Is V taking care of all the animals?
I was rereading the later strips and in this comic
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0950.html
and I noticed that in the background that Mr. Scruffy and Bloodfeast the Extreme-innator are sleeping together on a bed of hey, which implies this is their home.....or that Belkar and V are sharing a room which seems less likely considering
THE EVENT
ANd in a later comic
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0950.html
Mr. Scruffy's bowl is in V's room, which again implies this is where Mr. Scruffy is. Is V just taking care of all the animals? If so why? Blackwing and Scruffy don't seem to like each other, though Blackwing does love Bloodfeast. What do you guys think?
Also the fact that V says "I summoned you here" implies this isn't Belkar's Room

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
Pretty sure OP meant the second link to go to Strip #960. It comes after Strip #950, contains Mr. Scruffy's bowl in V's room and V's reference to "summoning" Belkar, and its link is differentiated from the link to Strip #950 merely by one nearby and easily mis-hit key.
As for the actual question posed by OP, V's probably just grown accustomed to having the animals around. She, not without mishap, looked after Mr. Scruffy while Belkar was locked up in Bloodstone, after all. As for Bloodfeast, it was Blackwing that rescued him, and probably insisted that the dinosaur be allowed to stay. V might be placating him on that point.
That or it's a cheap way to garner some sympathy. Show a character not actively abusing small animals and some of the cuteness is bound to rub off.Last edited by zimmerwald1915; 2015-06-10 at 04:38 AM.

Let's go from the last to the first.
"I summoned you here" only means Belkar was somewhere else and then V called him to talk about the dagger. It could imply that's not Belkar's room, or could not.
Which brings us to the point. They are in a pirate ship. I find it difficult to imagine they have so many spare roons that each one of them was entitled his/her own room. It's perfectly possible, and likely, that they are sharing rooms, and that Belkar would prefer to share the same space with V instead of sharing, for example, the same room with Roy and Durkula. Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea
Our powers pale compared with the great heroes
Our battles don’t hit theheadlines or shake the earth
But they are few, can’t be everywhere, and we, many
So, when the world or universe needs saving, they come
But when people needs saving, we are the ones to appear
We're underdogs, but we rise up to the challenge to be heroes.

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
I know it was a long time ago and certain things sure has changed but here is the point - I don't think V wants to share room with Belkar.
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0225.html
Panel 5.
Three rooms. I room onyl with miss Starshine.
And since Haley is sleeping in another room as we see it in comic number 959 maybe he/she just needs some peaceful place where he/she can prepare for the battles ahead?
My bet is that V just chose a room with the animals to not be disturbed during his/her preperations or resreach. Besides... I dont think floor plan of the Mechane is that important. xD

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
It strikes me as unlikely that the Mechane has so many spare rooms that each member of the Order is able to have a room to themselves. However as V does not require a bed to trance (nor indeed, would he benefit from it at all since he floats while doing so), its possible that he has simple taken up full residence in the study to prepare for the upcoming battle.

V is TCB. You know, taking care of business.

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
They are sharing a room--following their divorce, V sought comfort in Belkar's strong, manly arms. This development occurred entirely off panel.

I don't see why you can't summon someone to their own temporary room.

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
Wait....has V ever used a bed before, we've seen her trancing without a bed so...whose bed is that in the room?

Mr. Scruffy's. All beds everywhere are owned by cats, they just let us borrow them on occasion.

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
The only free space without a bed may be a broom closet.
Since the scoundrels at my university stuck me on a cot in a tiny space used for storing giant stacks of lightbulbs, I can speak from experience when I say that, even ignoring the bed, living in a small janitorial space is not restful or remotely convenient.Spoiler
So the song runs on, with shift and change,
Through the years that have no name,
And the late notes soar to a higher range,
But the theme is still the same.
Man's battle-cry and the guns' reply
Blend in with the old, old rhyme
That was traced in the score of the strata marks
While millenniums winked like campfire sparks
Down the winds of unguessed time. -- 4th Stanza, The Bad Lands, Badger Clark

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
There's a lot of emotional stress in V's life right now. I suppose they have decided to take comfort where it can be found--which in this case, is with an emotionally stunted rage-driven Halfling.
(One has to really read between the lines to see the truth of their relationship)

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
Wow! It even has that "cheap" and "cynical" vibe going on. I am feeling the Zimmerwald/V moment here, but personally I don't think taking care of animals is cheap, especially as V was formerly incapable of even acknowledging his familiar's existence, and the prospect of V taking care of anything, would have been out of character prior to recent events.

Re: Is V taking care of all the animals?
The pets in the background are a good example of Rich's attention to detail and the subtle hints and nods he's giving about both his intentions and the fact that the characters operate in a rich and varied world.
It's why he said some time ago in a thread dedicated to his thumb and someone's impatience at strip progress, he'll never let anyone else assist in the drawing. He's too particular about these little details and does the thinking as he draws. The laws of physics are not crying in a corner, they are bawling in the forums.
