Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
<snuffle> is actually being a bit creepy, here.
I can see Annie going "Oh" in response to the revelations the students are making, and setting her sights even more firmly than ever on spiking the Court's guns...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
So Bugsy really is named after Bugsy Malone? Or is there another Bugsy did I am unaware of? I am astonished and delighted.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
It could be after Bugsy, but I think Bugsy Malone's more likely. It just feels more Gunnerkriggy somehow.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
If you go by the number of awards, he would probably be more likely to have "Bugsy" than "Bugsy Malone." Both had good reviews so he might have had either one, but I think would think someone would be more likely to buy "Bugsy Malone" (G rated) to watch with their kids, not by themselves. If the DVDs are just for his use, he would be more likely to have "Bugsy" (R rated), but if they are intended to be shown to the kids at school, then "Bugsy Malone" would be far more likely. (I can't imagine having that many DVDs just for school use, though.)
I don't think anyone should be getting excited about the name choice. It was just a random thing. She could have just as easily been named "Nemo."Last edited by eschmenk; 2016-05-25 at 10:36 AM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
It's interesting that she cared so much about having a name she didn't care what it was, or any of the rest of the stuff he was saying (he seemed to be telling her she was in a bad position).
The end of what Son? The story? There is no end. There's just the point where the storytellers stop talking.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
She speaks! Now maybe we're going to get the Forest side of the equation.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
Yeah, oddly, though I can understand why citizens of the Court would want to convert to the Forest, I'm not seeing very well why inhabitants of the latter would want to cross over to the former.
Particularly fairies with their irrationality persisting as humans and even as they grow older.
(Also I have, myself this irrational, likely destructive desire to just pop in a class full of fairies and give them all names so that's taken care of, and come on, they're humans now, having a name is a basic necessity. "Hi, folks, okay, you're Mel now, and you are Mary-Jo, and you are Beatrice, yes, you in the back, and you...")
What I do get is the excitement over a name, even a (seemingly) meaningless or ridiculous one. They had no real name before, and this is the kind of world where names have basic powers (though hell if I know which). For us, humans, attributing a name is done effortlessly, liberally, very easily (heck, we name inanimate objects for the hell of it), but for that kind of being, it's likely much more important and impressive, much like Tolkien's elves are described to do magic without much of a thought, or fish swim naturally.Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession gamesOriginally Posted by Dwarf Fortress 0.40.01 bugs

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
I can understand why small animals would want to become human. It's as the bunny (through <Snuffle>) said, when you are an animal you are only valued by your physical ability but humans can be valued for their intelligence. If a clever animal is of a prey species, or any smaller species really, I can see why they would be willing to put up with all the Court's crap in exchange for being human.
Fairies less sure unless getting name is really that important as well as being extremely difficult to come by in the forest.Last edited by Lizard Lord; 2016-06-01 at 12:51 AM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
OK. So. Being human is such a step up from being Forest creatures or fairies, they don't mind the work. Especially since they play in the Ether while their bodies slave away.
It's all a matter of perspective, I guess.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
It's that guy! And he's gotten weirdly hot!
I assume Eglamore is warning Parley not to grab Smithy with all her strength, because her strength has increased so much it might be dangerous.
I also assume she and Smitface will disappear for several hours and return showered, much more relaxed, and smelling like each other. :)

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
I am going to say that it's because of a really silly reason: he's warning her that if she immediately starts flirting with him, she'll find out that he fell in love with and married a social recluse future-doctor and that they'll move away to some hospital until a dozen or so years in the future she'll find out that Smitty died and was replaced by an almost-identical son.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
Probably serves as juxtaposition of what Smitty has been going through in comparison to Parly and Egalmore.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
Oh, I see. He wasn't about to grab <snuffle>, he was giving her a pat on the head. That guy.
Parley, a word of advice: Pass on eating the hooves. They're good for making glue, but not for munching.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
Now that Parley is a lot stronger, perhaps the group is well prepared enough to deal with a certain sword-wielding spirit?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 6: Fire Away
I preferred old Parley. Does a swordswoman really need these heavy muscles? Look at riverghost. She's scary as heck and has noodle arms.
Edit to add: giving Parley a second look, she's not a musclewoman. I guess her talk about eating whole cows threw me off. I do miss her old hairdo, though.Last edited by guttering flame; 2016-06-13 at 03:49 AM.
