Well, it looks like he's actually dying. I guess blood takes a while to seep out through a person's clothes. This is not good. Whoever it was that said Smitty would consider saving Parley to be lucky, pat yourself on the back. Then again, it would be even luckier if nobody was stabbed but I guess his power has limits.

Partially because that gives a nice parallel if Smitty is reincarnated as a forest elf, and would have bigger reaching concequences.

Another possibility, since Kat already surprised Annie with unexpected powers, would be for Annie to surprise us with an unexpected power. Annie burns the knife in a flame of healing, destroying the knife and returning Smitty to life.

It's either that, or we get a legitimate character death

All I can say is that his chattiness and relative longevity are unusual for some who got stabbed in, say, the heart. To me it reads like he's going to make it.

Annie's job was to ferry the pair Beyond. That is her her first priority. Smitty has other people who can help.

Yes, it's kind of troubling to turn away from a very stabbed Smitty, but this (presumably) was their mission after all.

If I remember correctly Jeanne's imprisonment was part of the barrier separating the Court from the Forest (even Coyote seemed stumped by it, which is saying something). With the barrier disabled, and the Court medium stabbed in the heart, this may lead to interesting diplomatic developments.

I was hoping Jeanne would explain why she's been slow to kill Annie when she usually snuffs anyone entering the chasm on sight. But if they've both reached the point where their memories are gone, that's not an option. Neither is getting their last words. I guess the important thing is to get them gone before something goes wrong. But this is a disappointment.

If it weren't for Smitty, this would be very satisfying. Jeanne and Mr. Green Elf have been freed from the terrible thing done to them and sent off together, whatever happens next, whether eternity or damnation (Jeanne killed a LOT of beings in her rage) or oblivion is beyond Annie and us, and the danger is finally over.

But we DO have Smitty, and that we're all in terror of Annie turning around and Andrew's ghost being there saying "I guess I've got to go, too" while George and Kat are consumed with grief over his body... is really distracting.

And I didn't think Annie would get a final record. Once the memories go, there's not much for them to speak of...
