threats but feel them a necessary prevention against those who would seize things by force.
Our people hope to send a trade caravan your way with samples of our finest wares, we will have military escorts to protect the traders from the barbarian hordes and a normal guard around our holy mountain but we have no desire to bring war to your settlement. Should you prove better neighbors than our prior visitors from across the sea we would be glad for a long and prosperous relationship with your people.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: IncaThe Aztec leaders have been unresponsive as of late. Our military aid to them has nearly arrived but without hearing from the allies in their tribe we are unsure if committing to their defense is wise in the face of the Spanish military power. With no allies we will likely withdraw our troops, but they are in a good position to help soon. Let us know if you are still committed to neutrality.
Spoiler: AztecOOC: You still around? You've been skipped a lot and my military aid is getting close to the conflict. It's not worth it to try and help an AI, they're just too bad at warfare. I'll withdraw my troops if you're out of the game but if you plan on staying I'll still help.

St.George continues to grow. Citizens of the British empire doing their worldly duty in lifting the Iroquois up by their boot straps.
Our scout waits to pillage more of the Savages camps.
Our Crossbows move to attack.
Our worker continues making farms, turning the untamed wild lands into food for the British empire.
As our other units move to take over Iroquois longhouses.

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: MayaOur engineers have recently devised a new form of mechanical bow. The day when we can defy the Spanish and their devil-weapons has not yet come, but it seems... within sight, at least, if not exactly close. A pity the Aztecs have gone silent; they have a reputation as fierce warriors, and we'd hoped that they would be able to curb Spanish aggression.
What forces do you have on hand? If you decide not to commit them to aiding the Aztecs, would you be willing to consider keeping them garrisoned in this region rather than your homeland, in case the Spanish turn their sights on our cities next?Avatar by GryffonDurime. Thanks!

Re: Civ5 GMR 12: Imperialism, ho!
Spoiler: IncaWe have three squads of our finest highland bowmen. They use a composite material which admittedly lacks the power of the Spanish smoke-slings but have superior range. By studying the guards around the new colony near our lands we have found an ingenious new bow, but our men have yet to recreate it. We may wish to withdraw our bowmen to give them these "crossbows" once the design is perfected, otherwise we have no problems staying in the nearby lands. Our trade caravans pass through the barbarian-filled wilderness and we can excuse our troops' presence for the protection of our civilians.
Also, do you have any changes in your thoughts regarding a Mayan settlement in the river valley southwest of your lands? It remains unclaimed and we'd rather one of our two tribes take it than let the Spanish gain the resources.

Portugal. Nation of faith and gods, impresses the Cherokee people. But they remain loyal.

As our crossbows swarm!
Pretty sure in the base game, Kris swordsmen don't get this?

Apparently, Lakota thinks the culture of the church, is better then the culture of atheism.
Our allies desires a trade route to be sent to them. We will certainly consider it.
As we produce yet another Great merchant to be sent to the new world to turn a profit.
As will our great admiral.
Our scout troop heals up.
Our crossbows swarm the savages.
As our melee and cavalry find other targets.
Our other units, wait around.
Our tech tree, ladies and gentlemen.
Our capital.
The first colony.
Jamestown.
And our newest colony.

Lakota allies with Spain.
That makes them declare war on the Aztecs, who we are currently trying to kick/get in contact with.
...Sure. Let's let super atheist England work on that....
Our admiral moves towards a city state.
I may have error-ed.
Our scouting band looks for lootables.
The crossbows mostly hunt for prey.
And Grand River is captured.
Burn, burn, burn the city for treasure!
Other units move about. Looking for more of Hiawatha's cities.
Among other victims.
And some other units have other plans.
